System (1)

(Monday 2nd June 2050}

(Time: 16:25)

"Huh, what is this?" Fabian Diya muttered in a semi-conscious state. "Shouldn't I be dead?" he murmured. He gulped. A chill ran up his spine when he thought back to the horrifying events. He grabbed his phone and froze when he saw the date:

"Monday 2nd June 2050?" He thought. "Exactly 24 hours before I got... taken away" He shivered when he said the words. He rubbed his eyes and his attention quickly turned to the translucent window that had opened up in front of him.

[The Apocalypse has finally arrived!]

[Fabian Diya is given {System} x1]

The shock made him fall back in surprise. "Holy…" he cried as he fell. He hit his head on the small table.

*Crash*

"Ah, F*ck that hurts!" he groaned.

Fabian was taken aback by the overwhelming amount of information. He shut his eyes, freaked out by the messages. "Why is there so much going on. He vacantly watched the notification synchronize with the sound.

[Undead System Initiated]

"System?!" Fabian read the words with wide eyes. "No way in hell this is real!" he muttered, wincing and rubbing his head. But the strange phenomenon did catch his interest. He licked his lips and stared at the screen with awe. His heart beat faster and his adrenaline was pumping with each new notification. The fear of the unknown had aroused his curiosity.

Suddenly, the notifications stopped. A blinding white light appeared around him, obscuring his vision. The sudden change only brought fear and confusion.

He felt his body change slightly. He felt a sharp pain as he felt his bones grow larger and strengthen. He looked into the mirror and saw a taller, more confident version of himself staring back at him. The freckles which he always disliked had disappeared, and his hair, which used to be too long and scruffy was neatly combed to one side. He saw the color return to his face, a sign of good health.

He smiled when he saw the perfect appearance of himself. "Is this a dream?!" he thought, mesmerized by the sudden change in his appearance. "No, this is real…" he whispered moments later. Fabian wasn't able to comprehend the sudden change in his life.

"What more can this thing do?!" he thought, excited.

As soon as he said this, the System Window disappeared in its place, and a larger screen appeared.

"Cool!" he whispered, carefully analyzing the prodigious amount of information that had appeared in front of him. "So much information..." he said in a haze. After five minutes of reading and understanding the text, a frown crept up his face. "Huh, what is there a [Control] stat why is there no number in it?" he pondered.

He quickly disregarded the empty [Control] and moved on to the other stats. "It's like playing an VRMMORPG!" he thought, crossing his arms. He felt as if he was part of a fantasy movie or a novel but he knew that this was real.

Moments after, Fabian noticed another button next to the {Stats} section.

"What does this do?" he thought, pressing the {Skills} section. He felt like a small child discovering a strange new phenomenon. The screen changed once more, this time, showing him a list of words with descriptions underneath:

[Skills Page]

"Interesting..." Fabian muttered, a tingling sensation of pride rose inside of him. After that, Fabian became fanatical about the System. He spent many hours exploring the different things that it was able to do...

[2 hours until the Apocalypse...]

The notification awoke Fabian from his slumber. When he opened his eyes, he was surprised to see that he had fallen asleep on the floor, his head resting against the wall. He became motionless when his phone vibrated followed by a chime.

He glowered when he saw the time. "9:00am!" he thought.

*Sigh*

"Oh God, I forgot about that!" he muttered, slamming his fists on the table. He reluctantly picked up his phone and read the latest email.

"Just a reminder: Your rent is due in 2 hours" Fabian mimicked the message. He checked his balance and chocked when the realization hit him. "I don't have enough money to pay the rent!" he whispered.

He started to feel deep regret quitting his part-time job at the supermarket. He thought he finally had enough of the unfair treatment he received at the store and he quit, not thinking about the consequences it had on his future.

He thought back to what the manager had said when he came to his office with the resignation notice: "You will be moving into the streets soon, Diya!" the man had shouted, laughing uncontrollably. As Fabian left, the manager's expression turned serious:

"Foolish child..."

Both his parents worked as nurses in the hospital. Fabian still had nightmares from the time he was aged seven. The age his parents were brutally slaughtered by a mentally insane woman with a broken bottle.

He remembered when the government officials, the fake sad expressions plastered across their face, appeared at his doorsteps, informing Fabian of the terrible 'accident' that had occurred. The image of him asking for mummy and daddy over and over still played in the back of his head like a movie. It was like a scar that will forever exist within him..

*Ding* *Dong*

He was awoken from the horrors of his thoughts by the doorbell followed by a violent set of knocks. Fabian slowly moved out of his sitting position and dragged himself towards the door, forgetting about the horrors that took place two years ago...

Little did he know that once he opened the door, his life would never be the same...
