1 Prologue

Charlie's POV

"Help! Help me!" I screamed while running. I'm running after a thief who suddenly grabbed my wallet out of my hands. Panting hard, I ran like crazy to catch the thief.

Charlie run, Charlie! I screamed in my mind.

I'm about to reach the thief when a dog suddenly appeared and stopped in front of me. I can see how the dog barred its fangs at me with drools dripping like I'm a great feast to eat.

"Fuck!" I frustratingly screamed as I stepped back and run towards another direction away from the dog. I momentarily forget that I'm running after my wallet in a thief's hands. I can't help but run farther more, vividly remembering the scary image of the dog.

The dog continues to bark at me. I continue to sprint down even if I'm dead tired. I just entered almost all alleys I can run through.

I noticed that the dog's barking dwindled in my ears, a few moments later. When I turned around, I saw that there was a raging train so it could not pass.

Thank you, she thought.

I did not realize that I had reached the railroad because of all the running. I finally slowed down my pace.

I stopped running and just walked to a waiting shed there. There, I could no longer control myself and let go of resentment and anger from my chest.

"This life is really annoying! Fuck it! " Annoyed, I kicked the trash can that was there. I could not stop my tears from falling because of what happened.

First, my wallet was stolen. Second, a dog chased me. And to top those two, I saw my own boyfriend Clark Rodriguez with a beautiful woman at the mall I just went to before I was robbed. When I confronted him, he said that they should break up because I was not beautiful, I was also super boring and that he and his friends were really just having fun messing with me. I can still accept those but to say he does not LOVE me? Hell, no! He also said no one will take me seriously.

I cried even more and just leaned on the side of the shed. I actually don't care if people are already looking at me. I thought of calling my friend Chel since my phone was not stolen with my wallet. But I knew all I will only hear from her are her endless rantings and preachings. She did warn me about Clark but I did not listen. Now, I'm left crying my heart out.

"Damn this life!" I muttered aloud.

From the beginning, I really liked Clark not only because he was famous on the campus but also because he looked so kind and charming. So I was shocked when he flirted with me and said there was nothing more beautiful but me. I thought we would last.

"Miss, are you okay? Why are you crying? Does anything hurt?"

I looked up to the source of that voice and saw a guy with a guitar case attached to his back. It was a bit dark in the part where I was leaning so I could not see his face. I could only make out of the figure that it is a guy.

I bent down and cried again. I just can't help it. I feel so vulnerable. I was only stunned for a few seconds because a handkerchief suddenly appeared in my sight. The guy still did not leave in front of me, huh.

"Miss, please wipe your tears," he said.

The guy tried to give the handkerchief to me but I'm not taking it. I'm getting a bit irritated.

"What do you want, huh?" I asked angrily.

He looked at me carefully before answering.

"I saw you from there," he said pointedly mouthing at a small bar nearby. "It looks like you have a serious problem and you are crying. I don't want to see a woman cry. I feel guilty."

I sighed. I better tell it.

He seems nice, I thought, thinking of how gentle his voice is.

"I was robbed. Then a stray dog chased me around a corner. Worst of all, my boyfriend traded me for a super nice girl. How can I fight back if I'm not even beautiful nor smart? I'm so pathetic." I sobbed as I spoke.

He stared at me as if something was on my face. After a while, he suddenly sighed and spoke.

"Are you a fingerprint?" He asked, out of the blue.

Wondering, I answered. "Why?"

"Because you're the only one in this world. You have no match and you are the only one who is beautiful in my eyes. It's got to be you coz you've got that one thing."

I laughed. I didn't expect to hear a pick-up line from him. But in all fairness, I only heard that line now. Three claps for originality.

I finally took the hanky that he's reaching out to me. The guy looked relieved upon seeing me laughing because of what he said. He began fumbling on his bag's pockets that he also has with him. I was surprised yet again when he reached out with a Rubik's Cube on his hand. I laughed again. It's my first time to receive such from a guy.

"Make it like your stress ball. It's effective," he said.

I took it from him and played with it. I started to feel at ease. After a few moments, I looked up to him and smiled. The guy looked uneasy and became a bit shaky at once.

Then he spoke.

"You're more beautiful when you smile. Don't cry again. Your ex-boyfriend will also get what he deserves eventually."

I'm really touched. I wiped my tears again, as fresh ones cover my face once again. A few moments passed before he spoke again.

"Don't go yet. Please stay for a while. I just have something to get," he said then walked away.

I smiled.

Hmmm… Not bad.
