1 Ch 1: Just Another Day

It started like any other day. Jason woke to the buzzing alarm of his phone, stumbled sleepily to the shower, and got dressed into his work clothes.

With a mumbled, "'Morning," to his grandma, he lazily walked into the kitchen.

"How was your sleep pumpkin?" Grandma questioned him while she was serving the toast.

"Didn't get much sleep last night." He replied while grabbing the glass of milk she had prepared. He then brought his wrist up to look at the time and nearly choked.

"Is that really the time?!"

"I'm gonna be late for work!!"

He rushed around the counter to give his grandma a kiss on the cheek.

"Don't forget to eat some breakfast on your way out." She told him while pointing at the toast on the counter.

"Don't worry, I won't."

He quickly wolfed a piece of toast down and ran out the door, while also pocketing an apple from the basket on the way out.

"Bye Grandma, see you when I get back home." And with that Jason McCoy was off.

He made his way to the bus-stop, just in time to meet the metro-bus before it left.

Still in a half-fog, Jason dragged his feet as he found his usual seat by the emergency exit. Slumping against the cold bus window, he thought he might steal a few minutes' sleep on the way to work.

At that moment, though, the driver slammed on the brakes heavily, swerving off the road to one side. All the passengers, including Jason, were thrown out of their seats. In no time, the bus went off the road and fell into a ditch.

When Jason regained his bearings, he noticed there were loud cries everywhere. Wherever he looked, he saw many passengers were either badly wounded or not moving at all.

Jason then felt warm liquid running down the back of his neck. He had gotten a deep gash on his skull, and it was not showing any signs of slowing down.

The people around Jason tried to bandage his head as best they could, but it was no use. He was already starting to black out.

In his last moments, he looked up to the sky, and saw and object coming ever so close.

"Is that a truck?"

With that, his world went black. And just like so, Jason's ordinary day had just ended.
