17 Connection

I still had her hair in my fingers and I was twirling it around when I went on to question her about her position.

"Can you get me in the HQ?"

"Yep, I can get you in any room," She says with a smile.

"I meant without having to worry about getting caught."

"Oh, then no."

"Well that's fine I didn't have the option before so it doesn't change anything."

'Should I change up my plans?'

"When will others come to check up on this division?" I ask.

"The commander usually sends a message twice a day but even if he misses a day it's not abnormal. If I had to guess we have slightly under two days."

"The last division I went to said that if I abandoned my station it would be punishable by death, is this true?"

"Yes, everyone who fights surrenders up their lives, it's a suicide mission. We're not meant to come back only push forth."

"Why did you sign up then."

"I didn't. My mother was chosen to fight when she was pregnant with me. After she gave birth to me she was too weak and ended up dying only a year after I was born. Then ever since then, I've been a part of dozens of groups where I've grown up. Legally there's not even a record of my birth, I've been out here all my life."

"Then why do you want to die if you've survived out here for so long?"

When I asked this it caused her to get up and look at me.

Her body was pressed against me and her face was right next to mine.

The hair I had in my fingers dropped and returned to its place.

The emotion she showed on her face was one I've never seen. It seemed like a mix of disappointment and pity.

'But who are you disappointed in?' I ask myself.

"First you somehow knew my abilities and now you know my feelings," She began.

"You really see right through me," She said as she moved closer.

And she continued to move towards me until she was right up against my face.

At only inches away her nose was nearly touching mine.

"It's my destiny," She says as she stares into my eyes. "Do you believe in destiny?"

"No. Even if we are destined for something I will break it and form my own path. I mean I already have. But it's just the beginning."

With a sigh, she backs down and returns to her original position on my legs.

"What's the plan?" She asks.

"We-" I start before getting cut off as she grabs my hand and puts it in her hair.

Understanding what she wants I grab another strand and play with it again.

"We won't be waiting for them to come and search for us instead we're going to another division. We will infiltrate it and make a name for ourselves. We're going to push and push and kill and kill many beasts until we get the recognition we need to enter the HQ. Once we get in I'll need to come in contact with the leaders and once I do so it will all be over."

"Why can't I just teleport us in and we take them out?"

"I thought of that but it's too risky the leaders of divisions are much higher levels than me, yourself included. This probably means that they are even stronger. I could kill many of them may be even all of them but if I get hit even just once I'll die. It's too much of a risk for such an important mission. Plus I don't have any mana so killing the beasts will help me."

"You don't have any mana?"

"Nope. Zero."

"Is that why you were hiding up in this tree?"

"Yeah," I say not afraid to admit my weaknesses.

"You know I could kill you right now. Why do you trust me so much?" She asks.

"Because of what you said 'Were both broken'."

"That saying makes you trust me? I could kill you now or run by teleporting away and warn the leaders of your plan. You don't make a lot of sense."

"Call it a feeling. I know you won't hurt me and will help with my mission and in return, I'll be the one to kill you. Do we have a deal?"

"I already said I would. I want to have fun by your side!"

With that our conversation ends and our journey begins.

We both get up and jump down from the tree.

"Isn't it pretty?" I ask.

"I think it's ugly," She says.

'Everywhere I go I seem to dye the green forest red. I can't be helped but I disagree with her. Seeing the color, the looks for horror on their dead faces, body parts everywhere, and insides outside was a sight I would never get tired of.'

"The weak deserve to die. It's only right for them to be like this," I say.

"The weak do deserve to die. But ugly is still ugly," She responds.

"Why don't you like it?"

"Because of the ugliness that humans are, it ruins the beauty of this world."

"Hahaha," I laugh as I look at her face and see how serious she is.

"What?" She asks confused and embarrassed.

"We're opposites. I see the world as ugly and this being the only way to make it pretty. You see the world beautiful but this as ugly."

"Yeah, I guess that's true," She admits

"If you don't like it why do you kill and let them die?" I ask. She said that this is ugly let she let her fellow warriors die and she killed the beetle.

"I see people as ugly alive or dead. So with their remains spread out, I see it as them tainting the world. But now that they are dead eventually what lays here will be wiped away and the original beauty will return. But if they are alive they will continue to make the planet ugly for as long as they live. So even though it's ugly now it will be pretty later. That's why I let them die."

Ecstatic I say, "We are going to have so much fun together!"
