2 The modern world

As I examined the body I now inhabit, I realized it belongs to Mia Griffin, just like mine.

She led a mundane life as a student.

In this world, technology reigns supreme. Everything is advanced and shiny, from the machines that cool rooms to the towering structures known as buildings. They have water sources, rivers, bridges, and more. It's a world of convenience, where war is a distant memory and cultural and agricultural events take center stage. You can even make history as a YouTuber or influencer. Medical advancements are remarkable, with cures for almost all ailments and cosmetics that can transform faces. It's a revolutionized place, aptly named the Modern world.

In front of me sat Mia's computer, containing her life diary. It was a treasure trove of details, filling up half of its drive with her life story. It struck me that the electric shock I experienced might have come from this computer. Amazingly, the first thing I needed information was bestowed upon me through this brilliant machine. Thanks to her diary and my clumsiness in smashing her mouse, I found myself sighing at my own foolishness.

"Wake up, Mia! Do you think you're still dreaming?" I berated myself. "Geez, okay, I'll do it myself then. Argh, can't you stop acting like a lunatic?"

"Argh, how am I going to deal with you when you suddenly go off the rails?" Sheila loudly said.

"You've always treasured that thing since you were a child. Remember how thrilled you were when you bought it? You were even afraid to scratch it, which is why you didn't use it for a whole week! You even got a premium mouse pad and wore a glove for the first use!" Mia's friend nagged, channeling Mia's memories.

"Just go to the cafeteria and fetch me a sandwich and a cold coffee, alright?" Sheila decided to send her on a food run. she was famished and needed to wrap up this task quickly. Rest was also on my agenda.

"Uhm, but..." Mia began, attempting to get acquainted with Mia's thoughts. Her name is Shiela, she was the original body owner best friends.

"No 'buts.' Just get me the sandwich and coffee. Now, go!" Sheila commanded, stretching my arms and yawning from exhaustion and lack of sleep.

Mia went outside and was stunned by the bright light "Ah thats too bright"Mia said while holding shielding her face with her hands "Mia what are you doing get out now!" Sheila shouted

"I'm clueless about where I am or what all this is. I feel like I've stumbled into some strange organization or something," I pondered aloud, lost in this unfamiliar situation. What was I supposed to do here?

My memories and those of the original body owner hadn't fully merged or been sorted, leaving me in a state of confusion.

As I walked through the unfamiliar surroundings—vast structures resembling houses—my mind started to clear. It seemed that sorting things out was helping me regain my bearings.

"Oh, now I know where Shiela was talking about—the cafeteria. Let's head there first. I'm hungry too," I decided, eager to satisfy my growling stomach and learn more about this intriguing world.

Wow, so this is the cafeteria—a food stall on steroids compared to my world. It's like a daily banquet! I'd better hurry and delve into this world to adapt and learn more.

Though I'm still unfamiliar with my surroundings, it feels as if I've been released from a long captivity. So many things remain undiscovered from my old world.

"I'll save the information search for later when I'm back with Shiela," I resolved as I joined the line to grab some food and coffee from the vending machine.

"Shiela, here's your coffee and sandwich. Alright, let's get started," I said with excitement, eager to immerse myself in this new world and expand my knowledge.

"You're acting really strange today, Mia. Anyway, can you finish what I asked you to do, or am I going to have to do it myself?" Shiela questioned while raising an eyebrow.

"Nope, don't worry, I've got it covered. Let me show you what I can do," I replied confidently. I opened the AVR, pressed the right buttons, and voila! It opened. I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment, as if I were doing something for the first time in my life. With a satisfied smile, I declared, "Done! It's open now. Let's click on the word... Ah, here it is!"

I celebrated my small victory, feeling proud of myself for venturing into uncharted territory.

"Hey, Shiela, come check it out! I'm done with the intro," I called out, eagerly awaiting her approval.

"Alright, just send it to me. I'll take a look first. Who knows, you might have slipped in something bizarre there," Shiela responded, maintaining a hint of skepticism. I complied, clicking the send button and passing the task on to Shiela for inspection.

"Mia you sent me the wrong document never mind ill just see it in your screen" Shiela approached, her eyes scanning the screen, and a smile tugged at the corners of her lips.

"Alright, let's see... Introduction of banana peel as acne treatment? Blah, blah, blah... Okay, it's nicely done. We can move on to the next steps. I'll just finish it later, and then we can submit it to the professor."

I nodded, feeling a surge of satisfaction at a job well done. "Great! I'll go back to my computer and search for something online."

"Sure, but before that, can you pass me that sheet when we go to class? I always forget it. Thanks," Shiela requested.

"Oh, and by the way, we're going to have a barbecue later to celebrate Jared's birthday. There will be alcohol, too," she added, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"Wait, isn't it banned for minors to have alcohol?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

Shiela chuckled, seeing through my playful façade. "Stop joking around, Mia. You're always the one who ends up having too many drinks and doing weird stuff when you're drunk. So, are you coming?"

I hesitated for a moment, curiosity piqued by the idea of experiencing alcohol in this new world. "Okay, I guess."

"Great! Let's have some drinks later," Shiela exclaimed, her enthusiasm contagious.

As Shiela left to attend to her own tasks, I returned to the computer, my fingers dancing across the keyboard with newfound dexterity. The screen shimmered, capturing my thoughts and ideas, translating them into digital form. It felt like I had unlocked a hidden talent, one that lay dormant within me all along.

Fascinated by the speed at which I completed my tasks and the ease with which I maneuvered the technology, I couldn't help but smile. This world was full of surprises, and I was determined to explore every nook and cranny, embracing the adventure that lay before me.

But first, I needed to fuel my hungry mind and body. I logged off the computer and made my way back to the cafeteria, savoring the sights and sounds of this bustling place. It was a mosaic of diverse faces and conversations, a tapestry of experiences waiting to be woven into my own story.

As I made my way through the bustling cafeteria, filled with a variety of delectable options, I couldn't help but marvel at the abundance of choices. It was like a grand feast every single day. Eager to learn more about this world, I hurriedly grabbed a plate and filled it with tantalizing dishes.

"I'm not quite accustomed to all of this yet. It feels like I've been set free from a cage today, with so much left to discover from my old world," I mused, savoring each bite as I savored each moment of exploration.

As I sat down in my computer with my plate of delicious food, I drooled in marvel that was presented to me. This body, this world both were unfamiliar, yet filled with endless possibilities. With each bite, I savored not just the flavors on my tongue but also the anticipation of the journey that awaited me.

"Okay, let's see... history, hmm? It's not matching up with what I know from my world. Maybe we've been forgotten, or perhaps this is an entirely different world altogether, not just a different era, but the royals name are there how strange" I pondered, lost in my thoughts.

History may not align with what I knew, but that only made it all the more intriguing. I was determined to uncover the secrets of this world, to find my place within it, and perhaps, along the way, discover a way back to the world or unravel the mystery of this world is that same that I once knew.

"Alright, Mia let's get back and continue our quest for knowledge," I declared, taking a seat and diving into the research once again.

Lost in my thoughts, I realized that my path had diverged, leading me down a road I could have never imagined. And so, with a heart brimming with curiosity and a mind eager to learn, I ventured forth, ready to seize the opportunities that lay ahead in this mesmerizing realm.

"Hmm, I've been searching for ways to return to my world or find someone who has experienced something similar here, but the internet is unreliable, full of scammers and false news. Ah well, forget it. Let's focus on assessing the condition of this body," I muttered, typing away on the keyboard.

The journey to unraveling the mysteries of this modern world had just begun, and I was determined to adapt, survive, and perhaps even find a way back to where I truly belonged. Little did I know that this peculiar adventure would lead to unforgettable experiences, unexpected friendships, and a deeper understanding of myself.
