Regulus Maximillian is an ordinary young man who lives alone in the studio apartment he rents with the rest of his savings. He just graduated from college and is currently a training employee at a company. Daily, he is often called Max. His days are normal and boring, but everything changes when his country is hit by a zombie outbreak so that more than half of the human population turns into vicious zombies that infect healthy people. A strange system appears for everyone to find out the level, strength, and ability of people and also to be more careful with Zombies who also have different levels, and for some reason, Max's system is a little strange. He can see everyone's system, even though he shouldn't be able to because their abilities are kept secret from each other. Max can also see various vital points to finish off the zombies. Not only that, Max can see a map of the entire city, the location of the supermarket to the whereabouts of the zombies, and also knows a lot of tricks that the system only tells him. And he also gets various kinds of privileges. Especially for him and his mother. From this plague, Max joined many people from various tribes and regions. Many foreign nationals were also trapped in the metropolis when the Zombie outbreak occurred. Max's life, who was previously just an ordinary man, suddenly became a man with the greatest ability among the remaining humans thanks to his sudden special ability he got. Will Max survive amid a sea of Zombies? Or just become one of those crazy Zombies? And, why were Max and his Mother's System different from everyone else?
"WHERE DID YOU PUT THAT YOUR BRAIN?! Is this the only thing you can do in two days?" snapped a man in his forties, shaking a thick file in his hand.
"I'm sorry, sir."
Although the work given is very much and the deadline is too short, the man who is often called Max has no other choice but to keep bowing his body to apologize. Whatever happens, your boss is always right. That's an invisible rule for the world of workers, especially for trainee employees like himself.
"Duh, I'm so sorry for Max. Even though his work is good, his way of thinking is smart, and his attitude is also friendly to everyone, still, the Head of Division always takes out his frustration on Max." Several regular employees who watched the incident whispered, they were sorry to see Max being scolded by their superiors.
"Yes, anyone would think the same. Max does a good job, in contrast to the Head of Division, the distended one can only get angry and enslave new employees," continued another employee.
"Poor Max," is what people always say.
For some illogical reason, Max was made the target of the Division Head's most severe tantrums. In the opinion of the seniors at his place of work, Max was handsome, smart, and had an athletic body, everything looked perfect, so maybe the Head of Division was jealous and tortured Max on purpose, humiliating him so people wouldn't praise Max anymore.
BOOM!
DUARRR!!
The sound of an explosion suddenly sounded loud. The Division Head, who had been angry before, immediately stopped his tirade and stared at Max sharply.
"Did you hear that sound?" asked Tom—the division head.
"I heard that sir. There seems to be an explosion around here" Max replied in a calm tone.
Tom sighed, "the point is you have to re-do this report, tomorrow morning at eight you have to give it to me. Got that?"
"Sorry, sir. But I didn't sleep at all for two days to finish that report, how is it possible that today until tomorrow morning I can finish a new one again?" replied Max. He was tired, and Tom never accepted the fruits of his labor no matter how hard Max tried.
"So you won't?" Tom growled. "You're not afraid of being fired, are you? You don't need a job anymore, huh?"
Max gritted his teeth, if asked if he needed a job or not, of course, he really needed it. But Max couldn't take it anymore, even just to stand up straight now his body was having a hard time because he didn't sleep at all and consumed a lot of caffeine, he also only ate a few slices of bread for the past two days to save time to compile his work report.
"Sir, I..."
Max just opened his mouth to answer, but his body uncontrollably collapsed onto the floor.
BUGH!
Max's body lay with a pale face and eyes closed.
"MAX!!!" His work seniors screamed, who had only been watching outside the glass door of the Division Head's room.
Regardless of the Division Leader's surprise, several men lifted Max's body.
"Oh my, Max..." The female senior stared at Max with teary eyes, unable to bear to see this young man working until he fainted from exhaustion.
*****
Max opened his eyes slowly and found himself in a white room with several curtains covering the sides. He sat up and looked down at his infused hand.
"Hospital fees..." Max muttered softly. Even at a time like this, he still had to worry about the hospital fees he would have to pay later.
"Is the kid awake yet?" asked a male voice that Max recognized very well.
"Let's check first, sir."
Two nurses drew aside the curtains beside Max, behind which Tom and some of his co-workers could be seen.
"The patient is tired, sir. It looks like he's not getting enough rest, he's stressed, and he's not eating too much," the nurse explained Max's condition.
"Max, you still feeling dizzy?" asked one of the women who came with Tom.
"No. Thanks for bringing me here," Max replied.
"If you can't work hard, you don't need to work. Don't just give people a hard time!" Tom quipped sarcastically. He didn't like the young man because many women in their Division complimented Max.
"I-"
"You're fired, there's no need to continue your training period anymore, your performance is bad. Just two days overtime and you've fainted like this," Tom interrupted impatiently.
Max's eyes widen, he struggled to get a job after the Flu-45 virus that happened last year, and now he's even fired?
"Tomorrow you don't need to come to work, just pick up your things." Tom immediately turned his steps away leaving Max who was still sitting stiffly on the hospital bed.
"Max, be patient," said the seniors, stroking Max's shoulders to encourage their juniors.
"Thank you, guys."
Max desperately held back his tears. Well, consider him a crybaby. But, losing a job with the position of having a mother that he has to live in another city is not easy. Not to mention the cost of living in the capital city, a big city with all the expensive things.
"We'll go home first, OK, Max? We've helped pay for the hospital fees until you leave this afternoon, don't worry. Keep in contact with us, OK? We're all still friends no matter what happens," said Riana, a senior who cares the most for Max because has a younger brother who is the same age, which is 23 years.
"Take care, Riana. Thanks for everything," Max forced himself to keep smiling.
It's a really unlucky life. Since birth, his mother has worked hard to support both of them in the village so Max can graduate from college, but after graduating he has had a hard time getting a job.
"Nurse, can I go home already?" asked Max, walking unsteadily.
"Yes, sir. If you have any complaints of dizziness or anything else, please come again. Be careful, sir." The nurse answered kindly.
Max won't go to the hospital even if he's still sick, because he knows hospital fees are expensive.
