5 Just Got Lucky

After taking a light meal and a bath, Devin is now sitting in his room drying his hair with the cool breeze from the nearby window. He felt how the wind was slowly getting colder as if rain was going to pour so he decided to close the windows.

"I guess it's about time my little brother returns home from school."

Devin thought to himself, wouldn't it be pathetic if he were to ask his little brother for help just because he couldn't kill a level 1 monster in the game? After weighing in the pros and cons, he remembered his little brother mentioning a forum about the game and decided to pay a visit.

He shouted across the room and accessed his custom made, voice-controlled computer. After booting it on, he directly commanded it to search for the forum

"Google, search New Dawn Forum."

While he was listening on to some of the threads, he happened to hear out the fact that there were a couple of things that he didn't know about the game. First, there was a party system where he could share experience points with others. Next to that was one growth status point that would be given to users that they can acquire by leveling up. Another was the fact that somebody was already above level 10.

Apparently, there was a server notification for the very first players that reached that level that he missed due to him being logged out. It also seemed that another user has divulged the fact that their levels would be capped at level 9 until they get their classes by doing a related quest upon reaching that level. Similarly, after a player has reached level 10, they would get a chance to redistribute their stats to better suit the class that they please.

In addition to that, there was also the fact that there were 7 major cities each for all 13 servers. Another thing to note was the fact that he happened to stumble upon one specific thread about monsters and their loot drops.

"Wait... NO WAY...WHAT HAVE I DONE!"

Upon realizing the fact that it wasn't common to gain gold as most of the players didn't receive any gold upon playing initially, he then recognized the true meaning of the message that he got before he paid for the skill books.

"Did I just waste a ton of money?"

He involuntarily scrunched up his eyebrows upon the mere thought of what he has done. After taking in a deep breath, he recognized that the skill books must be of high value if it was placed at that exorbitant amount. After collecting himself, he finally managed to get his will to play the game back.

Just as he was about to go back inside the capsule, he heard another series of quick footsteps from the staircase quickly thinking that it must be his little brother. He smirked at the thought that his little brother was probably running to go and play the same game that he was playing earlier.

"Yow, Devin! Did you play New Dawn already? How was it? It's great, right! Some of my classmates even ditched school just to play the game!"

"Hehe, your big brother here has been playing a moment ago and was just taking a break."

"Pfft. What's with that smirk on your face? You're probably stuck at the beginning village at level 1."

"How did y-"

"What? Seriously? Bro, you suck! HAHAHAHA I've never thought that what I said was actually true."

"Sike! I'm already at level 9 and was just deciding on what class I should pick."

"Cool! Let's meet up at the main city after I reach level 10!"

"Try to catch-up, it was already crowded when I logged out earlier, it's probably more so now that kids like you are just getting home ready to play. Good luck trying to kill a level 1 Rabid Dog."

After that quick exchange, his little brother left for his capsule that their father brought home. Nervous, this time after Devin told a blatant lie to not get poked at by his little brother was now pondering about how he could use those skills with their pitifully slow cooldowns. With a sigh, Devin could only go back on the game and try giving his all.

As soon as he logged back in, he quickly took out all of the skill books from his inventory and a notification suddenly popped out in front of him.

<System detected 5 general class skill books, would you like to learn all 5 skills?>

Devin quickly pressed yes for the notification and a white light enveloped him, which quickly disappeared.

<Congratulations, you are the first player to ever obtain the Secret Art of the Golden Buddha, You have been rewarded with 5 bonus skill points, 1000 exp, and the Path of the Golden Buddha Manual.>

<Level up!>

<Level up!>

<Level up!>

<Level up!>

<Level up!>

Surprised, he thought that he must have a huge amount of luck to be able to pull this off. After he checked his status and saw that he gained five levels and saw that his skills were all at beginner stage level 1. Still conflicted about where he would distribute his stats, he decided to put it all equally in his STR and AGI for now since he can still change it as he reaches level 10.

At this time, he temporarily forgot the manual as he was quite excited to try out his newly found increase in power. Seeing his status grow, he felt the confidence to beat the Rabid Dog that he couldn't defeat last time. So, he decided to go towards the fields and try hunting them once more.

Upon exiting the inn, he started to look outside and saw that there was an even longer line towards the first NPC that gave out the starting quest. On the other hand, there were also people looking for parties on the side which he now ignored as he just needs to defeat some of them to complete the quest that the village head had given him.

In the fields, what he saw surprised him. People. There were people on every corner. There were so many people even he felt pity for the poor Rabid Dogs that were being hunted. As soon as people caught sight of them spawning a small cluster of them would surround it and instantly kill it.

"This... How am I supposed to complete my quest at this rate?"
