37 Chapter 37 - A Trial? (10)

When Lucas and his team arrived, what greeted them was a screen that was messy to a certain extent.

A fire burned several houses, causing panic among the surrounding people. Not far away, some already-arrived city guards were trying to relieve the situation.

Lucas quickly led the crowd to help organize the people before asking the nearby city guard about the circumstances.

"What happened here? Where are the others?" Lucas questioned one of the city guards who had arrived before his team.

"When our team arrived, we spotted someone dressed in black, espacing from here." The city guard quickly replied. He then paused to organize his thoughts momentarily before he explained further.

"Our team leader guessed that the suspicious person he saw had artificially created the ignition here, so he led his team to chase after that person, leaving only some members behind to help facilitate the people." The city guard swiftly summarized the overall situation to Lucas.

Lucas nodded from time to time as he listened.

'It seemed that some insiders were causing trouble in the city.' With a few words from the city guard, Lucas quickly comprehended what had happened and even saw further.

If there was turmoil within the city, it might interrupt the war to defend the city. If the situation became more severe and could not be solved, the city guards on the frontier might even need to grit their teeth and send more people to support solving the crisis.

'Since the enemy is planning to attack the city from both the inside and outside, could they stop by simply causing this little problem?' Lucas considered and soon easily answered himself, 'No, they would not.'

He felt the enemies would not spend so much effort to plant a mole in the city for trivial issues; more conspiracies must happen sooner or later.

The more Lucas thought, the more headaches he felt about the current situation. He was one of the people who knew the condition of the city and understood how hard it was to break the deadlock.

Although Lucas was not optimistic about the situation, he knew he needed to decide what his team would do.

'Let's do what I could first.' Lucas sighed as he made up his mind. He planned to divide his team into a few smaller groups of one or two people to widen the scope of the patrol.

He speculated that the enemy would not move on a large scale in the city, or they would be unable to cover up their movement.

Seeing that the fire had already gone out and the people had calmed down, Lucas called and gathered everyone in the team to explain their following action.

Just as Lucas opened his mouth to tell his team about his speculation and his plan, he heard another loud disturbance sound similar to the previous explosion.

BOOOOM!

BOOOOOOOOM!!

BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

This time, three eruptions sounded out simultaneously in a row, one louder than the other.

Every city guard looked at each other in panic, not knowing what to do.

'It seemed that there were more moles inside the city, I estimated; it looked like the enemy came more prepared than I thought.' Lucas's thoughts run at a fast speed, considering the current situation and what he could do.

Lucas did not hesitate and lingered on his thoughts for long; he was currently the person with the highest seniority here and needed to decide what to do quickly.

He quickly gathered everyone here and led them to the nearest place of explosion.

...

When they arrived, Lucas quickly organized the city guards to help relieve the people and extinguish the fire using the nearby water source.

'We can't go on like this.' Lucas thought decisively. If the city guards could not catch the enemies, they would continue to cause bigger and bigger trouble.

There would be no end to the enemies' interruption in the city if they had no intention to stop.

What was happening now was the city guards were running around and busy solving the adversaries's ploys. They were far behind their adversaries and were losing the advantages they thought they had.

After alleviating the situation, he quickly divided the team and arranged for them to search different places and look for suspicious people. At least, he hoped that it could help deter the enemies and delay their action.

When he finished his arrangement, he swiftly left to consult with the city guard's captain, William, about what they should do next.

...

Theodore was busy running around, patrolling with another city guard.

Theodore looked around; the location where they were currently patrolling was somewhat near his house.

As he strode, a bad premonition emerged, and his heart sank; it felt as if something terrible would happen soon.

As if to prove his sense right, another explosion sounded not far away. Theodore looked toward the noise, and his eyes subconsciously shanked in shock.

It was the direction of his house where his teacher was!!!

Theodore hastily rushed to that location, hoping that he had just overthought and nothing would happen to his teacher, Nathan.

The other city guard looked at his teammate's anxious behavior and had no choice but to follow along. Although Theodore did not say anything, he could still guess a thing or two from Theodore's expression.

Even though what they did now could be considered a neglect of duty for personal purposes, he did not think it could affect him.

If something went wrong, he would sue Theodore for leading in disobeying the superior's order and shrink from his responsibility.

On the other hand, Theodore had no time to care what his teammate thought about him; he was more anxious about checking his teacher's situation. The rest could be worried afterward.

As he hastily ran to his house, Theodore accidentally spotted a figure wearing black clothes from top to bottom, also running in his direction.

That person in black paused slightly before rushing to Theodore with a sword in his hand; his eyes contained dense killing intent.
