36 Chapter 27: disaster strikes

In the next few days, the silver thorn was found and brought back along with mountains of treasure that would sustain an entire city for a week! (This would hide Emyrs richness for a few more moments)

However, before they were able to do so...

Rumble-

"Take cover!"

Emyrs: (reading the menu) Wa-

Boom!

Fiery magma boulders rained from the sky like the apocalypse. The team scramble for cover behind rocks. To Emyrs surprise the were no longer stepping on lushly soft grass but instead a rocky tundra, cold and arid. (This is why you don't look at your phone(menu) all the time!)

The falling meteors certainly didn't help with the temperature as it not only caused havoc to the already barren area.

Russell: (shouted on top his lungs) Leader, what should we do?!

Emyrs: (shocked back to reality) run!

Russell: (air forced out his lungs with effort) Where?!

Emyrs: Away from his place!

Russell: Which direction?!

Emyrs: A different direction from the falling meteors!

Russell: Just give us a direct-

A thunderous boom goes off just beside Russell, flinging him away from his cover. Now wide open, he is vulnerable to the showering meteors.

Sarah: Run to the left!

Russell jumped quadrupedally and launched himself out of danger.

Russell: (hyperventilating) I barely made it in one piece!

Emyrs: Everyone towards me, perma-barrier!

bang- bang-

The blue shaded thick barrier stayed intact without a scratch.

Eddy: That's some sturdy barrier...

Natsumi: That's our leader for you!

Russell: What do we do now?

Emyrs: (looked firmly at everyone) We wait, once it stops we rush and get out of here.

Everyone: (notice something isn't right) Uhm.

Sarah: (worryingly) What's wrong leader?

Emyrs: There seems to be a lot of monsters heading towards us.

Sarah: Could it be another outbreak?

Emyrs: No, they seem to be escaping from something... Something terrifying...

Sarah: (knitted her brows) What could possibly cause chaos there? We should report this to the king...

Eddy: (jumps in the conversation) An unknown threat maybe heading towards the city, i agree with reporting to the king as it would increase alertness and reduce overall damage.

Sarah: Yeah, still... I wonder what could possibly threaten strong monsters like them till the point of fleeing?

Faelyn: (monotone) Demons. I know this feeling, the feeling of hatred.

Emyrs: Bad history with demons?

Faelyn: (bit his tender lips) Very.

Emyrs: I see

Gaviel: Here they come!

Clusters of black dot started to fill the skyline. As time passes second by second, the dots became denser, then it became thick black lines. Finally the silhouette was shed and outburst the stampede of monsters.

From the very tiny inferno rats to the colossal titans of the deep ocean, any variations you could possibly think off it would exist in the dense crowd. If your mind could not handle a constant shaking of the ground up your internal fluids, this would basically be hell for you.

2 hours later(the team seems very patient, except for Eddy)

Russell: (rocking on a sitting position) Why hasn't it died down yet?! I'm so bored!

Ignored...

Russell: (his eyes wander around seamlessly, Faelyn took the spotlight once again) Faelyn, what are you doing?

Faelyn: Reading a book about flowers.

Russell: Ceh, you're no fun.

Alice: Flowers?

Faelyn: Yeah, want to have a look?

Alice: (Stares at Emyrs, Emyrs nods) Uhm!

Faelyn: (points at a white wash lilac lining, cupped shape flower from his book) This 6 petaled flower is called crocus goulimyi.

Alice: It's pretty!

Faelyn: Its from the Iridaceae family same as asparagus, the sparrow grass.

Alice: The tasty crunchy tube of greens, yum! Can the flower be eaten too?

Faelyn: Although not toxic, it would cause gastrointestinal upset problems.

Emyrs: (Interviens) Bad for stomach basically.

Alice: Bad for tummy?

Faelyn: Yeah, this other plant is called...

Russell: What are you girls playing?

Natsumi: What if we twist it this way, then this way...

Sarah: (snatch the object) No it probably won't work, I think it should be twisted this way, then this way, lastly this way...

Natsumi: You are amazing sarah, you aligned all the same colour on one side!

Sarah: (blush) It's not much.

Russell: Oi, answer me...

Natsumi: Hmm? (penetrate Russell's eyes) What do you want muppet?

Russell: (the pain of a double backstab course through his veins) So painful. Can't you be nicer?

Natsumi: I guess you are not too bad, what you lack in intelligence, you more than make up for in stupidity.

Russell: (Literally rolls on the floor)  My dignity!

Sarah: (hugs Natsumi from the side) There there, no need to fight...

Natsumi: Hmph!

Emyrs: It's about to end, pack your things and prepare to leave on the instance.

Everyone: (except for Eddy) Uhm.
