25 Chapter 24: A temporary home

Author's note: I know I was missing for a few days and we are behind the schedule but don't worry. I will upload daily for a few days to bring the schedule back on track.

*** Kar-el P.O.V.

Once Neighbors returned to their homes, there were still at least 6 people remaining with us.

James and carol returned to their home parallel to Tania's home with Carol's mother while I followed the remaining 5 people inside the house with Tania.

Tania clearly had a colorful family with her mom and youngest sister being white while and an African American brother who most likely was no more than a year younger than her and last but not least, a pair of twin sisters of my current age.

*** Inside the dining room

Currently, I was sitting at the table while the rest observed me from across the table. Tania and her mom were inside another room where they discussed what happened on the trip.

" What is your name? " The youngest asked me quite frankly while drinking juice from the glass.

"Molly, What did I teach you?" The only male of the family admonished her while narrowing his eyes at her.

She looked down for a moment while muttering a sorry before replying to him," It is basic decency to introduce yourself first before asking for someone's name."

He nodded at that. She again turned to me as she opened her mouth," Hi, I'm Molly, and you?"

"Hi, I'm Karl " I replied while copying her way of speaking. She clearly had a rebellious nature like kara because she looked annoyed that I copied her tone.

'It will be fun teasing her ' I thought as I smirked while she quickly finished her drink before exiting the room.

"Hello Karl, I'm Daniel and these two are Ella and Emma. " Daniel introduced himself and others with a confident gait that a good leader had in himself.

I just nodded to them before silence returned in the room.

I know I should say something but I was not a good conversation starter from my days of krypton. I was fine talking when needed but when it came to starting a random topic, I was not good enough. I blame the environment I stayed in on krypton for this because on krypton I was mostly alone or even when I was with someone, I would usually only converse when needed because that was the norm there.

Before the silence get awkward more, thankfully Molly returned in the toe with tania and her mother.

As soon as she entered the room, she looked at me and nodded her head before speaking," Karl, right? You can stay here as long as you pay the rent. Considering your current financial state, I can waive the first-month rent while you think of a way to pay the rent. "

" Mom, I was wondering if he could work as a guard during your expenditure? He is capable of protecting you and your co-workers in times of need. " Tania said as soon as her mother finished speaking.

" Tania, " She sighed before continuing," Dear, I can't appoint him just because he is capable of it, things are not so simple as you think. There is a procedure that even I have to follow. "

" No worries ma'am, even giving me a month is enough for me. I will return this kind gesture with equal value in the future." I interjected between them as I stood up.

" No need for that, It is the least that I could do for my daughter's Rescuer. " She turned to

Daniel, " Go and show him one of the rooms reserved for guests. "

He nodded at her before signaling me to follow him as he lead me inside the house.

The room was well taken care of and could be used without any extra preparations.

I thanked him before he excused himself.

While there was not much stuff inside the room, it had the necessities needed for someone to reside in. A table, a bed, a cabinet, and a shelf for small stuff.

Thankfully it also had enough space for a computer as well as some other stuff once I could afford them.

**** Third person point of view.

" He looked uncomfortable with us around him, " Daniel remarked while walking to the dishwasher and starting it.

Mila signed as she looked at the chair Karl was sitting on before patting her youngest child, " You can't blame him for that. He lost his family and ended up on the streets so he would definitely be uncomfortable around a family because it reminds him of his own. "

" What should we do then, mom?" Emma turned to her sister and got a nod of encouragement before she took a step in front while asking her mom.

" Just try to behave like you all always behaved. You must remember that you guys didn't need to get accused to be around him, it's the exact opposite. He needs to be accused to be living in our environment. " She looked around the room before sighing as she addressed her children.

Life had not been pretty for her children and it made them kind toward another one of their kind. Sometimes, she felt sad that she was not present from the start with them.

She never married because of all the violence and fights she witnessed while growing up. She wandered from place to place, never staying at one place in her youth because she felt if she stayed then she would be trapped until one eventful day when she met the first of these children.

Her mother didn't want her because of her financial crisis while her father never showed up and most likely ran away once he get the news about her, Tania was an innocent soul in all of that.

She was self-sufficient at that time and could afford to adopt the child who would likely suffer in her childhood if she hadn't adopted her.

Since then, One by one the family kept on growing until what it was now.

Her children exited the room to return to their rooms or outside the house to visit their friends while she was left alone.

She shook her head as she fixed the chairs.

Honestly speaking, she was thinking of adopting Karl too but she wanted to wait for a while and judge if its worth the effort.

Unlike her other children, Karl was self-sufficient in his way, and most importantly, he was highly skilled in weaponry and fighting which didn't present a good outlook of his background.

She wanted to see for herself if inside this tough shell there was a person worth including in the family otherwise he would stay as a paying guest.

**** Kar-el P.O.V.

I squirmed in the bed as I tried to sleep but a certain thought kept bugging me after I was left alone.

' Was it right coming here? I got a great bargain by coming here but was it worth it?

This family, this neighborhood is not something I should be associate myself with because it would only bring trouble for them.'

I thought as I looked at the ceiling after admitting defeat that I would not be getting any sleep currently.

' It is fine right now but once my powers get completely activated and I get enrolled in the bigger picture, these people would suffer because, for my enemies, they would appear as weak targets that might affect me. '
