35 Ice Cream Treat

After around six hours of going through the whole risky process of coronary artery bypass grafting, the patient was finally disconnected from the heart-lung machine. And after doing some careful observations and close monitoring, there were no signs of bleeding and arrhythmias. Nevertheless, the patient remained intubated and attached to a mechanical ventilator. Later on, he would be transferred to the intensive care unit for another two to three days.

The surgery was finally concluded as successful! After tossing their surgical gowns and gloves, the team proceeded to the long dining table for their late lunch. The primary surgeon was giving the whole surgical team this treat.

While everyone was grabbing their meal boxes hurriedly as they were starving already, Jim retreated to a far corner. He picked up his phone and called up Jia.

"Jia, I'm done with the surgery. Could you and baby please pick me up in thirty minutes? I promised him an ice cream treat, or else he would not allow me to sleep tonight!"

"Okay!"

"Bye, sweetheart. See you in a while." A handsome curve twisted in both corners of his mouth.

This scene did not escape from the team's eyes. When he finally followed them to the dining room, they all broke up into teasing him again.

"Doc Jim! Why do you have to get to a walker first before learning to fall in love?".

"I have never seen those sparks before, doc! And it is just so cute!"

"Did I tell all of you that I saw Dr.Jim kissing a pretty woman in the car this morning?"

At the corner of the table, a woman was eating silently. She stole glances at Jim once in a while. Then, at the peak of the teasing, she gave out thin smiles, catching the attention of another staff.

"Dr. Grace, what's up? You seemed to be not joining the fun. Why?"

She was startled, never expecting she would be the next victim. But she was quick to give a forced smile.

"It's because I'm hurting. Why not me, Dr. Jim? " She may sound joking because she laughed afterward, but it was a hundred percent truth.

The team exploded into another round of laughter.

After the last strain of laughter subsided, Jim finally spoke up.

"Excuse me, guys. Got to go. My lady is already waiting outside."

He did not wait for any answer. Then, after a second, the door at the end of the dining room flung open and closed, leaving all eyes fastened to his back.

Somebody was left out with a bleeding heart!

Jia was already in front of the ER when he stepped out. Jian was happily waving while calling out his name. He went to him first for a sweet hug and kiss and then went to the driver's seat. He opened the door, gave her lips a quick claim, and then pulled her out gently by the arm.

"It's my turn to drive."

Jia hesitated for a while but got out eventually. As she walked around to the other side, all of those who secretly followed Jim saw her in a tight, mini white dress!

On the ice cream house later, while they were occupied with Jim's updates about the surgery, his phone rang. Jia couldn't help but frown. She promptly guessed that it would be a woman, and she wasn't wrong --  a woman's instinct.

It was Dr. Grace again. As if sensing her reaction, Jim turned on the speaker again for Jia to hear.

"Dr. Jim, I just wanna confirm. Is it true?"

Jim, who was blind to her craziness, got confused.

"What's being true?" he asked.

"About your woman."

"The woman you said is my wife. I'm with her and our son right now in an ice cream house," he answered, chuckling.

"Daddy," Jian suddenly butted in.
