11 Breakfast on the Floor

Nearly every bone in my body seemed to ache as I woke to the light streaming through the high windows. I tuned my ears to catch any clues as to what might be taking place. I slowly sat up was sharply reminded of the chain around my waist. I looked down to see that my wrists had already brused a deep purple. My stomach reminded me that I had not eaten since last morning. "I don't think they plan to starve me, so food is likely coming", I thought to myself.

Sure enough the outer door clanked open as a guard started unlocking the inner door. He cautiously slid a tray of morning meal towards me and hastened out. Considering I had given him quite a struggle to hold me still yesterday, it would be reasonable for him to be extra wary of me. I bared my teeth as I crept towards the tray. I sprung a fake lunge at him, causing him to quickly shut and locked both doors.

I knelt on the floor and carefully ate the food. I was ready for any surprises, including food poisoning. Nothing happened the rest of the morning and into the afternoon. I laid on my bed and tried to rest my throbbing body. Thankfully no bones were broken from the whole ordeal of yesterday. My bones had become quite durable resulting from constant exercise and rough terrain. I hoped to heal quickly so that I may train to become stronger. Stronger than what lied outside the locked doors.
