16 Their Deaths

It was seven in the evening when Li Ruyan was awakened by someone shaking her shoulders. Her eyes blinked lazily after being woken up. At first, everything was blurry and she squinted, trying to make out the unidentified figure infront of her.

She did not know how long she had fallen asleep but she was aware that she got exhausted from crying too much and ended up sleeping. Li Ruyan was emotionally tired and because she did not sleep well last night, her body was quick to shut itself down, forcing her to a dreamless sleep.

But now, who was this person that was disturbing her beauty sleep?

"Li Ruyan, wake up." The voice said, clearing all the hazy thoughts in her mind as a warm hand caressed her cheek. It was a man's hand. A familiar hand. She knew that hand. Blinking once, she saw the familiar face of Min Yue, who was affectionately looking at her.

Li Ruyan did not say anything and was wondering if she was dreaming.

Was this real?

She felt that this kind of scene would only appear in her dreams now since she clearly remembered that Min Yue broke up with her and that he was engaged to that Miss Yang whose name was Yang Shiwei.

She also remembered telling her that he was doing it for their future together.

Li Ruyan frowned.

For a second, she wanted to close her eyes again and go back to sleep. This scene looked too good to be true. If what happened yesterday night did not occur, she would still be inclined to believe that the Min Yue infront of her who was treating her gently like usual was real and not a fragment of her imagination.

Not exactly in the right state of mind, Li Ruyan decided to close her eyes, her muscles and limbs felt heavy. She did not want to face anyone right now and she did not want to deal with this illusion infront of her.

Since her boss graciously allowed her to leave early from work, she would take advantage of it and rest well.

However, the same voice and the same figure thwarted her plans and continued to speak with her, wanting her to wake up.

"Li Ruyan, open your eyes." The voice called.

By this time, her sleepiness was now gone and she sat up, pushing the hands that were touching her. She turned to Min Yue, who was the real deal with a blank look on her face as if asking him what he wanted.

Min Yue's lips twitched, probably because he has never seen her treat him so coldly like this as if he was a stranger, an outsider who had no connections with him. She looked at him as if he was someone that did not spend the last four years with her, not including the time that they were on their courtship stage which would be equivalent to five years now.

He reached out to touch her hands in which she avoided, keeping her expression the same.

"CEO Min, what are you doing inside my apartment? Do you realize that this can be considered trespassing? I did not permit you to enter my home or my room." Li Ruyan told him, moving out of the bed to stand up.

He did not immediately reply to her. He seemed to be processing her words and thinking about how to deal with her.

CEO Min.

Min Yue was not used to being called this way by her. The woman infront of him possesses a strong character but she was very doting and caring towards him that she would always speak in a soft and sweet tone. She'd call him 'Yue' in her angelic tone and like a captive, he was thoroughly captured by it.

Sometimes, even though he was pampering her, he still felt that he was the one being pampered because she would always put in all her best efforts into making him happy and content.

No one understood him better except for her but he was not being entirely truthful which was why he ended up hurting her and caused this misunderstanding.

Min Yue lowered his eyes. He never wanted to hurt her. She was the only good thing that ever happened to him ever since his mother and sister were murdered. If Li Ruyan hadn't come to his life, he would still be the same rebellious and suicidal teenager.

He stood up and calmly embraced her from behind, placing his chin on her shoulders.

"I'm sorry. I've hurt you deeply." He told her in a soft tone. To be forgiven was the last thing he was expecting because he had not told her the whole truth of the matter. He covered her mouth when he sensed that she was going to scold him.

"Yanyan, I'm sorry... I did not tell you about my plans because I did not want to involve you with the danger ahead."

Li Ruyan was very quiet as she patiently listened to him, speaking his lines.

"Do you still remember about my mother and my sister? I told you that they died and that their deaths were the reason why I could not live on."

Li Ruyan remembered him mentioning this. When she first encountered him, he was covered in bruises and life-threatening injuries. When she went to help and clean his body, she saw the numerous scars on his wrists.

Her eyes became dull when she saw them. It spooked her at first but she also felt pity and told herself that she would help him overcome this. He was still young and promising. Why would he give up his life so easily? Li Ruyan eventually became his pillar of support and she comforted him, helping him rebuild himself.

Eventually, he told her that the day she found him was the day he heard the news about his mother and sister's death. They were the only beloved family that treated him well and were genuine to him. Now that the most important people in his life were gone, Min Yue felt it hard to continue living.

If not for Li Ruyan, he would have never picked himself up and learn to embrace life again.
