42 Chapter 42 - The Hale Family's Inheritance (1)

"Don't you want to know your trial's result?" The formation's spirit said with excitement after receiving everyone's attention.

She had never had the chance to get into contact and communicate with so many people before. Excluding the annoying teacher of this little guy, the remaining people (or weapons) looked intriguing.

"Of course not, senior," Theodore said as he respectfully bowed toward the monument with a courteous smile on his face. He acted like a bright, well-behaved child seeking advice, trying to create the best first impression for himself.

He also had his reason for aiming at the direction of the monument. Although the voice of the formation's spirit was echoing through the hall room, his gut feeling told him that the core was there.

Theodore had many considerations when performing this simple action to create a good image for himself.

Nathan, who was watching his disciple's action, was in a daze.

After getting along with Theodore for some time, he was familiar with his apprentice's personality to a certain extent and could guess what he was trying to do.

His cunning disciple was trying to create a good impression for the immature formation's spirit to trick and get more benefits from her.

'What a devious child,' Nathan thought while shaking his head lightly. He had little expectation that the inexperienced formation's spirit could resist falling into his apprentice's trick.

...The result was as Nathan had expected.

The childlike formation's spirit, residing in the monument, completely overlooked the fact that Theodore could locate her location.

She quickly fell into Theodore's scheme, thinking this descendant of her master was such a good and polite little child.

"There is no need to be that formal; you can call me sister Anna." The formation's spirit replied with a kind voice. The tone was drastically different compared to when she was arguing with Nathan.

"Sister Anna." Theodore blinked before he also cooperated and responded obediently with his pure voice.

He showed his innocent and bright eyes with a bashful smile. The vibe from him gave off a naive and optimistic feeling.

'Awwwww.' Anna screamed secretly in her mind. She felt like an arrow traveled from Theodore and struck her heart fiercely.

As if being affected by Anna's fierce emotion, the formation in the hall room also trembled slightly, distorting the atmosphere and resulting in the rampant mana of various colors.

Anna took a while to calm herself down. She finally replied with a vibrant voice, full of happiness, "Good child. What a good child."

...

On the other side, Nathan was even more speechless with his disciple's action.

He had an illusion that a pair of fox ears and a tail were wagging as Theodore continued to act and made the genuinely innocent formation's spirit, Anna, fall into his grasp step by step.

Nathan did not need to wait long to see the little fox to take his following action.

...

Anna could not perceive what Nathan was thinking; even if she could, she would not necessarily believe it.

She continued talking about the trivial and amusing topics with this descendant of her master that she liked, happily having fun after a long time.

Theodore, discreetly discerning Anna's reaction, felt that the time was ripe, so he slowly brought the conversation to the main topic he hoped to know without being too erupt.

"Sister Anna, did I pass the trial?" He finally asked hesitantly with expectation in his eye.

Anna perceived Theodore's expression. As a formation's spirit, she could sense everything in her formation by grasping and feeling the flow of mana.

Seeing such hope and anticipation sparkling in Theodore's eyes, Anna also recalled that she had not told Theodore the result yet, and he had been waiting for her this entire time.

Previously, it was because she was too preoccupied with chatting that she almost forgot about it. Thinking that Theodore had desperately wanted to know the result but did not choose to interrupt her trivial gossip and hurt her feelings, she felt even more wrong for him.

What an irresponsible formation spirit she was!

Several heart-breaking and self-blame thoughts passed through Anna's mind. Her sad emotion caused the mana and atmosphere in the formation to dim along with her mental state.

"Sister Anna..." Theodore called softly again as if he was consoling her, hoping she would not worry.

Anna felt even more remorseful; she could not bear to let this little child suffer from waiting any moment longer.

With this thought, she quickly told Theodore his result, "Of course, you passed the trial. Not only did you pass, but your result was also outstanding."

As Anna continued her praise, she silently thought that even if Theodore did not pass, she would use my authority to help. In any case, there was no one to supervise her work.

Anna complimented Theodore so much that he felt awkward. She only stopped when she noticed no more words left in her dictionary.

Continuing would be repeating herself, and she found it unacceptable!

Theodore secretly breathed a sigh of relief that Anna had stopped. He steadily took this chance to ask her about the inheritance.

"Sister Anna, does this mean I can get the inheritance?" Theodore hesitantly inquired with the similar expectation he had previously.

Looking at Theodore's hopeful gaze, how could Anna endure saying no? Moreover, there was nothing wrong with Theodore, who was her master's descendant and passed the trial to get the inheritance.

"Certainly, come here and put your hand on the monument," Anna quickly said as she controlled mana to guide Theodore forward.

Theodore touched the monument with Anna's guidance and felt its smooth and cold surface.

He then stared deep inside as if he could see Anna in the monument and sent her a confusing gaze as if he did not know what to do next.

Sensing Theodore's gaze, Anna answered Theodore with a gentle voice. "Nod to me when you are ready. It may hurt a little, but you should be able to endure it as you have passed the trial."

"Don't worry; with sister here, I will not let you be in danger," Anna added when she felt that she should reassure Theodore more.

"Thank you, sister Anna." Theodore expresses his gratitude 'sincerely' to the formation's spirit.

He then took a deep breath as if gathering courage before he nodded with decisiveness in his eyes.

The moment he did so, Theodore gradually felt his head hurting like thousands of ants crawling together in his brain.

He remained conscious throughout the whole process. When he was suffering from the pain, he could sense a strange knowledge slowly engraving in his mind.

Theodore bit his lip so tightly that a blood-strain mark was on it, but he never let his voice out.

Anna looked distressingly at Theodore's blood but did not interrupt the inheritance process. She decided to give this child a special healing session afterward.

...

Theodore did not know how much time had passed until he felt the pain fade bit by bit.

When he felt that his mind was clear enough, he started trying to understand the new knowledge he had acquired.

When he got the overall picture of the inheritance, he felt bewildered.
