8 I Am A Single Woman

Li Ruyan was inside her car. She was looking at her phone, staring and waiting. Just a single beep sound would have made her happy and yet her phone remained strangely silent without any notifications.

"He didn't even call or sent me a text..." Li Ruyan said bitterly. She almost wanted to laugh at how pitiful she was as she waited for Min Yue's explanation that didn't look like it was coming.

Why had he played with her? Did he only want her body? So just because he had tasted her, he would now move on and get himself engaged with another woman behind her back? Why wait for years when he could have any women he wants?

Li Ruyan could have accepted it if he had told her that he no longer loved her three months ago and that he had already found someone else to love. Sure, she would cry and feel hurt that he was dumping her and maybe drown herself in alcohol for a few days but atleast he had been honest with her and had told her his reason. She would survive the heartbreak or atleast pretend to survive.

However, this was different. This was far from what Li Ruyan expected. Not only was she made a fool but she was actually the third party since her boyfr--her ex-boyfriend was now engaged to that Miss Yang.

Li Ruyan looked at the cake box that PA Ren left. He seemed to have forgotten to give her the watch back but Li Ruyan could not give a care at the moment. She had been inside her car that was parked just outside the restaurant for a good two hours now. It was past ten in the evening.

She looked very tired but she refused to let her tears fall. This was unbecoming of her. She would not humiliate herself like that.

Li Ruyan started to drive back to her apartment. She grabbed the cake box and fished out the keys to her door, opening it and entering.

Once she was inside the comfort of her apartment, Li Ruyan stood still and inhaled deeply, closing her eyes for a few seconds, trying to calm her raging emotions that had been causing havoc in her heart.

She pressed the lights on and went to the kitchen, placing the cake box on the table. She opened it and saw the beautifully decorated cake and the 'Happy 23rd Birthday' written using icing.

Today was Min Yue's birthday and their four-year anniversary as a couple.

She looked at the cake as if it was a joke before grabbing a knife and taking out a slice. She would not waste food. No matter how unsightly this thing looks right now, she would atleast take a bite on the cake she worked hard to make. She'd packed the rest in separate boxes and give it to her colleagues tomorrow when she goes to work.

Her boss likes sweets so much, he'd be happy to monopolize a few slices to himself.

Li Ruyan had sat down and taken a bite when he heard footsteps behind her. She turned to the sound and was not expecting a familiar person to appear inside her home.

"What are you doing here?" Li Ruyan asked without emotion, grabbing a tissue and wiping her lips that were stained with icing.

Min Yue approached her and grabbed her hand, taking the tissue away and placing a kiss on her lips.

Li Ruyan raised her hand to slap him but he was quicker than her and held both of her hands. She struggled against him and finally, managed to decide to bite hard on his lips. He hissed, stopping the kiss and letting her go.

Min Yue wiped the blood on his mouth and gazed at her bitterly as if he expected her to do just that. Li Ruyan looked at him with unkind eyes.

"You shouldn't be here. Go home." Li Ruyan repeated his words to him which made Min Yue's eyes narrow.

"Min Yue, I am telling you to go home right now. Don't make me repeat myself." She continued to say, distancing himself from him.

Min Yue started to laugh but it wasn't a joyful laugh. He laughed darkly and glared at her.

"Li Ruyan, you really have a lot of guts now. You even dared to hook up with my assistant when you are already in a relationship!"

"What relationship? I'm not in a relationship. I am a single woman and if I want to hook up with someone, that is none of your business. Leave my house, CEO Min. You are trespassing."

"Li Ruyan, are you trying to make me angry?" Min Yue yelled, his shoulders shaking.

Li Ruyan looked at him the same way he looked at her before, like a stranger. She looked at the wall clock in her kitchen and saw that it was thirteen past eleven. A few more minutes and their anniversary and his birthday would be over.

She smiled at this.

"CEO Min, didn't you break up with me? Why are you being angry? Wasn't it you who introduced me as your ex-girlfriend to your fiancée? Miss Yang is so beautiful. You two are so good together. CEO Yang loves his daughter so much and marrying her would bring CEO Min a lot of benefits and connections."

"Li Ruyan, stop talking before you make me angry. I don't want to hear this coming from you."

She ignored him. "I forgot to congratulate CEO Min in his engagement. I should have prepared a gift. CEO Min will have to excuse me since I only found out just now but rest assured, I will prepare a gift worthy of CEO Min's image and name. CEO Min won't be disappointed!" Li Ruyan yelped when he grabbed her shoulders and placed her against the wall, his dark eyes glaring at her as if daring her to continue any further.

"CEO Min that. CEO this. Since when have you called me using that title? Li Ruyan, you sounded so different while we were in bed. This is not how you treat me. Didn't you like to call me 'Yue.' What happened to that?" Min Yue taunted, making her cheeks go red. That was a low blow.

"Ah, of course, anyone who was lost in the moment would say all kinds of nonsense. CEO Min also said a lot of nonsense. Don't take the words said in the bedroom so seriously."
