Something In The Way

Barry and Danny arrived back through the back of his house. Elaine, who was guarding the back of the house, immediately told Anna to deactivate her Fortification so that they could get in.

As soon as they entered, Barry and Danny immediately said what they had wanted to say for a long time.

"We have to get as far away as possible now," said Barry.

"We knew that would happen. So we already packed our stuff and yours," Elaine replied.

Barry sighed when he heard Anna's reply. Luckily, they could think quickly.

"That's great. Let's get going!" Danny said.

They immediately took their stuff into the car and truck. Barry took a glance one more time at his house. The place where he grew up and grew up is now nothing more than an abandoned building.

There was a feeling of sadness in Barry's heart. But then again, in the midst of a situation like this, there is almost no way they can stay in one place for a long time. Monsters and zombies keep coming and they have to keep looking for places and ways to survive.

"Let's go, Barry!"

Elaine's voice brought Barry out of his stupor. He nodded toward her and walked away from his former house.

Elaine started the car and they drove off into the dark night.

Barry still looked gloomy. Then she turned to Elaine who was driving. She must have felt something like she felt right now when she left her house.

'I have to stop thinking about that house!'

Barry shouted to himself inside his head. Forcing his feelings of sadness to leave so that he is willing to accept the reality that is now happening.

"We're going straight to Bunker Alpha?" Elaine asked.

Barry didn't answer immediately and thought for a moment. Then he said. "Yes. We have to go to Bunker Alpha. That is our only goal now."

Victoria behind them just listened while making herself look smaller. She even wanted to go into the shadows if she could, trying to make Barry and Elaine unaware of her presence.

'It's okay. They don't look evil like Bran and his friends.'

A voice sounded in Victoria's head. It was none other than her own voice which seemed to stand as another person inside her head.

The voice was her only friend who accompanied her through the cruel abuse she received in the group she was in before.

But, Victoria didn't believe that voice. She is sure that these people are not evil, they just haven't shown it yet.

'When I finally make a mistake they will start to hit me.'

Now that the whole group is dead, he must follow these people if he wants to survive. Especially when the world has become like this.

"You okay?" Barry turned his head and asked Victoria.

Because it was so sudden, Victoria jumped and let out a small gasp.

"Y-Yes. I'm fine," answered Victoria.

Her behavior made Barry frown. He said. "We won't hurt you. Don't be afraid of us, alright?"

"Y-yes." Victoria nodded. 'They said that too.'

Somehow, Barry could see that Victoria was only saying what he wanted to hear. Barry knows that she doesn't believe that they won't hurt her.

Barry let out a sigh. 'Maybe that's enough. I just need her to make the potion, right?'

Barry tried to push that thought to the back of his mind. He didn't have enough energy to worry about Victoria right now. There is still a possibility that they will encounter the black thing.

They ride the car at a higher speed than they should. Barry tells Elaine that they have to take that risk so they can avoid what is behind them. And Elaine decided to trust him.

Behind them, Danny also drives their truck with Anna quickly. But his burden became bigger because he had to look back to see if the black thing was following them.

They were almost out of that city a few minutes later. At this time they can finally feel a little bit calmer because they feel they are a little faster than the black thing.

*DUKKK!*

Suddenly their car hit something in front and stopped completely. Behind them, there was the sound of tires scraping the ground due to sudden braking.

"What is it?" Barry asked Elaine worriedly.

"I... I don't know. Suddenly I hit something and couldn't move forward," replied Elaine.

Barry stared ahead. He didn't see anything blocking the way even though it felt like they had just hit a solid wall.

"Wait here." Barry got out of the car carrying his sword.

Danny got out of his truck. "What happened?" he asked.

"I don't know. We hit something. I'll check it now. You don't need to go with me yet," Barry replied.

Danny nodded and stood guard in his truck.

Barry walked closer to the front of the car. He frowned when he saw that the light from the car lights seemed to hit something transparent in front of him.

He approached and stretched his hands forward. Barry was shocked. His hand hit something solid even though his eyes didn't see anything.

'What the...'

Barry approached the direction where the car lights were shining. It is indeed highlighting something transparent. Like a wall of energy.

A wall of energy that blocks them from leaving the city.

"Oh, fuck..."

Barry knew that they were really fucked now. They are trapped between a black monster that absorbs everything to create its new body, and a transparent wall of energy that won't let them out.
