The Annoying System

Slowly and cautiously, Alfred made his way towards the eagle.

"Now, now don't be angry. As long as you behave, I'll try my best to send you back to the forest." Alfred soothed the eagle.

Seeing the eagle looked calm, Alfred tried to get close to it. He starched out his right hand and slowly tried to reach the eagle's head.

On the other side, looking at Alfred, who was getting closer to the eagle, Nathen's nerves become strained. His hand tightly clutching the sword in his wrist. His mind alert to the extreme. His eyes as sharp as the eagles, he was ready to take action in a moments notice.

Slowly and steadily, Alfred got near the eagle and lightly touched the eagle's forehead.

The eagle on the other hand, as if sensing no malice from Alfred, loosened its body and closed its previously tense eyes.

Noticing the Eagle not behaving in an aggressive manner, Alfred gave a sigh of relief. He then signalled Nathen that everything was ok and told him to stand down.

"Good fellow. Just stay like that for minute will you." Alfred whispered in a low voice.

"System, you there?" Alfred said in his mind this time.

[At your service 24x7 host. Just say what you need. And I'll present it to you.] System bragged.

"Will you stop bragging for a moment. I want to ask you something important." Alfred said in serious tone.

[Your wish is my command, host. Just speak away.]

"Good." Alfred said in his mind. "Can you do a deep body scan on the eagle?"

[Host, although I know this world has myriad of different races in it and it is perfectly normal for you to like a female of some other race but host please spare this eagle. It is a different species. It's not even fully sentient.]

"Ha? System what are you talking about?" Alfred was confused.

[Host, don't pretend with me. I know you have hots for the eagle.]

Listening to the system reply Alfred was speechless.

"System you have host for the eagle. Your sister has hosts for the eagle. Your whole family has hots for the eagle." Alfred cursed at the system in his mind. Although he has seen all kinds of shameless system in novels, this was his first time he saw a perverted system.

[So, you don't want a female eagle. You want a male eagle? My. My. What a unique teste.]

"System can you keep your filthy jokes to yourself and answer my questions seriously for a moment?" Alfred was starting to lose his patience with the system.

[Ok. Jokes are over then. Tell me what is that the host want.]

"Can you whole body scan on the eagle? You know like MRI and X-rays?" Alfred explained. "I want to know what this eagle is capable of. What its weakness are. How strong it is. Stuff like that."

[Hmm I understand now what host wants.]

"How could you not understand what I want from the start? Was I speaking a different language all these while?" Alfred complained.

"So, can it be done?"

[To tell the host the truth, I don't know.]

"What do you mean you don't know. For god's sake, you are the system. You are supposed to know everything."

[Cut me some slack, will you host. I am not even a day old yet. How am I supposed to know about all my powers? It's like you asking a baby that if he can play football just after a day he was born or asking baby superman if he could fly just after he was born.] The System argued.

"For a baby that is a day old you are quite perverted aren't System?" Alfred retorted. "What were you doing all this time then? Wasting time on standby mode? You know system you should learn for me. I have been working my ass off whole day to survive in this world and what were you doing? Watching adult stuff on your system internet?"

"As for superman, system you are not a superhero. I am the superhero. You are supposed to be my superpower. But you turned out be useless."

[First of all, host. I don't have something like system internet. I checked that. And even if there was something like that do you know how expensive that will be? Even a single bit of data will be enough to bankrupt you for a few lives."]

[Second, I never waste my time on standby mode. Hack I don't even have standby mode. Host from the moment I was born I have been analysing and recording your memory in systems back file for you. So that in case if you forget anything in future system can always it for host. This is something I have discovered about my function.]

[Third, not only I am analysing and storing the hosts memories. I am also learning from them. That means I am learning from host's many experiences. Both good and bad. So, you must now understand where my perverse nature came from right host?]

Listening to system's explanation, a strand of invisible sweat appeared of Alfred's forehead.

"System, did… did you finish looking through all my memories?" Alfred asked as his inner voice stuttered a little.

[Not all but I have seen enough to determine what kind of person the host is.]

"What about my private ones? The ones in my 'special' folder? Did you also watch those?"

[Host there was no so called 'special' folder in your brain. Everything I was pretty pubic for me to watch.]

"Humm. Well I guess, I never knew I would travers someday and share a mind with a system who peeks at my memories without my permissions. Well not much harms comes out of you knowing about it, I guess. After all you will be always be inside my head." Alfred shrugged." Let's go back to the main topic, shall we? Can you do what I asked previously? Or Not?"

[Well host it's not like I can't do. As I said I don't know.] The system explained. [I don't know all my functions fully yet. It looks like we have to use the old trial and error method and explore my capabilities one step at a time. As for what you asked me, let me check. I'll be back in a few seconds.]

The seconds passed in a literal blink of an eye, suddenly s dialogue box appeared in Alfred's mind.

[Do you want to initiate deep body scan function of the system?] [Req: 100 MP]

[Yes / No]

Looking at the dialogue box, Alfred realized what system said had merit. The system had no idea what it could do or what its limits were. It was like a new born baby, having no idea what its capabilities were.

"I need to set aside some time later to test out the systems capabilities." Alfred thought in his mind secretly. After all, it was one of his big trump cards to prosper in this world. It will be not wise to fail to care for properly.

Suddenly, Alfred's deep thoughts were broken by the cheerful voice of the system.

[Host I told you I could do it. I did it. And it was as easy as snapping my finger. Hmm looks like I am the greatest.] The system started to praise himself as if there was no tomorrow.

"Hay, one job narcissist. Stop your self-praise routine and explain to me what is this MP."

[Ah, yes. I forgot about that.] The system said. [Magic points or MP in short, is the thing Host would require to use different functions of the system. It is like the petrol or diesel that powers up machines in host's previous world.]

"So basically, without MP you are nothing but an annoying system that could only talk and cannot do nothing else?"

[Host please don't put it like that. I can do many things such as…]

"Such as?"

[Host has no need to know.] The system said trying to avoid Alfred's question. [Now do the host want the system to scan this bird or not. It looks like the guy standing behind you is getting impatient.]

Remembering that he was standing near a predator all this time, Alfred's back suddenly felt cold. I immediately reread the message again, in his mind and finding that everything was correct, he said yes.

Soon a 3D image of the eagle appeared in his mind. The 3D image of the birds felt real so real that it was hard to distinguish between the real thing and the 3D model in his head. The only thing that gave the 3D model away was the function looking at the internal organ structure of the eagle.

Alfred noticed that by focusing at a single part of the eagle he could see the internal organs of that specific part. For example, If Alfred focuses on the eagle's chest, he could see the eagle's beating heart. It was as if he had 360-degree x-ray vision.

"System, it is fancy and good all that but what should I do with it. After all I am no doctor. All I want to know is the strengths and weakness of this bird. Not some fancy x-ray thingy."
