79 Candela

Just as Lin Jie climbed over the staggered stairs and landed on the platform, he heard the line.

"My savior, the soul in exile has been waiting for thousands of years."

His mouth twitched. Am I actually role-playing? However, unlike his thoughts that "the world finally got to fight the Big Boss " it seemed like the opening plot of "The Important NPC is handed over to the New Player".

(New Player taking over the important NPC?)

[TL note: Had a hard time figuring out what it was saying in the raw, please do tell me if you know.

"Savior" the title is really quite old-fashioned and cliché.

In traditional role-playing games, eleven out of ten player characters are so-called saviors.

But thinking about it, given his relatively poor gaming experience, it is unlikely that he would have any big innovations in his dream.

Lin Jie's eyes fell on the "NPC" who spoke the line.

This was a very standard male elf image.

He has long blond hair and olive green eyes, a handsome face that makes one unable to judge gender, and a neutral beauty that is very striking. At the same time, it's full of sharp lines and edges that do not feel too soft. Combined with the current scene it added to his modeling and lines.

Lin Jie could pretty much guess the plot. There must have been a catastrophe here, and the elf in front of him was either the culprit of it or he was unable to stop it, which in either way led to a tragedy.

When everyone had died, he woke up and couldn't bear the guilt and pain in his heart, so he chose to commit suicide or to seal himself to make himself suffer and atone until someone who could save the world and make up for his mistakes appeared.

Lin Jie felt that he had guessed the plot just out of this short scene.

He circled the elf, and suddenly realized that the sword inserted in him was the same as the long sword Joseph had sent.

This is like hammering, by thinking of it day by day and dreaming of it at night. Studying that sword during the day, and now I'm starting out with this sword and am making up a story in my dream.

The elf looked at him very impassively, and waited until Lin Jie was done thinking, before speaking: "

"On behalf of the kingdom, I must thank you for making the Holy Sword regain its light. This is the third sin that I cannot forgive myself for.

He should be referring to the one inserted in him, which is also the one Joseph gave me.

He used to wonder why there was something on the sword before that was a little "dirty" and later discovered that the black traces disappeared after turning it at a different angle. It should be due to the special craftsmanship of the sword, for example, something like "God's Biding".

[TL note: Yes it's Biding not Bidding]

It seems like it had become his in this dream. It was worthy of his dream, it put gold in his face.

However, the character of the elf seemed to be more inclined to the culprit who caused the disaster and was now punishing himself.

Lin Jie took the credit of lighting up the sword, without changing his lust he squatted down again, staring at the elf with interest, and said:

"Since that was the third sin, can you tell me about your other sins? I would love to hear your story."

"I just happened to have no other guests except Joseph recently and it seems like a good choice to guide him a bit.

Generally speaking, the people who are bitter and have hated personalities are often lonely, lack communication, and have a heavy psychological burden, in fact, they are eager to tell others about their own pain.

This is why villains usually have a strong desire to confess, and must speak out in front of others after their plan is almost done.

Of course, that is only one reason...

But it still led him to think that it wasn't the sprinkle of salt on the wound that made him speak out, but rather because there was a channel of venting his own pain and thoughts.

What's more, he first mentioned his sins himself, which already showed that he wanted to chat.

"If you would be willing to listen to the speech of this sinner, it would be an honor for me."

The elf gave out a slight smile, lowered his head humbly, and whispered:

"Thousands of years ago, in the era of no light and no fire, I tried to kill the gods, and open up territory for my people, but I was arrogant and in the end, I fell into madness just because I looked directly at God.

"After going mad, as their king I almost slaughtered my own people and ruined everything in the entire kingdom with my own hands. This is the sin of betrayal."

"It's a sin of ignorance that I hold the holy sword, and let it be stained with the blood of my fellow countrymen, that I use it to seal my filthy and twisted soul, which made it lose it's brilliance. And so dust covered the last sacred symbol of the kingdom."

"I pushed the kingdom to its pinnacle and then I destroyed everything with my own hands. In the next ten thousand years, the crown will be my shackles.

Lin Jie touched his chin, and the secret path was almost the same as he had guessed. But this elf was miserable enough. He went crazy after trying to kill the gods. He even wiped out his own country with the Holy Sword and then sealed himself.

"You call me savior? But I did not save you, and your kingdom has been destroyed."

Lin Jie pointed to the sword on his body and looked around again: Do you want me to do something? The elf's face suddenly became ashamed, as if his heart wanted to be seen through:

"Your kindness makes me ashamed, but please calm my anger, I do not think nor feel that I should be redeemed.

He seemed to be a child who made excessive demands but was blamed by his parents, and explained tremblingly:

"You have helped me a lot, and my country has already become dust in history. I am not qualified to do anything for this land."

"No matter what, I can't atone for my sins."

Lin Jie felt that the guy was afraid because of his constant self-condemnation during the thousands of years he had been sealed. I am afraid this guy has fallen into a psychological barrier that seemed to be scolding him when listening to anything.

The calmness had disappeared in the blink of an eye in front of the rather random question.

Lin Jie looked at him and interrupted his non-verbal confession slowly reaching out to him.

"You are giving up on yourself."

"Since you say you are guilty and you don't want to atone for your sins now, you are evading your responsibilities. In fact, your behavior has no meaning, it's just your cowardice.

In terms of "the next ten thousand years" the scene here should not be real, instead it may be the spirit's own state of mind and thus might be the elf's memory.

And the so-called massacre was "almost complete", and he himself wasn't sure if it even was.

"Have you paid attention to what happened to your country?"

"Did you pay attention to what happened to your remaining people?"

"Whether they were displaced, or whether they were rebuilding their homes, they were much weaker than you, but despite that they are still working hard, harder than you."

"You wield great power, but you feel sorry for yourself up here, and you don't even take any real actions. You are just lying to yourself, to give yourself an excuse to not bear any burdens."

"This is the price you should pay for your behavior, suffering in the pain of everyone's eyes, this is what you deserve, rather than what you are doing now.

"Professional therapist" Lin Jie chuckled.

"In these thousands of years, you have not grown a single bit, instead you are constantly backing away, backing back, back and even further back just waiting for others to give you a little freedom."

"Have you ever thought about what your people have suffered while you do nothing? Their pain is far above your own!"

"Think carefully about what you should do, no one else is your savior, only you can save yourself. Candela was taken aback, and then followed Lin Jie's words, completely sluggish. Then, he looked at Lin Jie's with his eyes lit up. It was like a child looking up at his father:

"You are right, but my ignorance is deep-rooted. Without your guidance, I don't know what I should do... I am deeply afraid of repeating the same mistake."

The elf kowtowed, with his long golden hair drawn through, and his forehead touching the ground in front of Lin Jie.
