2 New world

(The sun parses through the windows and illuminates the room. The room is quiet. Jack is still in bed.)

My eyes open. It's daytime. I take a deep breath and pull my legs from underneath my blanket and place them on the floor. It's been a decade since the war. The city that I live in has been abandoned. Anyone that has ever lived here has either left or died in the war.

I get off my bed and go to my backpack. I open it and reach in to grab my water bottle. There is only a little left. I stare at it contemplating if I should drink all now or save a bit for later. A human-like me can never be too sure when it will be saved to find drinkable water.

"Fuck it" I decided to drink it all.

"That wasn't a good idea," a voice in my head said. I look up and imagine him to be set on the bed giving me a judge full stare.

"I will find more" I replied him.

"Suit yourself. You know I am right." He said to me before he disappeared.

I put the bottle back into my backpack and then got up. I then walk to the nightstand of the bed I slept in. There was a photo frame on it. Inside is a picture of a man, a woman, and a boy. A happy family for short, at least they use to be. I take the photo and put it back into my bag.

I left the hotel that I spent the night in with all my belongings in my bag. Knowing that I won't be coming back there at least for a few months or so. I'm leaving too another home-like place.

On my way, through the newly grown forest that now stands in the city, I look around for anything to eat. Barriers and some other edible fruits that I found hanging from the trees. While walking through the forest I found myself arriving at a river. Obviously, where there is a forest there should be a good water source.

"Wow is that really your logic?"

"What do you want Kevin?" I asked the imaginary friend in my head that was now standing next to me. He looks exactly like me. I guess I was just lazy to give him a different appearance to mine.

"You know that we are the same person right. I don't want what you don't want and I want what you want. Basically, we're not that different you and I." he says to me

I already made my way to the water and started to fill up my cup.

"I think your lying. I remember a time that you wanted something different from what I wanted and that you think differently from what I think. I am not really sure that you are imaginary." I then packed my bottle full of water into my backpack. Then I start to clean myself in the water. Stripping down into my undies.

"Believe what you want to believe," Kevin says as he starts throwing stones into the river hoping that they will bounce on the water.

After taking a nice bath I then stripped out of my wet underwear and then took some laundry detergent from my beg and stared clean them. My shirt, my pants, everything I just had on. I put on a second pair of underwear while I was doing that.

Immersed in the action of getting my stuff clean I was oblivious to my surroundings.

"Jack stop!" I then paused and looked towards Kevin slightly irritated.

"Pack up your stuff now," he said in a whisper-like voice. I looked at him and then gave him a mucking smile of disbelief. How could he hear something that I didn't. However, I did then continue with what I was doing in a more quiet manner so that I could hear better.

"What are you doing?" he whispers yells at me. I ignore him and continue to do what I was doing.

"Klink" the sound of a twig breaking came from the forest to my left. That wasn't made up that was real.

Realizing my backpack is behind me at some distance and that I only have my underwear on at the moment. I guessed that it was a wolf that was approaching. I might be able to defend myself from one wolf except that wolves always travel in packs and that these wolves are probably werewolves. Which means that they will surely win against me.

In a split second, I took a big breath and sprites towards my bag leaving everything I was busy with and began to run like hell.

I heard the leaves rattle behind me and a few growls shooting out of the unknown force behind me as I don't look back when I run away from something that was gaining on me with every second.
