Howard Stark and his wife died or you can say got murdered by the hydra through winter soldier but before that Hydra did something vicious. When Howard Stark adopted a child who was way more smarter than kids of his age. Howard saw his reflection of himself in that eight years old kid and adopted him without knowing that he was specially trained by Hydra to keep an eye on the Starks.
