5 A few golden opportunities.

"By the name of king Kantemos, stop your assault!" One man shouted.

This snake belonged in that same group of thirty who decided to join this wretched scene, yet their place in this conflict was still a strong blur.

In protest, these crazed snakes simply killed off a couple more civilians, before they charged towards the group of newcomers.

Thanks to those stunning details, it was easy to figure out that these new arrivals, weren't here to slaughter off innocent people.

For William this was more than a relief, as it was no secret that he would die if this battle continued, regardless of the number of enemies.

"I have no idea who's fighting who... but if I'm going to survive in these streets, I'm gonna need a lot more upgrades." The young man mumbled.

As for now, he wanted to use this situation to simply get the hell out of here, especially since the overall disaster did not halt; on the contrary, it advanced.

What remained of those crazed blue-spined beasts, clashed against these thirty men. Unsurprisingly, the bloodbath advanced more than ever after that horrid point.

Those several murderers had a craze-oriented charisma, which in a way gave them a bit more strength, but in this situation that wasn't enough of an aid.

In short words, these psychopaths were doomed to meet cold metal.

The thirty men who came here were beyond well-armored, and they had an equal amount of skills to match their overly-righteous attitude.

So unsurprisingly, while Willaim tried to figure out the quickest way to dash out of here, the battle had already ended.

Those blue snakes who attacked the innocent, had been slaughtered off in a matter of moments. Such results solely pointed out that the new arrivals were beyond qualified.

In one way, that was great as the prior disaster finally met with an end. But at the same time, such a flawless arsenal had forced the young man towards a wave of nervousness.

He felt beyond conflicted, simply because these powerful new arrivals could be potential enemies. And at the moment, there were little details that helped the boy think otherwise.

Eventually, one of these snakes approached the boy and stated. "I'm glad you survived the attack, citizen. But do you know from which way did those bastards come from, before they attacked?"

Considering the method of speech, William could figure out that these men were guards, most likely. They were in their human-like form as well, so such a conclusion made a bit more sense.

But in this case, he felt comfortable enough to be sassy, as he had an impression that these guards would not mindlessly kill.

Which was why he stated under a casual tone, "It's hard to know stuff like that, when some maniacs scream for my head and cut people down left and right."

"Scared weren't you?" Another one of these men intervened.

And afterwards he also weighed in, "I keep forgetting that not everyone is as tough as us army men."

"These guys are from the army?" William thought, and was intrigued by the definition.

He expected for these snakezoids to be just plain guards, regardless of what skill they portrayed in that hazardous situation, he didn't think of them as too important.

But apparently they have a useful position in this city, so right at this moment, Willaim felt tempted to use these people for information; it seemed appropriate to do so.

But nevertheless, his mouth didn't cooperate with his train of thoughts, specifically since one of these soldiers proved difficult. Now, he had an urge to push these men towards self-conflict.

Likewise he taunted, "You army men slacked around in your food holes all day, long enough to let over fifty people die here."

Such a sentence struck like a sharp dagger, and the boy sealed it off as he added. "So please calm down, tough guy, you have nothing to be proud of."

It was easy to notice that a lot of these men had been inflicted by such wordplay, well, at least the ones who heard him.

They fiddled around on their spots, and desperately wanted to do something to shut this boy up.

Yet their overly righteous senses were in conflict, they just knew that this feisty boy made too much sense.

For that same reason, the group of thirty decided to separate. They focused their attention towards the countless bodies which were littered across the street.

So in a matter of moments, most army men were occupied with a task of their own.

Most of them, apart from one snake who stood close to William this whole time. Until now, this same tall snake simply held light conversations.

Through those few minutes, this man described his title in the army, he was some type of general apparently.

He also described the achievements which the army has made so far. So with that topic considered, it was only a matter of time until William tapped into this resource of information.

The main topic was swift to shift towards the recent awful disaster, the same one which happened just a few moments ago.

"Those blue bastards attacked us for the twelfth time this month, we just don't know how they're breaking through our defenses." The army general sighed.

In a hunt for information, the young man decided to remind. "Those killers didn't sound so smart either."

"Exactly!" The general shouted.

And afterwards he recited, "If they're dumb, then how do they keep sneaking in?!"

"Their goals probably give them motivation, they want some golden fangs or something?" William finally asked.

He was beyond intrigued about such a topic. The issue of life and death had been pushed away for now, so it was the best time to be curious.

"Oh hell yeah!" The general followed along with a mild shout.

And then he pressured with that same tone, "Those morons want to strip our king Kantemos out of his golden fangs, this shit's been going on for the past seven-teen years!"

"That's a big waste of time on the enemy's part, what do those fangs do anyway?" William taunted.

He understood how indulged the other was towards such a topic, so he found it like a golden opportunity, to use their dramatic emotions to his favour.

And from the looks of it, such a plan worked more than well. The general's face curled in disgust, and what came out of his mouth after was nothing but shouts.

"Where the hell did you live your entire life? Whomever has the golden fangs, has the honour to rule all of snake kind!" The general dictated.

A moment later he added, "And the venom which comes out of those fangs, is strong enough to melt rocks and metal itself!"

Afterwards, this same man waved his arms in the air like a dramatic teenager, and added. "Legend has it that the fangs can give the wearer magical powers as well!"

"And our king has the golden fangs?" Willaim taunted once more.

"Yes!" The general shouted.

But he also felt pressured to demand, "Stop asking stupid questions!"

Regardless of how this conversation went down, William managed to reap a lot of information out of this talk. That was why he didn't mind the layer of spit, which had been dramatically sprayed across his face in the process.

But this interesting conversation did not end here, no. In fact it led towards an unpredictable path.

As a start, the general's tone shifted greatly towards a softer approach, right before he blurted out the oddest collection of words yet.

He pitched, "I saw what you did to those buffons a moment ago, so I'd like to offer you a spot in the army."

"That came out of the blue," The younger instantly joked.

But it was obvious that the other one did not get the pun. Regardless, William was ready to throw this offer to the mud.

The reasons behind such a swift decision were obvious. He simply did not want to fight in the name of some king, and he didn't want to risk his life in the army either.

But before he could have answered, the system decided to chirp a few words of her own.

She described, [A main task has just been assigned to you.]

[Your main task is to obtain and wear these so-called golden fangs,]

[Upon completion of this task, you will be rewarded with ten-thousand system points]

"Oh hell, that's a lot..." He thought.

Afterwards he gazed at the general and noticed that he patiently waited for the boy's answer. It was interesting to see an older man be so excited.

William was reward-oriented and he couldn't care less about other aspects of this situation. He wasn't given enough time to think of the ins and outs of this path, but the large rewards were enough of a motivation.

That aside, he had a sense that it would be easier to at least meet the king, if he was somehow associated with the army. It seemed inevitable to meet this figure, even if he had to rip those golden fangs out of that same man's mouth.

So finally the young snakezoid answered, "Okay, I'll join your army."

The general celebrated quite a bit after that point, his middle aged tone shook upon every word, as he welcomed the younger with a few heavy pats on the shoulder.

Necessarily, the atmosphere around here grew for the better, even though there were a bunch of bodies laid across the darkened street.

Little did this man know, William couldn't care less, either about the king, these snakes or the feud they had over those precious fangs.

On the contrary, he wanted to obtain those golden weapons and use them to his will. Sure such an idea broke the aim of survival, but the boy guessed that he would survive much longer, if he had such powerful fangs in his possession.

Likewise, it would also be tremendously convenient if he could purchase ten-thousand system points of upgrades.

So his decision was final, he didn't bat an eye-lid about it. But only fate would recite how this main task would play out. Nevertheless, he was eager to explore.
