Chapter–3

<<Char-char-charmander!>>

Charmander nods his head rapidly.

"Hehe, aren't you impatient~ Alright, here you go." Roland tossed a pokeball at Charmander and waited for the catching process to complete.

.

.

"Yes, I got Charmander!" Seeing the ball stop wiggling Roland heaved a sigh and picked it up.

"Charmander, come out." He threw the pokeball in the air.

<<Cha-char-charmander!>>

Without wasting any time, Charmander started asking for more food.

"Hehe~ Wait a bit." Roland chuckled a little before handing him some more food.

He gave some to Squirtle and Bulbasaur as well. Of course, he gave them the ordinary quality one. As he didn't plan on taking them.

"Hey will you participate in Indigo League?" Asked Gary out of the blue.

"I plan to." Roland replied without turning back. He was busy patting Charmander's head.

"Huh, then hate to break it to you. But, this time I'll be the champion! You shouldn't get your hopes up." Gary taunted with his same prideful tone.

"We'll see. Action speaks louder than words." Roland said nonchalantly. He was in a good mood now that he got a Charmander. He wasn't in a mood to argue with a silly kid.

Smirk~

"Yeah, yeah. I agree on that. I'll defeat you, if we meet in the league." Gary pursued his lips and didn't try any further. He realized unlike Ash, his words don't have any effect on Roland.

"Alright, I should get going." He said and retrieved Charmander back to the pokeball. He already got his trainer ID along with the other basic things. There was nothing more to do here.

"As you wish. Remember to catch some rare Pokemon and don't worry you can send your extra Pokemon here. I'll take care of them." Said professor Oak as he shook hands with Roland.

"Then I'll be leaving." Roland said his goodbyes and left.

He planned to first head to Viridian forest so he can catch some Pokemon and train them for their future battle as his first challenge will be Brock gym leader of the Pewter gym.

He was sure Brock is the current gym leader. Since Garry is going to participate in this year's tournament. That means, he is a few months ahead of the real storyline.

...

It was noon and Roland could be seen walking alone on the road to Viridian forest.

He was using the system's map to navigate ahead. Judging by the distance, he should arrive there by late night. If he continues to walk non-stop. But, for obvious reasons Roland decided to camp tonight and start traveling again in the morning. He wasn't in a hurry anyways.

After walking for four more hours, Roland found himself near a river bed. So, he thought of setting the camp here for the night.

"This place is great. I should release them as well." Roland brought out two of his very first Pokemon: Charmander, and Magikarp.

He let Magikarp go into the waters as the river had close to not current. Whereas Charmander wandered around curiously, before finally sitting beside the river. Enjoy the beauty of nature.

Roland let them do whatever they wanted and began to set up the camp.

After setting up the tent Roland was leisurely sitting next to the river beside Charmander. He was thinking what to do. Now, that he time to calmly analyse his situation. He came to a single conclusion.

"My Pokemon are not ready for gym battles." He sighed. Magikarp is a non-combatant Pokemon, he is like a long term investment. Even though, Magikarp is useless Gyarados is incredible. But, it will take time for Magikarp to evolve.

This leaves him with only Charmander. However, Charmander is a Fire-type Pokemon so he was at a disadvantage against Brock's Rock-type Pokemon. He was too low levelled as well.

There was another fact that he doesn't have enough Pokemon to challenge Brock anyway. He needs at least one more Pokemon before he can formally challenge the Viridian city gym. Since Brock uses two Pokemon and Magikarp doesn't count.

"Let's see.... Brock uses Rock-type Pokemon. They are weak against Grass and Water type the most. I already have Magikarp, if I can evolve him into a Gyarados he will wipe the floor. However, Brock will have the terrain advantage. My best bet is a Grass-type and the overall best Grass-type of Kanto is Bulbasaur." Roland though.

"Hey system, explain every talent level."

[Talent or potential is divided into–

Average

Good

Excellent

Outstanding

Note: Outstanding potential is exclusive to only Legendary, Mythical, and Pseudo Legendary Pokemon]

"?...Huh, Why is this limited to only them?" Roland can't help but ask.

[Regular Pokemon don't need that high potential to reach their final stage. On the other hand, legendary and mythical Pokemon grow slower and need more time to reach maturity. In order to evolve faster they naturally need greater talent.

The difference between a Pokemon with average talent and good talent is 2x, between a good talent and excellent talent the difference is 4x, between average and excellent the difference is about 6x.]

"Kinda makes sense." He nodded in understanding. It's certainly harder to raise Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon. Nevertheless, the pros outweigh the cons. The majority of ordinary Pokemon don't stand a chance in front of a well trained Pseudo-Legendary. Much less against a actual mythical or legendary Pokemon.

"Whatever, I need to catch a Bulbasaur with excellent potential." This will be his mission while going toward Viridian city.

The day came to an end with the sun going down the horizon. Looking at the darkening sky Roland gave his Pokemon food and ate himself before sending the back into the pokeballs. Afterward, he heads off to sleep.

...

Next morning, after giving his Pokemon breakfast and eating breakfast himself, Roland decided to go on search for a Bulbasaur.

"Charmander let's go." The released Charmander, as Bulbasaur is a Grass-type and he has the type advantage. Roland also plans to make Charmander fight other Pokemon for him to gain experience.

<<Char, charmander!!>>

Charmander hopped around cheerfully and began to follow Roland.

Just like that Roland and Charmander went on their epic quest to catch a Bulbasaur. On their way, they encountered a variety of Pokemon. From Rattata, Ekans, Paras.

He purposely avoided Spearow and Weedles. Roland knew Spearow and Weedles live in packs. As of now, Charmander is nowhere near enough to handle a pack of Beedrill or furious Fearow.

Charmander won those fights without much trouble as he had the type advantage. Due to this, his level increased by two. Bringing him to level 6.

"Appraisal."
