34 Who's The Lucky One?

God, I needed to start locking the door when he was around.

"What?"

She shook her head, still staring at my hair, which was lying flat again.

"So how are you, babe?"

Armaan got up and started puttering around the room.

"Good. Just took a long bath."

"And how did the interview go?"

"It was very nice."

"Miranda was freaking out that you didn't turn in the report today for tomorrow's edition. Do you think you would be able to do it tomorrow?"

"Oh yes, definitely. It was a long day and I was tired, so I came back home."

"Of course, babe. I have already told her you are not going to be working late for a few more days, at least."

"Thanks," I smiled gratefully. "How was your work?"

"Hectic. I don't think I would get any sleep tonight."

"Let me help."

My tone forced Armaan to comment, "You are not working at any cost."

I ignored him and looked at Zara.

"If you want to help, then you can do so by getting better at the earliest. So just take rest and get well soon."

Argh, best friends. Such niceness!

"So how would you rate your first day after hospital?" she asked.

"Very tiring and dreadful. Honestly, I was so scared after that accident. Thank God, I survived."

I thought that would set off a tirade again, but she had a mischievous grin instead. Something was fishy. I knew that smile.

"What is going on in your naughty little head?" I asked.

"At least you got something out of that almost-accident."

"What?"

"That gorgeous hottie was way too interested in you, wasn't he?" She winked, and Armaan groaned.

I smiled at her and spoke reluctantly, "Yes, he was definitely something to look at."

"He gave you his phone number, didn't he? When are you planning on calling?" She was so excited that she almost jumped up and down on the bed.

I was about to answer when Armaan interrupted, "You aren't, are you?"

"I don't think I will be calling him."

"Why, Amrita? He was so hot and looked really into you."

"I am pretty sure he is that with every female he comes across. I just got that playboy vibe from him."

"Are you insane? He is in real estate and driving a convertible Merc. That means he is filthy rich and drop dead gorgeous. Do you know he owns the nicest places in Mumbai?"

"How do you know so much about him?" I enquired suspiciously.

"Nah, merely looked him up in our database."

I couldn't help laugh at her tenacity. "Didn't you have a ton of work today?"

"Yes, but I take breaks too, you know," she smirked.

"I am not interested in him. Seriously, I don't have the time for all of this in my life," I spoke very unconvincingly.

"What is the matter with you? You don't have time for a handsome man in your life, who, by the way, is interested in you and rich?" She knew me too well.

"Is there someone else?"

I couldn't lie to her, so I kept quiet.
