31 Chapter 31

Inside the apartment, a pair of father and son were playing chess. The older one had white hair and appeared to be in mid to late forties. HIs body was robust with muscle and currently tapping his finger against his arm. Across from him was a teen with black hair and wearing a pair of glasses.

"It has been a while since we hung out together by ourselves." James said as he moved his pawn.

"Does training not count?" Jason replied as he stared down at the board.

Countless thoughts flew through his mind at once on how to move. Past games and moves flew through his mind as he tried to determine the way to move on the board. Games he never actually won but came close to.

"I suppose. So I heard you took a beating from a robot." James asks as he studies his son's move.

"Magical robot."

"Fine magical robot. Are you ok?" James asks while moving a piece.

"While its strength wasn't much, it's enchantments were more of the issue. Those blasted things made its strength sting a bit." Jason answered while rubbing his chin.

"Well, our bodies are denser so we are affected by magic more than others. Though, I suppose one of the perks your mother passed to you was a higher magic resistance."

Jason just nodded, while he is the son of Death of the Endless. He truthfully only gained a few perks from her. No he didn't gain any magic talent or power over death and life. There can only be one with that power and that belongs to his mother. He really only gained a small piece of her nigh-omnipotence which he can't control and appears in his dreams from time to time.

Well, he also gained resurrection he can only use on himself. So if by chance he is killed, he can resurrect soon after. Only the chances are quite slim, that even his father only came close a few times in his long life.

"So, how is it going with Lala?" James changed topics. "Did you two do 'it' yet?"

"If 'it' means dating, I think so?" Jason replied honestly. He was a bit confused as they don't really say it, but they were differently past friendship level.

"Ha," James let out a disappointed sigh.

--

While the boys were at home, Lala was out to lunch with Liz. A few passersby would give them a second look, but none really bothered them. How could they not when both were pleasant on the eyes.

"So are you and Jason finally dating?" Liz asked.

"I believe so." Lala replied unconfidently.

"Do you want to date him?" Liz asked, smiling.

"I want to marry him." Lala replied happily.

"Then why are you doubting yourself? If you're worried, why don't you take charge and just say it." Liz replied. "Males are boneheads in relationships. Especially the younger ones."

"Really?"

"Well, it's not like women can't be the same, so no." Liz answered by waving her hand with a small laugh.

"So what do you think I should do?" Lala asks, twirling her fingers together. Her cheeks blushed a bit as she was asking Liz about this.

Rubbing her chin a bit, Liz took a moment to think of an answer. "Waiting for them to male a move could take years. Despite their strength and speed, those boys move slower than a snail in relationships."

"Well, everyone has their own pace in relationships but truth be told. If we leave it to Kryptonian boys, we might be in a casket before they think they're ready for the next stage." Liz joked lightly but it turned into a sad laughter.

"That doesn't really help me."

"Just be direct with him. It is how I got James' truth be told. After I got to know him one day I just straight up told him to take me on a date and he did." Liz answered.

"Don't I go on dates with Jason every few days?" Lala countered.

"That is true. Now that I think of it, how has Jason not devoured you yet? You have literally teased him with that nice body of yours."

"Devour?"

Grinning, Liz made a small crude movement with her fingers getting Lala blushing madly. It was quite funny in Liz's opinion seeing such a reaction.

"Well jokes aside. The food here is pretty bad." Liz changed topics much to Lala relief.

"I have to agree."

--

Returning to the apartment where they discovered their boys finishing up their game of chess. Only a few pieces were captured from both sides, but the pieces were scattered across the board. For they didn't dare move some pieces for they would be captured the moment they did.

"Checkmate." James said proudly of Jason's defeat. "You almost had me this time."

"I will beat you one of these times." Jason made a small promise to his father.

"You're ten thousand years too early." James bragged.

"We are back." Liz announced though she doubted she needed to. She highly doubted either of them missed their return.

"Welcome back." James greeted them happily. He basically skipped over to her, giving her a small welcome back peck on the cheek.

--

Later that night James and Liz decided to 'turn in' early. Jason was sitting on his bed across from Lala scratching his cheek lightly. While he was embarrassed it wasn't because of what he was about to say, but more so the cheesy manga setting.

"Hey Jason, we are dating right?" Lala asked.

"I think so?" He was slightly scared he said the wrong thing. The last thing he wanted was for it to be awkward between the two of them for the next few days.

Jason watched as Lala let out a breath of relief. "Great, I'm not the only one who thought so."

"Yeah," Jason replied.

Before he could say anything else, he found Lala upon him giving him a kiss. A kiss that left all the past ones in the wind.
