33 33 - "Shit!"

There were strange names at the beginning of the book of which Ataz had never heard. Very old wizards had written part of their own history as a teaching to future wizards. Only one of the names brought a memory to the cat, as if he had already heard about it somewhere; the subject's name was Maxwell Drealcthu.

What Ataz remembered was that when he was just a child, he read a lot of books about magic, and a name that was always part of the stories was very similar to the one in the new book. The name of the man he knew of was simply referred to as "Max". He was not sure if that really was the name that appeared in the books, because as he was small, he could only have created a nickname for the original name, as it was very difficult for him to pronounce at the time, but he was not yet certain these two were the same person.

One thing that caused him more uneasiness, was that there were no necromancy books in his day and that the "Max" he remembered so much was in books about common magic. They were all about how to improve or learn more skills, together with the basic teachings, but nothing mentioning an extremely dangerous and destructive power like that.

The cat then started to read the first paragraphs of the book. It described what the environment was like in the past where the magicians lived: ordinary huts, in small villages, where they were stuffed with other magicians, but with almost no ordinary humans nearby. There was no war apparently; they lived in harmony.

Ataz almost felt like he was inside his land again. The book described the plants as incredibly green and shiny, as if they were always wet from the rain and glistened with water drops, the animals that helped so much in the survival of the inhabitants of that small place, the trails made with a clear and moist earth that was home to many colorful insects and small creatures. The houses had a faint smell of oak, made with thatched roofs that were incredibly sturdy and small fences made of stone surrounded the village, defining where it would start and where they would be in neighboring territory.

Everything was being described exactly as it was supposed to be, at least it could make Ataz see the village itself, but it was still vague information. It was not certain that any of those descriptions were actually about the same village in which Ataz had once lived.

'The magic congress was still being formed. We didn't have rules or laws among the people yet, so everything was gradually settling down, together with the union of the best magicians of the time,' one of the magicians said in the book, as an added comment.

"This is really old. When I was born, the magic congress was too old," Ataz thought, pressing the down key on the keyboard, causing the page to scroll further down.

Because the monitor screen was very bright and the animal's eyes had a much more sensitive vision, Ataz started to feel a slight headache when looking at that screen for so long, but still he kept reading, wanting to reach his limit before then getting some rest.

'We decided to bring together the best magicians of the time, from all regions and thus, we created the first Magical Congress. Our laws were simple. If any region went to war, everyone would join them, with the task of helping them and maintaining peace among our peoples, be they wizards, magicians, fairies, or any other type of mystical being that existed.'

Ataz stopped for a moment, wondering what the hell would be fairies. He had already heard that some beings ended up becoming extinct due to a major accident that happened in the regions near his village, but he never found out what all these beings were. He just remembered that curiously squirrels had been extinct from the land he lived on, and that, curiously, made him coldly believe that squirrels were strong beings that no longer existed.

'So we started little by little. First, we created a cabin a little bigger than the others. It was located in the village in the center of the region, so it was easier to get around for any mystical being who needed some kind of help or information. The hut was all covered with wooden logs, being more resistant than the other houses. We thought that if there was ever a war, we could at least protect the children of the region by putting them inside the huts.'

"Interesting, but I think I better look for more for the part about spells... I don't have much time, maybe another time," Ataz said to himself as he went down the page further, his eyes quickly reading the words lost in the text, trying to find something faster.

His eyes scanned down further until, at a certain point on the page, he read the words '... one of the most powerful spells I have ever encountered...' Ataz, with the tip of his paw on the arrow above the keyboard, went up the page more quickly, looking for what would be such a powerful spell that was written in the book.

'Those things started showing up and attacking the whole village. We were desperate, afraid of what might happen. One of our most sensitive magicians had already felt that these things would come, but we didn't know it would be anytime soon. We gathered all the wisdom we had and created one of the most powerful spells I have ever encountered. It destroyed them all in just one pronunciation. We ran out of mana for over 2 months. We were completely unprotected, but pronouncing it once was able to destroy all those who had tried to get close to us.'

Ataz's eyes widened, amazed by such power. His tail was slowly moving from side to side, showing interest and curiosity about the subject.

'We called it the touch explosion spell. It worked as follows...'

Ataz then went down the page trying to read what else would be written, but before he could do anything, a few words appeared on the computer monitor screen.

'To continue reading, sign up for our free 30-day Loot program'

Ataz shook his head, moving away from the monitor, wondering what that would mean. Then the cat clicked on the message, hoping to be able to continue reading, but another flap opened. Now there were questions about the cat's entire life: what was his full name, age, gender, and address. The cat was surprised, wondering where he was getting into. He clicked, trying to fill all the spaces, thinking he believed he knew what he was doing.

"What is transsexual? Gender non-conforming? Other?!" Ataz thought, confused as he looked at the 'gender' option.

"Okay, now what the hell is a zip code?'' the cat thought, even more confused.

"It has no way of knowing whether I'm lying or not... I'm just going to put in something and wait until I get the rest of the book," Ataz thought as he positioned his little paws in front of the keyboard.

The cat then started hitting any key randomly with both paws, writing any word and letter in each box of answers on the site. He didn't even try to create words that really existed, he just kept hitting the keys, as if they were a type of piano or a toy for very young children.

After completing all the spaces, the happy cat pressed "Done" with the mouse and, instantly, the website updated and a big message appeared in front of the cat's screen:

'It was not possible to complete the registration. Try again.'

"Shit," the cat said, tapping its paw on the table.

This caused him to stop and open his eyes wide. Ataz had said a word almost perfectly as a human. The cat then started to repeat the word 'shit' several times, trying to see if he could get the pronunciation out of his mouth to come out more perfectly.

It seemed to hurt the cat's throat a little, but he was impressed that he could say that even though he was a cat. Perhaps with a little more effort, he would be able to communicate with Ana or with other people, and he would no longer need to rub himself on people's legs to tell them to do something.

"Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit..."
