This World

"I was told by the time I understood what I was my life would be over." I now truly understand what those words mean and how I'm supposed to fight back. But let's start with what I remember.

It was a warm gray spring night 6 years ago where no stars could be seen the nobleman's manner, no one knew at the time but "my life" was about to change. I was doing what I always did which was working digging for copper just like the rest of the male slaves, for some reason I could hear a strange rustling sound coming from deep within the woods. I looked to my older brother who was 20 feet away from me doing just as I did everyday for the past 6 years. Seeing as we were coming upon hour 12 of work I disregarded it as a sign of exhaustion and continued to dig as the day didn't end until you were able to bring back at least one piece of copper. As I was nearing the end of my digging I heard,

Whoosh!

It was as if a someone fired a magic arrow at me. Yet when I turned around I couldn't believe what or should I say who was standing before me. An elf but she had the legs of an animal?

"Run!" The unknown elf woman screamed as if trying to liberate our souls. As if her scream it self carried magic power the cursed chains that were keeping us bound to our master were now disintegrating turning to nothing but ash upon the dirt. My older brother started running to me with tears in his eyes as if to say now we are really free. Although as if the Chosen themselves did not approve of this act lightning so bright I had to shut my eyes struck where my older brother and our savior were just standing. I cried out when I was able to open my eyes from the light again.

"No don't die, don't leave me!" I pleaded with not solely with my older brother who was the only family I had but also with this unknown woman who had not even 2 minutes ago saved not only my life but all of the slaves here.

I thought we were lucky as to how she was standing outside a giant smoking crater, where the lighting just struck. Even the noblemans manner was not spared from the devastating act of the Chosen. That's when I realized my brother was nowhere to be seen. On the inside I began to panick wondering if I'll ever see my lone family member again. My mind began to race so fast and then as fast as it started my brain started to shut down and all I could think was I no longer had any place to be me. My savior with a sigh of relief after avoiding the lighting bolt began making her way over to me whilst I was on the verge of a breakdown.

The elf woman then said as if I could hear the sympathy in her voice. "Your brother was a hero he pushed me out of the way to save me and now I will honor him by fulfilling what would've been his final request. I will now take you from this awful place and train you to take back not only your country, but whole world."

As if rendering everything she just said to be useless the clouds in the dark gray sky started swirling and creating lighting of their own. Without stopping for an instant the lightning of the clouds started taking shape as if in the form of a human. After another bright light burst through the dark gray sky having me shield my eyes once again. As my vision began to correct itself I happened to peer upon a tall blue figure surrounded by lightning as he himself was lightning. Without and ounce of hesitation in the mysterious blue figure's body he fired another bolt of lightning this time striking the elven woman who had saved my life.

Boom!

Crackle!

The ground once again was smoking and charred. While my savior was able to doge half the lightning attack it still had struck half her body, leaving it somewhat charred and smoking itself.

"I'm... fine." She struggling said as she was losing the strength to stand coughing up some blood with the end of her words.

As her body was swaying I took the time to catch her and put her heavily injured body onto my back to start to runaway from this Chosen like entity. His attention wasn't on me as he was solely focused on the elf woman who was on my back. As soon as I felt it's deathly gaze upon me I took off running for the only escape I could think of the bridge to the west. I started looking back thinking I dropped her only I realized she was still on my back yet she surprisingly had little weight to her body becoming lighter by the second. For my age I was always one of the shortest yet she made me feel giant. Never even considering what would happen to me should I get caught. Sprinting though the woods absorbed in thought about how to save both their lives.

Suddenly a bolt of lighting crashed right down onto our only way of escape the bridge. Dropping to my knees thinking that this is the end I started sinking into a depression thinking my brother may have given his life for nothing. As if she could hear my thoughts she reached her out toward my face placing her small fragile looking hand upon it.

Speaking out softly she whispered "I will now grant you the power to take control of your destiny but you need to learn to use it safely and make it your own."

As if I was being enveloped by a glowing warm feeling, it was as if it was altering my body itself I started to scream and cry from the pain until it just stopped and all I saw was black.

Hearing cries deep from within the forest next to their home a little girl signaled to her mother yelling "Mommy, Mommy we have to help them."

Her mother then looking down to her slightly sighed at the prospect of nothing being there and it just being her daughters imagination. So she agreed just to appease her daughter. "Hopefully this won't be for nothing." She whispered to herself.

The glowing in the sky signaled to the figure made of pure lightning that its job was done. Now looking upon the carnage with a smile it began to disperse as if it was never here in the first place. Leaving all that came through those woods baffled at what could've happened to such a wonderful scenery.
