Chapter 0 - Prologue

Nowadays, readers aren't interested in the villain's backstory. That's because they've already committed all their evil deeds, and only start making excuses after they've failed.

In fact, I hate hearing things like, "He was actually a good guy," or "The world was evil." Even an S-class actor's passionate performance can't save a terrible script and melodrama. People won't sympathize with you if you try to sell them emotions with sloppy writing.

Especially in this day and age.

In an era where the heroine's fate can be twisted and she can die if she doesn't appeal to the readers. It was a cruel world where even beautiful women struggled to survive. The world is no longer kind enough to listen to the villains' long-winded stories. I wasn't curious about those things either.

I should have thought a little differently.

Why didn't I realize that not only is this the era of the cruel world, but also the era of the random possession meta, where readers can fly into the novel? The meta where possession always seems to choose the weirdest people, so it's basically a given that you'll become an extra or a villain. Since there's no chance of possessing the main character, I should have looked around carefully.

But yeah. Honestly, it was unfair.

Just knowing that this is a novel is a huge advantage for the possessor. The world can't always go my way, so I guess I can compromise on the character I possess. There's no guarantee that I'll possess a good character. Besides, in this day and age, being the final boss is almost like being guaranteed a comfortable life as a possessor.

But what if this isn't a well-written novel? What if this is just a mass-produced romance fantasy novel where the female lead spends all day flirting with the handsome male leads? All I've seen is the female and male leads flirting, but what if I'm born a villain?

People these days really aren't interested in the villain's backstory. The author of this novel knew how to cater to those readers. That's why there isn't a single line about the villains' backstories in the book. From the moment the once-mighty enemy falls on the battlefield to the moment the wicked woman is beheaded on the execution ground. They never uttered a word of their own story. They didn't even beg for mercy in their last words.

Thanks to that, I don't know anything about my own future, but I know what kind of dessert the princess of the neighboring country likes. I don't know how the young lady in front of me will transform into the saintess of the evil god, but I know all about the crown prince's childhood. I don't know why there are burn marks on my body, but I know why there is a scar on the wrist of the young lady of the Count's family. That's all the knowledge I have. I don't know what I need to know, and even if I did, I couldn't prepare for it.

No. I think I know a few things now. Because far away, a huge fireball was flying towards me.
