21 What A Witch!

The demon who found the two unnatural creatures yelled. And other soldiers, numbering a score, followed him into the oasis one after another. The Crow spoke no more, yet her sinister yellow eyes almost certainly spelt doom for Kai, as well as anyone who dared to venture into her little piece of heaven.

"So, if we team up, we can certainly-"

Kai barely had a chance to start his rambling as he intended to, when one of the lower-ranked demons started acting strangely and attacked another demon soldier all of a sudden. The one controlled by the Crow carried a spear, instantly running through one of his former comrades.

"Holy shit, are we a team now?" Kai asked, shocked to see how sure of herself the Skinwalker was. Kai was always utterly puzzled to see the lack of hesitance in the actions of this world's dwellers. Where he came from, you always had to second-guess yourself and be careful around others. Perhaps, he too, had to change.

The demons were distraught and tried to restrain their crazed comrade. Even after killing one of their own, their camaraderie was still strong. While they were preoccupied with the demon under control, the Crow moved swiftly and elegantly, similar to a wind spirit, to respond to Kai's question with a strong kick, planting him into the ground like a sapling sprouting a bone tree.

"Stop!" one of the demons yelled. The Crow's amber eyes almost pierced into the souls of the demons, yet she still stopped. After all, she had already intimidated Kai enough for the moment, she would deal with the others quickly and then decimate him.

Kai was on the ground, trying to get up while Arthur was still asleep. It was unknown whether this was due to being drained by the spell or if he was just REALLY tired. Kai somewhat hoped it'd be the latter.

"You have already caused the death of one of the soldiers serving under Lady Naamah. As one of the forest's witches, you are given exceptional treatment, but continue your transgressions, and…"

The demon could not speak any further. He had felt that the Crow could kill him any second now. The danger was nigh-tangible in the air. Each of the words he uttered weighed heavily in his mouth, he felt the death was creeping closer.

"…you will be taken prisoner as per her orders! There I said it!" the demon yelled out his ultimatum as his heart raced. His life wasn't that important, yet if the forest witch killed enough of them, it was true she'd be the one at a disadvantage.

"Now, hand over the skeleton, or else!"

No sound was heard from the Crow. Yet the restrained lower-ranked demon spoke with a distorted tone and a yellow tint in his eyes, "Anyone who remains here, will die."

The demon who spoke before took out his sword from his belt and took a stance all the while he eyed the skeleton who could barely free himself from the earth. If they could escape with their lives while stealing the skeleton, it would be superb.

What broke the silence was the frustrated voice of Kai, "How dare you kick me like that?! I'll rate this place 0 out of 5, absolutely awful service!"

The Crow's golden eyes shot daggers at Kai, which promptly shut him up.

"Right, I'll just wait here, then," Kai mumbled as he walked towards Arthur again. If these soldiers could occupy this dangerous creature for a few moments, it could be enough. After experiencing her strength first-hand again, he was far too scared to go head-to-head with her. Even with Light of Death, his strength just wasn't enough.

"Retreat, you wretched-" the demon who spoke to the Crow had suddenly stopped talking as he could move no more. His paralysis was only for a second, yet it was enough that in this second the Crow closed the distance and slashed his throat with what seemed to be the claws of a crow. The claws were sharper than their swords, the cut was almost surgical.

"Attack!" a few other demons yelled, charging against the Crow. Perhaps none of them was a match against a forest witch one-on-one, but perhaps they would have a chance if they ganged up on her.

Anyone who got too close to the Crow would either lose their concentration, their spirit would weaken, or they would lose control of their body. After losing six more men, one of the demons managed to thrust his spear into the heart of the crow. Blood spurted and washed the ground.

The only reason this had happened was that the Crow got distracted seeing Kai trying to sneak off with the kid. She clicked her tongue and cursed at him inwardly. Even if she had to hunt him afterwards, she would.

The one who speared the Crow was quickly dispatched by her yet the demons threw themselves at her in a manner similar to her mind control ability. They were crazed enough to throw their lives away just to please their master. She was somewhat intrigued.

Another demon, completely throwing its life away, died to be able to give the others an opening. She wasn't easy to kill, but it didn't mean she wasn't damaged.

Another demon, seeing this opportunity thrust his sword to sever her head, the only rumoured way to kill a witch. However, the Crow barely seemed bothered and was getting ready to counter the attack as if nothing had happened.

CLANK

The sword clashed against another. The one who blocked was none other than one of his fallen comrades with a blank but hungry look on its face. It was raised from the dead as a weak zombie. The impact from his strike was already enough to make it drop the sword and slice off one of its hands.

The next moment, the black patch which had receded when the skeleton was kicked, returned with great force. The zombie with one hand went feral and lunged at his former comrade to take a bite.

With a glance, the demon saw his fallen comrades had all gotten up one after another, and they could no longer overpower the Crow with their numbers. It was already not going to be easy to defeat the witch, yet it had now become impossible. They had to run and alert their main force.

"Go, my shitty creations!" Kai yelled from behind.

Kai didn't know whether the witch was actually going to help or really kill them, but the demons right now looked like bigger assholes than she was. He added with fervour, "Eat their demonic asses and save that bitch!"
