3 Running into a Group of Monsters

I voiced my thoughts out loud, "What's a herene?"

The boy looked back at me with a confused awkward face. "Maybe, she's unaware." The boy mumbled again.

I wondered how long this person was going to keep ignoring me (not that I was ungraceful he let me ride in his car).

While I drifted into my thoughts, the driver yelled, "We ran into a swarm of Ferybers!"

Ferybers were mutated brown bears that had the huge power of mana leaning towards fire magik and were classified as B-level.

When I got up from my seat to look outside the window, there was indeed about a group of six ferybers.

When I snuck into my uncle's study about a year ago to read some recent documents that were transferred from our Lord, the report about ferybers caught my eye.

Ferybers were relatively dangerous because they could spit out fire from their mouths. However, if you didn't possess any food or people with magik with you, they were relatively harmless unless you approached them first.

Every animal mutated from mana were called demons because they were attracted to people with magik in order to absorb their mana. Mana was something like a person's life force, so if something absorbed all their mana, the person would shrivel up and die.

Unfortunately, we had a driver full of delicious mana for the demons and maybe the boy as well.

"Pull the speed up and drive as fast as you can!" The boy screamed.

The car accelerated until the ferybers were no longer to be seen. "I think I have to take a break before I start driving again young master Louise." The driver said sternly.

Louise nodded his head indicating that he understood. Maybe driving the car took up a lot of mana?

The driver soon stopped driving and stopped near a forest.

When the car has completely halted to stop, Louise went outside of the car and opened the trunk to grab some food. "Hey! What are you doing? Go and serve the food!" Louise demanded.

"There's no table? Unless we're eating on the ground?" I replied.

"How useless!" Louise said disappointingly.

He pulled out some binoculars from the trunk and handed it me, "At least you can serve as the lookout!"

Lookout? I took the binoculars from his hand and asked, "How do I use this thing?"

Louise sighed while he explained, "You place the small lens of the binoculars in front of your eyes to see things that are further away. Any more questions?"

The binoculars had two sets of lens. Two were small and two were a lot bigger. I placed the small set of lens in front of my eyes.

How fascinating! When I looked through this artifact, I could adjust how far I wanted to see with twisting a knob right beside the lens!

At one metre away, I saw an unless field of grass swallowing up the scenery. When I adjusted to ten metres away, I could see the flower field that the car has passed by few minutes ago. However, when I adjusted the binoculars to see 100 metres from where I was now, I could see a swarm of ferybers heading towards our direction.

"I see a swarm of ferybers heading towards our direction," I yelled out with a anxious face.

"Shoot! Those demons- ... They don't know when do give up do they?" Louise frowned.

"Ken! Are you better yet? Do you think you can drive?" Louise yelled to the driver.

"Only for about five minutes at full speed," Ken replied with a tired face.

After Louise nodded his head, he closed the trunk and we went back into the car. I guess I'll grab some food from my backpack since I didn't get to eat.

Ken poured his mana into the engine to start up the car and the control buttons started to glow in response!

As soon as the car was ready to go, the car went off at an astronomical high speed. However, as Ken mentioned, he couldn't drive any further at full speed after five minutes.

"How's the distance between the ferybers?" Louise asked while gritting his teeth.

When I looked through the binoculars again, the ferybers were coming at an even faster speed before! "500 metres, 400 metres, 300 metres and now 200 metres!" I yelled out.

Louise suddenly grabbed the binoculars from my hands and opened the car door and kicked me out of the car. "Well, you're a herene, so you'll probably be fine. Serve as a good distraction." He said while glaring at me.

"Ken! Start driving again at a slower speed!" Louise yelled.

When I started to move again, unfrozen from my shock, the car was disappearing into the distance, while the ferybers were close enough to be seen with my naked eyes.

Was I going to die now?
