2. Setting up the Nest

i layed 10 Repletes and 2 Gatherers. While the eggs incubated, i went up, and starrted gathering more of those odd fruits. they may not be very big, about half the size of my fist, but they were PACKED with nutrients, which is something my growing Hive would desperately need. lets see...

how many nutrients would it cost to unlock wariors? I instinctively knew each replete could hold about 100 doses of nutrient syrup, so all told, they could hold a total of 1,000 nutrient doses.

i called out to my two drones, and had them assist me in transfering about 30 of the Purple Fruits.

i wait patientently for my new children to hatch, entering an alert rest-like state i will call torpor. waking up, i decide to use some of the fruits id gathered to test my Force abilities. i zeroed in on a single fuit, and tried to lift it, which it ended up smashing into the dirt ceiling.

[Ding! Ability Discovered! Force Telekinesis Rank C, 1/5]

okay. maybe i used to much power? i tried again, gentler though. The fruit seemed to wiggle inggle in place for a moment then gently rose into the air. i wonder how far i can push this... i reached out to another fruit, but the first one fell. i tried holding the image of my fruit floating gently and imagined another rising up to hover next to it. that seems to work, so i reach out for more, holding the image in my mind, until i have 25 fruit, floating gently before me.

[Ding! Telekinesis has been improved via hosts understanding of basic force techniques. Telekinesis is now rank A, 1/ 15]

Well thats convenient. i gently float themfruits down, then drop them.

C-CRACK

MY DRONES ARE HATCHING! i bolt for the nursery, to watch, and if needed, to help.0

i watch, tense, as my Repletes hatch, then try to climb the walls. i mentally stop them, then pick them up and gently place them in the food storage room, on the ceiling. i instruct the Gatherers to go out and begin harvesting fruits, then feed them to the Repletes. I got back a sense of confusion.

i felt like an idiot. i mentally instructed the Gatherers to follow me, and showed them the repletes.

then i took them outside the nest, and showed them the fruit tree, explaing to them that feeding the swarm is thier responsibility. They immediately get to work.

i focus, reaching out to grasp several fruits with my Telekinesis. i gently twist, pulling them of, then gently setting them down. Training my skills. All of a sudden, my instincts scream danger. i instinctively leap side ways, twisting my body to see what had attacked me. it was a large off green colored creature, with a beak and many odd looking patches arranged in a sort of ridge along its spine. its head glowed, mesmerizing me. i had to focus on the instinct of danger, and i broke free of it hypnotic influence.

[Ding! Emergency Quest Activated! Defeat the Baby Scrange! Reward: Force Lightning, Lay Egg Warrior. Failure Penalty: Death]

Well damn.

I focuse my Tk on some good sized rocks, and pelted th annoying beasty again and again. imleap rowards it, beiefly buzzing my wings to swing me around somthat i land on its back. i roars, and writhes around in an attemp to throw me off. i reach my arms around its neck, and squeeze. im hit against countless rocks and trees, my carapace cracking. i continue to squeeze, the beasts struggles slowing. i could sense it was weakening. i squeezed even harder, knowing that this would make an excellent meal for the warriors i planed to hatch later on.

SNAP!

The scrange went limp, its neck brocken by my grip.

[Ding! Quest completed. Distributing rewards.]

I hauled the beast back to the nest, then layed 28 drone eggs, 8 to be mutated into gatherers and 20 into Repletes, as well as 10 Warriors.

im exhausted, so i sleep, until im woken abruptly by that damnable sound...

[Ding! Host has reach minimum population growth needed and has unlocked Population Management Subsystem as a result.]

I ignore the annoying message, and bite off the head of the baby Scrange. then i proceed to disemboqel it, getting rid of the entrails. I may be a bug now, but im not a dung beetle. We dont eat poop. i mentally instruct a Gatherer to dispose of them far away from here. i then proceed to butcher the carcass, and feed the baby Warriors and Repletes. i head up out of the nest, after laying ten more Wariors.

i have decided to practice flying.
