"And that's why we're leaving tomorrow!" said the candy thief.

"You want me to join some inter school contest?" I asked in surprise. Apparently we didn't have the fame that the world's only institute of necromancy deserved.

But I had only learned the basics...how did this place manage to qualify as a school with just 1 student? I groaned.

"That's the spirit!" he grinned. "Since you're so eager, let's go now!"

"Wha-"

A raven grasping a screaming hamster flew into the night sky.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The city of Tarzha.

A beautiful place, filled with friendly residents. Even their economy was booming. A true hub of tourism, and the regular location of the annual Interschool Tournament.

Needless to say, demon cult members such as my teacher and I experienced some difficulty getting in.

The guard looked at us without hiding his disgust.

"No entry for filthy demons", he spat.

"Not fair!" yelled the madman. "You let that fatty in, and who knows when he last cleaned his-"

"Leave", said the guard emphatically. The Dark Lord sighed and tapped him on the head. The guard's eyes crossed briefly and he looked up.

"Sir Arthur! What an honour it is to meet you!" he said joyfully. "And your squire, yes? Please, come in, heroes need no walls in this city."

As we walked past, I gazed with some pity upon the man who believed sincerely that we were the holy knights who saved the city from a wicked necromancer a year ago.

My teacher left me once we got to a restaurant-something about an old favour-and I ordered a drink while we waited.

"Is anyone sitting here?" came a voice from beside me. I shook my head.

A cheerful child sat across from me. "Hi!" he said. "My name is Min Yan Wan. What's yours?"

Wait, his name was Minion One? What kind of moron had this kind of naming sense?

"It's Pe- no, call me Gray Twan", I said to play along.

"OK! Are you here for the big contest? I don't know your uniform."

I looked down at my tattered cowled cloak. "It's a Dark school."

"Whazzat?" he asked, confused.

I grinned mischievously. It was time to start acting the part.

"It's a really strong school with a very interesting teacher." Insanity was 'interesting' and the nutter's house was made of some weird obsidian material.

"Whoa" he said. "Can I join?"

"Maybe", I said, "if you have the skill-"

"Who is this kid?" asked a familiar voice. I sighed.

"This is Min. He just-"

"Is that the teacher?" the child interjected.

I nodded sadly and Min's eyes gleamed with wonder.

"Sir, can I join your school?"

"Oh, yes, absolutely!" he said with a nasty, hastily disguised grin. "Well done, Petey m'boy" he whispered under his breath.

"Really??"

"Yes. How good are you now?" Lord Candy asked.

"He's a child, genius", I grumbled. "He's barely old enough to walk in a straight line."

Suddenly I felt a tremor and spun around. Min's eyes were glowing as chairs began to float around him.

The madman exclaimed cheerfully, "You were right! He IS a child genius!"
