Furinji Kotaro. This was the name of the merchant whom I was supposed to investigate this time.
From the mission info he was suspected to be a hidden weapon supplier who had connections with dubious people.
The client this time was also a rich merchant from the capital who wanted to investigate Kotaro's background properly before deciding to do business with him or not.
I had been following the movements of this Kotaro through my mind eye skill for about an hour and am really suspicious about him.
The quest notification from system was simple to my relief. I wanted to encounter something interesting but evil organizations and the like would be a pain in the ass.
QUEST : FIND OUT THE TRUTH ABOUT FURINJI KOTARO'S HIDDEN BUSINESS.
REWARD : 500 SHOP POINTS.
To put it simply , I just had to follow Kotaro's movements using mind's eye and watch what he was up to.
The job was simple because if I just focused my skill on his movements , then the burden on my spiritual power would not be much either and I could spy on him as much as I wanted.
The downside would be that I could not sense other things in that time but it's not like I was on a battlefield either. So everything was fine.
So far I had found some shady facts about the movements of this Kotaro. On the open side , his business of accessories seemed to be going well and he should be reeling in money.
I could see through all illusions using mind's eye and I had seen that two people who came to his shop were really suspicious.
They were using transformation jutsu to disguise as a normal rich couple but both of them were definitely ninja and had chunin level chakra capacity.
A disguised ninja visiting an accessory shop in a civilian town. I definitely found this suspicious. But still this did not give me the idea of what business they were doing.
According to info it should be related to weapons. From the looks of it , I needed to spy for more time to actualy see them doing some kind of transaction.
The two ninja did not wear headbands under their disguise so I was not sure about their backgrounds. Nor were their information inside the Bingo book.
They could be from a great hidden village , some small hidden village like Takigakure or even something else. I was really wasting brain cells thinking hard about this but it was also part of being a jounin. I was really not used to information gathering and similar kind of stuff. Without my mind's eye skill , I would not even think of taking on such missions.
I had an idea about the location of their secret transaction though. The shop of Kotaro looked a simple two story one but I had checked with my mind's eye that it also contained a relatively large basement.
It seemed to be used as a storehouse because I saw many boxes lying there but did not properly confirm what was actually stored inside them.
I could check the contents right now but my mind was feeling somewhat tired from using the skill for more than an hour already. Well my skill had limitless potential but my current power was nowhere near enough to free use it. Once again I felt the need to become stronger.
The solution was also a simple one. I just had to close the distance between me and the shop. Then I could minimize the radius the vision which would also result in minimum spiritual energy consumption.

The shop had all kinds of accessories crafted from expensive looking stuff but I was naturally not interested in them .
It would look as if I was browsing through them but in truth most of my focus was on the vision being played inside my mind.
Finally the three of them were in the basement and I was spying on their conversation. The distance was really close so I could even hear them without thinking much about the spiritual consumption.
I did for few minutes and left the shop with a small smile on my face. To put it simply, they were really doing business of weapons. I managed to hear that Kotaro was actually just a middleman and the actual dealer was the black market.
The two were actualy part of guard squad of some other rich merchant who had business all over the Elemental nations. I did not need to know anything else because that was not my business.
Ninja were professionals so most of the time we only did the work which we were paid for. I conformed that Kotaro was the middleman for black market so my job was already done. The client would have to decide by himself if he could trust Kotaro who put his hands in shady organization like the black market for some quick money.
If the two chunin belonged to enemy village then my job would have extended. Most likely after reporting to Hokage , I would need to tail the two and it would have been real pain the ass. On the other hand , black market and private guards were not considered the direct enemies of the village. So my job was done.
I could write a report and send it back through a messenger pigeon but there was time before the deadline of the mission so I decided to relax in this town for a while and report directly after returning back.
My original plan was to visit gambling dens and I still planned to follow it. While another task was added now which was to meet a powerful and perverted sage. I saw Jiraya here when I first arrived in the town and scanned it fully for once.
His perverted personality was real but it did not bother me much. Besides there wont be many chances to meet him at least in one year timeframe if I missed it now. After all he would return when it would be time for chunin exams some months after cannon started.
