Yuga approached Lain from behind and gave her shoulder a tap, startling her as she was deeply engrossed in her work.
"Why are you here? You just gave me a fright," Lain exclaimed, patting her chest and exhaling.
By her side, the Whimsicott and Lilligant, who were assisting her, mimicked her actions, patting their chests and exhaling.
Since Lain was Ryuuichi's adopted daughter, her Pokémon were all Grass-types. However, she wasn't a Pokémon Trainer, so she didn't have many Pokémon, only the Whimsicott and Lilligant.
Both of these Pokémon had good levels and potential, but since they didn't often battle and didn't have many training opportunities, their combat abilities and alertness were relatively low. If they had been different Pokémon focused on battles, Yuga's quiet arrival would have already raised their guard.
"I've told you before, there's no need for you to stay in the workshop all the time. It's nice to take a break occasionally," Yuga said helplessly.
Lain waved her hand nonchalantly. "No need, I like it here."
Yuga sighed; he had said this multiple times, but it had no effect. "Can't you two persuade her occasionally?" Yuga turned his gaze to the Whimsicott and Lilligant.
The Whimsicott and Lilligant both shrugged in response, shaking their heads with an expression of helplessness. Clearly, they understood their owner's temperament all too well.
Recently, Lain had discovered that she could extract a special fragrance from her Pokémon's aromatherapy, which could enhance the quality of her incense. However, extracting this fragrance was challenging, and Lain was trying to improve the efficiency of this extraction process, which made her even more absorbed in her work than usual.
"Ah..." Being overly diligent as an employee was something that worried the boss; they might work themselves to death! Yuga thought to himself, feeling like he couldn't explain this to Ryuuichi.
Yuga changed the topic, "By the way, I've taken on a significant business deal, and the clients will be coming soon to inspect the quality of our incense. Please prepare in advance."
Lain nodded indifferently; she had full confidence in the quality of the incense she created and wasn't afraid of anyone's inspection.
"Oh, and try these new incense models I've recently developed. See how they differ from the previous ones."
Lain casually pushed several small porcelain boxes of different colors in front of Yuga.
Yuga, intrigued, picked up a pink porcelain box and used his fingers to take a whiff. Inside was Rose incense. The scent of this Rose incense was even more distant and lingering than the previous version, though it was somewhat lighter, it smelled even better.
Seeing Yuga's expression, Lain knew that the new incense was a success.
Without waiting for Yuga to react, she picked up another pink box. "Try this one."
Yuga took the porcelain box and opened it; it contained Rose incense as well. Outwardly, it didn't appear any different from the previous version.
Yuga again picked up a bit and smelled it. This version had a richer scent compared to the previous one, with a Sweet Scent that gave off an enchanting feeling.
Seeing that Yuga had finished sampling it, Lain picked up the one he had just smelled. "For this version, I've added extracts with a Sweet Scent inspired by the previous one. I haven't fully tested its specific effects yet, but it won't compromise the incense's original efficacy."
Yuga's eyes lit up. "So, will this effect affect the incense's original function?"
Lain gave Yuga a sly look. "If it were to affect the incense's primary function, what would be the point of researching these? "
"Cough, cough... You're right," Yuga replied awkwardly, feeling overly excited. With these new incense variations, he had no doubt that business would thrive even more.
"What about this one?"
Yuga raised the one he was holding in his hand.
This one tastes different from the one just now, and it also tastes different from the original version. I think it was newly developed by Lain.
"The effects of the Rose incense, I've actually tested them. They enhance the training efficiency of Grass-type Pokémon by about twenty percent compared to the previous version," Lain explained.
Yuga, upon hearing this, was pleasantly surprised. "That's quite impressive! You're indeed a genius."
Lain, who was passionate about her incense research, paid no heed to Yuga's flattery. Instead, she pointed to several other boxes of incense and continued, "These are all incenses infused with extracts from Aromatherapy. Besides the changes in scent, they all have the effect of healing abnormal statuses in Pokémon."
Yuga took a look at the boxes, which included Sea Incense, Wave Incense, Rock Incense, Odd Incense, Full Incense, Luck Incense, and Lax Incense. There was one notable absence: Pure Incense.
Seeing Yuga's curiosity, Lain explained, "Pure Incense is meant for repelling Pokémon, so adding this type of fragrance doesn't make much sense."
Yuga nodded in agreement; it made sense.
Lain then pointed to several other boxes of incense that contained extracts with a Sweet Scent, saying, "These are newly developed incense variations. Their specific effects haven't been fully tested yet, so I'd appreciate your help."
Yuga patted his chest, saying confidently, "You can count on me."
With that, Yuga left Lain's workshop with the incense samples.
He took these incenses directly to the Ecopark, the best place to test the new incense's effects.
And so, the experiment to test the effects of these new incenses continued for a whole week. With a large number of Pokémon as test subjects, Yuga was able to gain a good understanding of the effects of these incenses.
Unlike the incense infused with Aromatherapy extracts, the incenses with Sweet Scent extracts didn't change the core effects of most of the incenses. In fact, they improved the effects, except for Full Incense, which had an increase in side effects.
Full Incense originally relied on the illusions generated by incense to train a Pokémon's reaction speed. However, the version with Sweet Scent extracts was so potent that it caused Pokémon to become disoriented, rendering it ineffective for training and even detrimental in some cases.
Yuga attempted to reduce the quantity of Sweet Scent extracts in Full Incense, but it was still ineffective. Even a tiny amount of the extract significantly intensified the incense's effects.
However, the remaining incenses had their effects optimized.
Lax Incense, in particular, had a calming effect on Pokémon. Even enraged Pokémon would have their emotions soothed. In specific situations, this incense's effect was exceptionally potent.
The effects of the Odd Incense were similar to those of the Rose incense, enhancing the efficiency of Psychic-type Pokémon's meditation by approximately twenty percent.
After understanding the effects of these new incenses, Yuga couldn't help but admire Lain's talent.
The process of optimizing incense with the Sweet Scent extracts and Aromatherapy extracts wasn't as simple as adding them directly. It involved complex steps, subtle changes within the incense, and adjustments in the quantity of incense materials.
