Military Academy

As he came out of the house they were in. He saw dozens of kids playing in different places some distances away. Of course, he wasn't a kid but an adult in a child's body. So he wasn't interested in such kind of childish plays.

Then he looked at the homes of people here. It was like he was in a rural area. He guessed these people were all average people and were farmers, herders, livestock rearers, fishermen and so on by occupation who would journey to the city to sell their harvests.

"Bai Chen, I am glad you have recovered. How are you now?" a few people came over and one of them asked. These were young people consisting of both boys and girls. They were his sister's neighborhood friends.

Not able to recall any of them, he replied with a smile. "Am fine. Thank you." These people nodded. "Are your sisters in?" one of the girls in this group asked. "Yes. She is in". They nodded and went in.

Suddenly, the ground started trembling. His eyes widened in shock. What first came to his mind was zombies, juggernaut zombies. He looked at himself and saw that he wasn't armed and that he was too small in size to perform anything. He was in the body of a five year old child. His facial expression spoiled. If these were zombies or something like that, he would die again or worst, turn into a zombie, and he had vowed to hold onto this second life he was given.

Not very long, he saw hundreds of beasts rushing towards them. On top of these beasts were humans dressed in black uniforms.

The beasts they were on looked like wolves. They were grey in colour and had eyes that glowed in purple. These wolf-like beasts were twenty feet tall and thirty feet long. This made them look enormous. There were about fifty of these beasts.

Bai Chen's heart skipped a beat. The hell! What the fuck was this. Were the gods kidding him? In this new world he was brought into, they also had problems too with invasion or what? What are these beasts and were those humans riding the beasts?

Not very long, the beasts arrived in front of them and the people riding them came down. They wore black uniforms. A blue pentagon embroidery could be seen on the right side of the uniform they wore and hung on their back were swords, blades etc.

One, wearing a mask, remained atop the beasts seemingly overseeing the whole thing. But these person had the figure of a female. A woman was the one in charge of this group.

The people that came down from the beasts walked forward to meet these people. One of them in front said "There is no need for introduction as I believe you all know who we are already. So, fast-forwarding to what we are here for, we are here to recruit children from your town into the military academy. All males from your household around the age of twelve should be brought to our military academy for enrolment. We promise to take care of your children and train them to become powerful military experts that would awe gods."

Bai Chen heard this and his eyes shone. As he was an elite soldier in his former life, this enticed him greatly. But he didn't meet up to the age requirements. He could only shake his head in disappointment. He was being limited by the new body he was in.

Then they walked back to their beasts and jumped onto it back. With a shout, the beasts turned around and shot forward at shocking speed. They had come in this number just to deliver this little message? Perhaps they came like this to look tyrannical and powerful, to well up fear and awe in the heart of these people.

When those men jumped onto the beasts' backs, Bai Chen's eyes glittered with surprise. These warriors had jumped onto the backs of beasts that were twenty feet tall. It was like they had superhuman jumping power. It was like there was no gravity acting on them as they jumped very high into the air and slowly landed on the backs of the colossal beasts. He couldn't help but be wowed.

When they left, the atmosphere returned to normal. Then people started discussing. "The Black Heaven military academy have come again to recruit our children. But it is a good thing for them, as they would go there and become powerful. They would make us, their parents, be feared by all..." As someone was speaking, he was suddenly interrupted by another person. "Oh and what if they end up dead from military missions assigned to them, who would make you proud and feared by all? Their ghosts?"

Like that, they engage in intense arguments. Bai Chen went back into the house. He needed to ask his parent some things.

"Mom. Those people in uniforms riding on those beasts. Who are they?" he asked. "....They are one of the many military academy in the city. The one you asked about is the Black Heaven military academy. Due to a great calamitous war that happened many years ago, every academy has been turned into a military academy. Apart from cultivation, they allow them to go through rigorous military training to become warriors that would protect the city they were assigned to. The people from this academies go to towns yearly to announce recruitment of children from the age of twelve into the academy." she said. She was wondering if her son had actually lost his memories. He seemed to have forgotten about a lot of things. This was because when he was young, he would always tell her that he would join the Black Heaven military academy when he turned fifteen.

At the mention of cultivation, he became surprised. Back in his own world, cultivation was more like planting of crops. He couldn't relate cultivation to military. So he asked "Oh. Mom what's cultivation?" he asked.

"Son, I don't know what that is. But I know it refers to the means by which people can develop powers." she said. "Powers? What kind of power?" he asked in a curious tone. "Well.. Power like flight, discharge flames from the body, move at impossible speed and so on. Just anything you can imagine." she said. Bai Chen was dumbfounded. So people could gain superphysical powers in this world. "This is insane" he said inwardly. "and this is done through cultivation?" he asked. "yes son."
