11 Sharpness

"Ugh... It's great that I have something exclusive, but there is no book about how to use it, I will need to experiment by myself," Char thought to himself.

After he read through all the books about runes, he was sure that the rune in his third magic was an ancient rune. He could not find it in any of the books, not even in the advance category.

"Rarer does not always mean stronger, everything depends on how I use it," He thought.

With all the information he had read, he went to an open field where other students usually train. Unlike the elites, these students don't have any place to train so they convert a field to a training ground.

He found quite a bit of people there; they put some distance between each other since they were training their creatures' magic. In case their creature had a mishap with its magic, they would not need to be afraid of disturbing others.

Char went to the side that had not been taken yet, He sat on the ground and sent his consciousness into his magic circles.

He went directly to the physical resistance magic. First, he replaced the resistance rune with an attack rune, then the anti rune with an increase rune.

"The skeleton already runs out of mana, I will need to fill it again before continuing the modification," he thought.

According to Mr. Brown, the magic modification was supposed to be finished, but Char was not satisfied with it. He wanted to change at least one more rune before calling it done.

He summoned the skeleton before commanding it to absorb mana from the surrounding; it did not take long, and the skeleton exploded. That attracts others' attention, but they soon brush it off. It was normal for creatures to explode once in a while when they train.

The bigger explosion did not make anyone suspicious as they just think Char made a bigger mistake in his modification.

With the skeleton's level back to its best, he replaced the impact rune with a sharpness rune. Char planned to use a sword to fight, so a boost in impact did not really help with his fighting style. He might be able to incorporate kicking or other impact techniques but it would not be as effective as using his sword.

"It's done!" he finally finished his modification.

He wanted to test the ability, but he did not bring any weapon with him, so he went toward a tree and snapped one of its branches.

"This should work," he thought and summoned the skeleton once more.

He threw the branch at the skeleton, "use that as a sword and try to cut this leaf," he commanded the skeleton.

Normally, a branch could not cut a leaf, and the result was as expected, it pushed aside the leaf instead of cutting it in half.

"Now try to use the new magic," he commanded the skeleton.

He moved back a few meters, and the skeleton exploded. It died from the magic malfunctioning, Char needed to repeat the process a few more times before the skeleton would not die from the explosion.

It still exploded, but it did not die from it, it healed back with time and continued to train the magic, after the ninth try, it could finally activate the magic without exploding, white aura was covering its body, signaling the magic's activation.

"Now cut this leaf once again," He instructed.

Swoosh... the branch cut through the air and hit the leaf. To Char's disappointment, it did not cut the leaf in half, but when he came closer to inspect the leaf, it actually had a slight cut on it.

"Hmm... I need to master the ability so it can be useful," He thought.

He commanded the skeleton to keep using the magic repeatedly. On the other hand, he was not idle. He snapped another branch and tried to do the same.

Now that the skeleton stopped exploding, it was safe enough for him to use the magic ability.

He activated the magic circle in him and he could feel mana drained from his body; they form a white aura all over his body.

He widened his stance and swung the blade forward. He could feel the branch cutting the air, "This magic indeed boosts my ability, but It's kind of wasteful," He lamented.

"Bone, stop." He commanded the skeleton to stop repeating the magic.

"Try to concentrate the magic on your arm and the branch," he instructed it because covering the entire body with the magic was not effective since only the arm and the supposed sword were used to attack.

It nodded at him but Char did not notice it; the skeleton tried to concentrate the magic on its arm, but the result was not ideal, the magic still covering its body.

It tried to use the magic repeatedly until it ran out of mana, once it ran out of mana, it used its third magic ability to absorb mana and stopped halfway before it exploded.

"The mana expenditure is quite high," Char thought to himself.

Suddenly the skeleton's arm exploded when it tried to concentrate the magic on its arm. The branch got destroyed with it.

Char watched as it continued its training after the regeneration. He trained his sword stance while waiting for the skeleton to improve.

Others were watching him as his skeleton kept exploding over and over again. Compared to other creatures, his skeleton had exploded four times as much.

"The Genius is no more. Look at his skeleton, it's so pathetic that it kept exploding," others sneered at him.

He could only close his ear and concentrate on his training, It was then that the skeleton could finally use the magic properly.

The white aura condensed on its arm and the new branch it used as a sword, it looked more solid than before.

"Bone, try to cut that leaf," he instructed.

Swoosh... It cut the leaf in half and continued to the tree itself. The branch edge touched it, leaving a small scar on the tree.

"Wow! That is better than I expected!" he mused in his heart.

He looked at the people who sneered at him with laughter in his eyes before he went back to his dorm without saying a single word.

He did not need to say anything to convey his thoughts, "What were you saying again?" he thought in sarcasm.
