1 Chapter 1 - Status and Skills
My name is Yuuichi, but I usually go by Yuu, I am 15 years old now and I am currently on my way to the capital.
The children that turn 15 will have to go to the temple of the gods and see what skills have been bestowed upon them.
The highest amount of skills you can have bestowed is 5, however that is a rare case and most people usually have 2-3.
And since these skills can shape your future and the future of the country it is customary to have them checked at the age of 15 since the gods bestow the skills on your 15th birthday.
There is another reason for getting our skills checked and it is because even though they have already been bestowed, it is impossible to know what they are, thus making using them impossible.
Currently, I am on a carriage with 4 other children, 2 adults and 3 adventurer's acting as guards for the ride.
It appears the 2 adults had business in the capital and that is why they are riding with us, however, I hear it is usually just children and adventurers acting as guards.
My parents had taming skills so I hear that there is a high likelihood that I will also receive skills related to taming.
Even with being a commoner if you have gotten good skills you can live a relatively easy life and that is what most children hope for when attending the ceremony.
I myself am included in thus on the way to the capital I am harbouring hopes and dreams within my heart.

I am currently waiting my turn in the church to get my skills appraised and it is quite the nerve-racking experience.
I am currently hoping that when it is my turn that I get a good taming skill such as
[ Tame・Monster ]like my father or[ Tame・Animals ]like my mother.
Tame animals might seem useless however it so you can tame wild animals such as wolves or boars to help with hunting or farm work so it is actually quite sought after.
Of course getting both would be the best possible outcome I could hope for, however no matter what the outcome is I am going to have to live with the skills I have been given.
『Now then, you're next』
Ah, it seems it is finally my turn and I was lead to the room to have my status checked by an elderly nun.
Upon entering the room it is a small room with a crystal ball with a thin rectangular indent on the top the size of a playing card.
「Please put your hands on the crystal ball」(Old Nun)
While saying that the num put a small metal card in a slot in the middle of the crystal ball, I wonder what that is for? It looks like the card I have seen many adults carrying.
「So I just have to touch the crystal ball?」 (Yuu)
「That is correct」 (Old Nun)
I close my eyes and then touch the crystal ball, after a few seconds I take a peek at the status that has been displayed, upon seeing 2 skills there I sigh a breath of relief knowing that I got more than 1.
Although rare it has been known that some people only get 1 skill and it is something that every 15-year-old getting their status checked feared.
Opening my eyes more I looked at what my skills actually were and that is when despair filled my heart as my status showed

Not only did I get the worst taming skill [ Tame・Slime ]I also got the weakest version of it allowing me to only tame 1 slime and for my second skill, it only allows me to see the stats of slimes making it even more useless than the tame skill.
Seeing these skills my hopes for the future were almost shattered completely, all that I can hope for now is when I turn 18 I get a blessing and a good one at that.
When someone turns 18 same with the skills the gods can bestow you a blessing however you can only ever get 1 blessing and the chance of actually getting a blessing in the first place is quite low.
「It seems you have gotten 2 skills here so lets see」 (Old Nun)
After reading what my skills were the nun consoled me and said that I can live a prosperous life regardless of what skills I have and then gave me the card that was placed on top of the ball.
「Do you not know what this is young man?」 (Old Nun)
Saying that the nun seemed quite concerned that I didn't know what this mettle card was and began explaining its function.
It seems this is a[ Status Card ]and one can use it to check their own status, it also functions as one's own ID so I was advised to look after it as getting a replacement costs 5 small gold coins.
After receiving my card I exited the church and then waited for the carriage to get ready for departure.
And with this, my time at the capital came to an end and it was time for me to head back home on the carriage that brought me here.
