38 Chapter 38 - A Trial? (11)

Feeling the opponent's killing intent, Theodore also pulled out his sword, ready to face the enemy, in response.

Theodore's body was tense as he prepared to confront the enemy with the defensive stance he had learned during the city guard's training. His heart beat much faster than usual, showing his inner uneasiness; he had never fought desperately with anyone where life was at stake.

The closer the enemy was to him, the more pressure Theodore felt and the more sweat there was on his hand. He took a deep breath to calm himself down and remained focused.

What he needed to do now was not fight to the death with the opponents; he only had to delay until his city guard's teammate arrived, and he could win steadily.

Clang!

The enemy was strong and had more experience than him. Theodore could deduce this from their first exchange. The opponent's blow was clean and steady, with the decisiveness to kill.

Previously, Theodore had many plans and worries; however, they disappeared a lot the moment he crossed his sword with the enemies.

His goal of delaying the enemy until his teammate arrived became desperately fighting to live. Theodore knew he would certainly die if he was slightly negligent and the opponent had the chance.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Theodore and the enemy crossed their sword more than a dozen times. The longer they fought, the more Theodore retreated.

The more they fought, the more he was at a disadvantage!

Every move from the enemies was powerful and deadly, with a clear intention to kill him. Most importantly, all attacks he received accurately targeted his weak point.

The reason that he could survive until now was due to his sense of a vague perception that warned him of danger in advance from time to time. If not for this, he would have died some time ago.

'When will he arrive?' Theodore complained as he thought of his teammate. It should not take this much time for his companion to catch up with him.

While grumbling, he received a blow from the opponent that had become even fiercer.

Clang!!!

The fierce collision he had just exchanged with the opponent made Theodore's hand tremble. However, no matter how hurt his hand felt, Theodore insisted on holding his sword firmly.

If he lost his sword, he would definitely die.

...

As they fought, the fiercer the opponent was, the louder the commotion became and the harder it was for Theodore to resist.

When Theodore thought that the situation was not good and was considering the path to retreat, he accidentally saw his teammates hiding not far away, trying to sneak the enemy from behind.

'How long had you been there?' Although Theodore cursed his companion secretly, his heart calmed down considerably, and he tried to analyze the situation.

It seemed that his teammates had noticed the commotion from the fight, so he took a detour on the other path and appeared behind the enemy. It could also solve his doubt about why his companion did not appear to help him after an abnormally long time.

Despite having many thoughts flashing through his mind, Theodore tried to keep his face flat to prevent his enemy from noticing anything unusual as he quietly looked for the opportunity to guide the battle toward his teammate.

Throdore's attempt failed quickly.

Compared to the opponent, Theodore was a lot more inexperienced. His enemy could catch the slight flash in his eyes and noticed something was wrong.

The enemy quickly dealt one last decisive blow that made Theodore retreat several steps before decisively retreating.

Unfortunately for him, the route that he was retreating was in the direction where Theodore's teammate was hiding, lying in ambush.

Clang!

Feeling it was the right opportunity, Theodore's companion also determinedly struck the enemy when he thought the distance was suitable.

The enemy hastily blocked the attack; however, this assault still caused an injury on his shoulder.

The man in black did not care much about the wound he received but continued forward, not wanting to get outnumbered.

How could Theodore's teammate, an experienced city guard, let that happen? he quickly strode forward to block the enemy.

Because the enemy was injured, he became desperate and was increasingly fiercer in his attack.

Unlike the immature Theodore, the city guard was much more skilled and could calmly get entangled with the enemy.

As the two were intertwining, the enemy suddenly halted as he coughed out a mouthful of blood.

Sqwelp!

Theodore, who caught up, found the proper chance and quickly stabbed the enemy in the stomach before he pulled the sword out with a pale face.

Knowing that he could not survive, the man in black resolutely bit the poison sack in his mouth.

When Theodore and his teammate held the opponent down, his body twitched several times violently before he fell lifelessly to the ground.

"He died." The city guard, who was Theodore's teammate, said with an indifferent expression as he pulled out the man's cover.

Theodore's pale face became paler the moment he knew that someone had died because of him. However, this matter did not disturb him for long.

He paused momentarily before nodding in response as he looked over.

The moment he saw the face of the man he fought desperately with, he froze as his heart sank to the bottom.

The guilt of killing someone was no longer on his mind because of the identity of the enemy.

This person was his neighbor who had recently moved to live next to his house this year and was a pretty withdrawn person.

This fact deeply disturbed him.

If this neighbor was one of the people committing arson, then something terrible might happen to his teacher!!!
