NEW BEGINNING

"I'm going to admit, this loss is huge, Doctor Montalvo. You were one of our best surgeons here. I'm really saddened by this."

Yue was inside the hospital director's office. Before the incident with Damian happened, she took two weeks off to spend time with him. Who knew she was going to come back just a few days after with her letter of resignation? Even she did not expect this outcome.

Yue worked as an orthopedic surgeon at the Royal Berks Hospital in London. She worked there for four years right after graduating from medical school.

"I'm sorry, Director Duvére. It was really my honor to work here." She smiled but it did not reach her eyes. It was hard for her to make the decision to leave. But she wanted a fresh start. And she did not want to do it in London.

She stood up and shook Director Duvére's hand.

"We'll always welcome you back, whenever you decide to come back, Doctor Montalvo."

"Thank you." She said as she bid him farewell and left that place.

Her brother, Ren, was quick to his words. He did take care of everything for her. Cancellation of the wedding, venues, reservations, everything. He even had Alex burn all of the invitations made for the wedding. She did not even have to lift a finger. Her only request to her brother was not to destroy the two betrayer's public image.

Damian and Veronica were both famous figures in the entertainment industry. She was not that ruthless to even tarnish their reputation. She could not bring herself to do it, let alone Ren. So, she pleaded to him to spare them.

"They dared to betray you and you show them mercy? No, I won't let them off!" Ren indignantly refused her pleas.

"Ge, please! Damian worked hard to be where he is. He finally got the role for the movie he really wanted to audition for. Please, Ge. For me? Please?" She pleaded again.

Even if Damian turned out to be a cheating bastard, he was honest with his work as an actor. She admired that part of him.

"What, you still love that bastard?" Ren was mad.

"No, Ge. I don't want to destroy people's lives. I can't bear the guilt." She honestly said.

"So, it's okay for them to destroy yours, is that it?"

Yue shook her head. "It's already enough for me to end everything and forget everything. I just want a new beginning."

Ren finally relented after another hour of her pleading to him. But he made sure that news of their cancelled engagement was revealed to the public. Yue might not be as famous as Damian, but she did freelance modeling back when she was young so she was quite known. She is also known in the medical field so she was not a total nobody. Quite a lot of people in the elite society knew who she was.

So, when an article showed up with details of the cancellation of their engagement, it was a huge uproar. A lot of people knew of Damian's engagement. And when it suddenly got cancelled five months before the actual date, many questioned the reason as to why it was cancelled. Ren still wanted to reveal the truth publicly. But he agreed to Yue's pleas. Reluctantly. Ren revealed a small statement online saying that the couple decided to break it off because their relationship did not work out.

Damian did not say anything. He kept his silence, seemingly confirming the statement from Yue's side. But the truth was, Ren came to him a few days after Yue broke it off with him.

"You will not say anything. You will never show your face ever again to Yue. You will not involve yourself to our affairs."

"Ren—"

"Otherwise, I will make sure to erase you in this earth! You know I can, Damian. And I am not afraid to dirty my hands if I have to." Ren did not even allow him to speak. He came and left those words to him without batting an eyelid.

Damian knew that was the end. He knew there was no way for him and Yue to reconcile. It was really over.

Veronica also got a visit from Ren and was 'threatened' in a similar way. She did not even utter a single word but just nodded. She knew she had wronged Yue. And she was also afraid of the repercussions if she ever retaliated. The Montalvos are influential and powerful in their country. What can she do? She can only shut her mouth.

Many doubted the truth of the breakup. Yue did not care. She did not want to be involved with Damian or Veronica any more.

She threw away anything that linked her to him: photos, gifts, clothes, accessories, everything that she saw. Damian tried to talk to her, of course. But was not able to. Ren made sure of that. But she could not avoid him forever. For one, he was an actor. His face was everywhere. Television, magazines, and even posters. She was sick of it! It only made her feel worse.

She was cooped up in her flat, watching Asian comedy shows. She refused to see anybody except Ren. Her doting brother could not help but worry for his brokenhearted sister. So, he sent their household butler, Namu, to take care of Yue at her own flat. At first, she refused. But Ren adamantly insisted, even threatening her to ruin Damian and Veronica completely if she refused. She could only agree. Ren bought the flat next to hers so Namu had a place to stay. Namu was an exemplary butler so she had no complaints.

"My Lady, I've prepared some black tea with your favorite tea cakes." Namu was pushing a small food cart.

She smiled weakly at the middle-aged man. "Thank you, Namu." She was still feeling somber, a complete contrast to her furious self back when she confronted Damian at the hotel. That persona was a stranger to her. It seemed that Damian's betrayal awoken a different side to her to which she had not known existed. But she had no plans of showing that persona ever again. Even she herself was scared when she remembered what she had said and did at that time.

Yue was sitting on one side of the couch. She was absentmindedly watching an Asian comedy show again. Namu sighed as he watched the once cheerful girl. It pained his heart to see the Young Lady at this state. He cursed at the man who was the cause of this. He totally supported his Master Ren's desire to destroy the two people who had hurt the Young Lady.

Yue was oblivious to the butler's thoughts. Her eyes were staring at the seventy-inch television in front of her but her mind was elsewhere.

This place… I don't want to be here anymore…

She winced at the familiar ache inside her chest. She was tired of crying. Tired of feeling the pain.

"Namu."

"My Lady?" Namu quickly walked to her side, ready to take any orders from her.

"Book me a flight to China."
