39 Tiny palace

Such a power sounded unique already, it's impact was almost predictable. William was ready to try it out of course, but one thing was quick to become a barricade.

Specifically, the lady in his head recited. [This purchase in question costs eight-hundred system points, undoubtedly it's the most expensive one so far.]

That alone was a problem, but it became worse once she added. [You only have six-hundred and ninety-five system points to your disposition, which is obviously insufficient for this upgrade.]

Rage would be a bad example to explain the boy's emotions; he was heavily frustrated instead. The price was extreme at this point, and could make one fear future progress itself!

Yet he still avoided complaints and asked, "Uh... are there any tasks you can give me? Dunno how else to get points here."

[Maybe you should treat the side-tasks that you've badly neglected until now?] The system pressured.

Afterwards she specified, [Find a library and read a book about the hantonic disease, two tasks would be finished just like that.]

At this point such advice felt more like a mock, but the lady fairly made a great point. To a certain degree it was stupid how he didn't finish those couple of tasks yet, he had been in the city for a month now even!

William had been focused on the neuro-shocks, so much that any other issue was strongly pushed aside through that period!

Such a decision could have harmed him greatly, because the hantonic disease was primarily linked to health, its negligence was basically a death wish! He can't transform into a snake because of the same issue, so it was truly a problem.

Yet regardless he was ready to deal with the issue now, through a firm decision even. "Gotta ask Olivia about this disease. She mentioned some healer friend who could help, I have to use that opportunity."

A moment later he thought, "Can't ask her now though, should probably ask after we talk to the governor."

Although such a decision sounded considerate, he actually tried to be more efficient instead. Either task carried rewards, and he wanted to yield the benefits out of both!

It was smart at least, and it showed a great hint too; the boy was greedy about rewards, even while under the influence of such peace and serenity!

Anyways, such aspects could be pushed aside for now. The couple of friends had quite a task on their hands for sure, but got irritated already from the looks of it!

The problem was that they had to walk a lot. This city was massive and had somewhere above half a million houses too, it wasn't easy to get around here!

"My legs hurt, guh." William already heaved out a complaint.

"Don't be a baby, we'll get there." The lady taunted.

Thankfully these friends weren't too deep in the city, but it still took them quite some effort to walk! Fik was so massive that it had ten inner walls, which split up the whole domain!

The team resided behind the fourth set of walls; it was generally a nice section and wasn't struck by over-population either, like the outer portions. Yet the area was still massive, so they spent a good couple of hours just to reach the spot they wanted!

"Finally! Let's hope that fat fuck is here, because I don't wanna walk all the way here again." William sighed.

The governors were usually near these big, gray-coated walls, since that's where most of the tension usually was. Business deals were the most prosperous in that area as well!

These couple of friends had grown tired just to reach this spot. Every street seemingly carried the same, darkened color as well so that didn't make things easier. It felt as if they barely walked at all, which surely spiked agitation!

However, now they had to enter what could be considered a personalized little palace. It was just fifty meters across, and carried a mixture of light-green and crystal-white colors.

It seemed like a king's den to a certain extent, but this spot was pretty small in comparison to what royal structures the city could actually provide.

Regardless, this fancy building was good enough. Well, at least to fit one of the many governors which these fourth set of walls held behind.

At the very entrance of this same little palance, these friends were greeted by a dark-skinned snakezoid. He was likely a guard here and was quite huge too, about seven feet tall even!

Anyway, the same man demanded. "Please state your names and business here."

"We're William and Olivia, the heroes who fixed mount triangulum." The boy instantly answered.

As a smile admittedly grew across his face, the guard followed along. "Ah, I heard about you two... but still, what's your business here?"

"We want to meet the governor and stuff," Such a sentence barely made any sense, indefinitely.

Yet the other didn't put up much of a fight, he was ready to let these couple of friends in. They were quickly guided inside by several more guards, and these men only grew by number the deeper they sunk into this small palace!

It was obvious that the figure these men protected was quite important, a member of the government couldn't be taken so lightly after all.

They were valued, even though there were a few other small palaces behind these same fourth set of walls!

Eventually they reached the end of the main hall, and thankfully had a layer of red-coated flooring to guide them as well. Otherwise they would have easily gotten lost here, there were a bunch of golden ornaments which distracted them quite a bit!

However, now they were greeted by the very figure which they sought until now. The conversation was swift to start out.

The governor gave them half a smile and asked, "What can I do for you, heroes? Why didn't you order a carriage to bring you here? The walk must have been rough."

"We might have to call one later, but right now we came to tell you something." William followed up.

The governor sat on his throne, which was apparently normal in such structures, and he faced the couple of friends after.

"I'm all ears," He answered.

The size of this same man was intimidating enough, he likely weighed about two-hundred and fifty pounds! Along with the yellow skin this snake had, the sight was surely unique.

Anyway, Olivia finally broke in the conversation as she answered. "We have a few suspicions, sir, about the attacks this city got from those blue-spines."

"What about them? Tell me what you're thinking." The big man asked, and sharpened his focus on the lady.

Although a bit nervous, the lady still pitched. "Uhh... what if, you know, there were a bunch of traitors who let the enemies in? I mean, how else could they get in the city over and over?"

"That sounds a bit rash, we can't blame our guards and soldiers just like that now, can we?" The governor pressured.

The young boy surely hated titles, so he was swift to yell against them!

Quite shamelessly he said, "Come on now! We can't blindly hope that all soldiers are nice and loyal. Plus those blue-spines are dumber than a brick, I doubt that they could trick anybody!"

The big man kept quiet afterwards, for a good half minute actually. He wanted to process the hero's words, and was seemingly under some degree of self-conflict too.

Eventually the same man said, "Even if you're right, I can't do anything from here because it's not my section of the city. You should go down to the outer walls where the actual problem is, maybe you can help there?"

Now thankfully the governor was positive about the matter, at least to a certain degree. It was good enough to be directed at least.

Yet William wasn't satisfied so he asked, "How can we butter up the governors over there? I'm sure they're gonna protect their precious little guards too."

"I've been meaning to give you this," The man on the throne cited.

Afterwards he handed over a red badge, which was made out of stone. It cited William's name and his recent deed was written on it as well. The title of a hero was the most evident.

Olivia received her own badge as well, and its use was already predictable.

The yellow snake confirmed it, "Now the governors have to work with you, nobody can ignore a hero's wish."
