Chapter 30- Lovers Quarrel

It has been a few months Ceaser and the knights left with the Prince of Arrentela to take care of the conflict of the south.

Now apparently they are trying to mend the problem before returning, I heard the Prince has been fighting bravely against the rebels, and people are starting to like him a lot.

Well that's good for him and all, but I am still rooting for Ceaser. I don't dare to say that out loud people will start to think that I support the rebels.

However I do understand why there's so many people dissatisfied, up until a few months this family, my family had really hard time filling their stomachs with food. We were surviving day to day. And that's the reality of many people around the kingdom.

The fact that our food is imported from other kingdoms, everything is double or even more of the price that it should be, making the aristocracy the only one's who can afford food.

Thanks to Mr. Cirius we have been able to get cheaper goods from other kingdoms.

I still feel is not right in long term they're just killing their peasants in slowly painful way.

"Ohh my dear, my love my darling." I didn't immediately recognize the voice but the sound of it made my skin crawl. "It's me my dear your fiancé."

"Ex fiancé. "I said turning to him, I could only roll my eyes. What was he doing here, after that day at the market, I never saw him again, he was beaten pretty bad, so "seducing" women who he was not supposed to mess with.

I wonder what he wants now.

"My dear, you've blossomed, how have you been?" He said is voice filled with mellow.

"Mr. Vaner what is it that you wish from me?" I will be as formal as possible, so he understands that there's a distance between us. I have no intention of getting mixed with him.

Oscar smirked, his eyes darting around the as if searching for someone. "Oh, my dear, can't I just visit an old flame? It's been so long since we last saw each other." My skin crawled with those words, I feel embarrassed to have been associated with this person.

I crossed my arms, unimpressed by his attempts at charm. "Cut the act, Mr. Vaner. What do you really want? My time is very limited" I was just trying to get rid of him, I was indeed in a hurry, I had a delivery to take care.

His smile faded slightly, and he took a step closer to me. "My dear,I have missed you bright smile, how could you have forgotten about me so quickly. Aren't you cruel? " People were starting to stare, I see he was intending to make a scene, I can't afford to let him do that it would be bad for business.

I raised an eyebrow, trying to keep my composure. "I think you should go Mr. Vaner, you broke my heart, many times, it was hard but it healed, or should I remind you of what you've done. All the times you have broken my hopeless little heart." I said with the saddest voice I could find. I didn't have time to pretend I had a client that was waiting for me.

He grabbed my arm trying to pull me close. If his voice made my skin crawl with disgust, his touch made my skin want to run off.

I needed to be firm and very harsh so he could go away.

"Please Mr. Vaner unhand me, I have no more business with you. You had my heart once but you didn't care for it, you played around with anyone who gave you the chance." I could see that my words stang his pride a little bit.

I could already hear the whisper around us.

"What is happening?" One asked

"It seems a lovers quarrel." Another answered people were already surrounding us with curious eyes.

What lovers quarrel, I wanted to kick this bastard to the moon, but I didn't have time for this.

As Oscar continue on keeping my arm in his grip, with a swift motion, I twisted my arm out of his grasp and stepped back, putting some distance between us.

"Please leave, Mr. Vaner. I don't know what you want from me , we are both strangers now, I just want move on with my life," I said firmly, trying to maintain my composure in front of the growing crowd.

For my surprise this bastard kneeled begging me to forgive him. I wanted to stab this cheating bastard, had he no pride?

"My daughter already told you , she wants nothing to do with you so I suggest you take your leave, Mr. Vaner." Ohhh yes!! Father appeared, he looks intimidating when he wants. Good one Dad!!!

Oscar glared at me, his eyes filled with anger and frustration. "You'll regret this, Rahua." he spat out before storming off.

Goodbye Oscar there's nothing here for you. I smile at Father he his indeed great.

"Thank you father. " I say trying to maintain my composure.

"Maybe from now on I should take care of the delivery services." He said with a hint of worry in his eyes.

"Nonsense." I didn't want to give away my great source of information, I needed to know what was happening in aristocracy events. "I am fine, doing this." I say rearranging the packages father had just brought in.

"I see, you should be careful okay? I worry, so does you mother. " He says he gently.

"You don't have to worry, the clients are normally fine, people like Oscar only want to take advantage of people they think that are weak."

He sighted but not very satisfied. I could only smile. "That box you still have should I take from you?"

He glances at it, "no this I will bring to friend of mine, Kira had this idea of making the our street brighter, I am going to ask them for help, this is just a present."

"Ohh I see" I smile, I knew Kira had a very kin eye for things like this, if she knew how to read or studied she would be an amazing business woman.

"Should I give you a ride there." I say petting at delievery wagon that I had rent to the services.

"No need, I can walk is just at end of the street. Have a safe journey. " He says hello the wagon driver, a young man we hired to drives around. And father left with the package.

I hop in, next to driver and give him the a nod for us to go.

We make our deliveries for the day, there was nothing much worth mentioning, I have been trying to get more information about what is going on lately, since the Prince has become this influence figure, I want to know what the maids have heard about that.

So I decide to approach one of the maids while I was delivering, I found one taking a break. Her name is Emily, a friendly and reliable young woman who has been working at this Lord's house for a few years now.

"Hey, Emily," I start as I join her at the break room table, I hand her a cupcake. "Have you heard anything interesting about the Prince lately?" I went directly to the subject I didn't have much time to drop hints and poke around.

She looks up from her cup of tea and smiles at me, taking on the cupcake. "Oh, you're curious about that too, huh? Yes, there's been quite a buzz around here about the Prince. People are talking."

I lean in closer, intrigued. "What are they saying? Is there anything specific?" I wanted to know anything, everything I could.

Emily takes a sip of her tea, appearing thoughtful. "Well, you know how the Prince has always been seen as a bit of a recluse, noone knows about him, even the big noble houses are ignorant about his Highness, right? But lately, he's been causing a lot of attention, with his actions down in south. Apparently, he's been making quite an impression with his speeches and charm. My cousin she lives down south, she told me he was amazing with sword, when he is not helping the people he is sparing with your Highness Lord Ceaser"

I nod, absorbing the information. "Interesting. Do they say anything about his intentions or what he plans to do?"

She shrugs, adding a touch of mystery to her response. "Nobody really knows for sure. Some say he's trying to gather support, maybe even make a political move. Others think he just wants to make his mark and change the perception people have of him."

I ponder her words for a moment before continuing, "And what about his relationship with the King? Have you heard anything about that?"

Emily lowers her voice, ensuring no one else overhears our conversation. "Rumors says that the Prince and the King have been in heated discussions before he left for campaign in the south. It seems like there might be some disagreement on important matters. Nobody knows the details, but tensions have definitely been noticeable."

I raise an eyebrow, fascinated by the source of information that maids provide. "Thank you for sharing, Emily. It's intriguing to hear what's happening behind the scenes. If you hear anything else, let me know. I'm always curious to stay informed, you can also come over the shop there's tea and cupcakes." I wink at her.

She nods, a mischievous sparkle in her eyes. "Of course, I'll keep you updated. There's always something interesting happening here."

As her little break comes to an end, we part ways, my mind buzzing with the new tidbits of information I gained. It seems the Prince's recent rise in influence is not without its complexities, and I can't help but wonder what caused such huge changes in the story.
