Report Card

Today is report card day. While I had little expectations for myself, as usual, things got out of hand.

"UURRGGH"

"Hye-jee, what's with the sad face? Just do better next time!"

"How optimistic of you."

What Hui-woo doesn't know is that once my mom sees my grades... Well, let's just say things are bound to get ugly.

This is the scariest day of my life.

When I walked into the house I was asked to sit in the living room next to Hye-mi and mum asked us to give her our report cards.

"Hmm..."

"Hye-mi has scored an average of 90 this time."

Hye-jee's thought: "Oh my..."

"On the other hand..."

*GULP*

"NA HYE-JEE! YOUR AVERAGE IS ONLY 60! DID YOU ACTUALLY REVISE OR NOT?!"

"AS PUNISHMENT, YOUR CHORES ARE TRIPLED!"

"What?!"

Why is it that I get twice the scolding after being compared to her?

*GRUMBLE*

And now I'm stuck cleaning the alley and lawn. Big deal, it has always been my job anyway!

"It isn't possible for me to score well in every subject. Everyone has strengths and interests."

"Besides, my dream is to become a model. Why does it matter if I score badly in maths and science? A pretty face is better!"

Not to mention, I excel in physical education and art! Fitness and aesthetics are more important to me.

"Phew, finally done with the cleaning!"

"I'm so worried. they are just so different!"

After I completed my chores, I accidentally overheard my parent's discussion about me.

"Looks like we are too easy on her, her results were terrible..."

"She is just a child! Look at how cute and energetic she is..."

Hye-jee's thought: "Go, dad!"

"A child? She is only a year younger than Hye-mi. It is because we've spoiled her too much that she has become like this!"

"How good it would be if she was half as sensible as her sister."

What mum said out of disappointment...

..pierced my heart deeply."

I am... myself!

"Ah, I just don't feel like doing anything."

I have tried working hard before! But my results were still not impressive and I'm honestly at my wit's end.

I'm better at physical education and art but not once have I been praised for it, even after being compared to her.

*Hye-mi in the shower*

"Oh dear, I forgot my towel."

"Hye-jee, could you get them for me?"

"YOU SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT IT WITH YOU WHEN YOU STEPPED INTO THE BATHROOM! TREATING ME LIKE SOME ERRAND GIRL, YOU HAG!"

It was when I stepped into my sister's room... that I noticed a present on her table.

It was from mum. Next to it was a beautiful letter.

To my beloved Hye-mi

Have you been resting well lately? Know that I have always taken pride in you and here is a little gift to reward your hard work! No matter what you face in the future, I hope you'll put your best foot forward and give your all!

Love,

Mum

P.S. Please help me take good care of Hye-jee.

This has been such a depressing day. I'm feeling terribly down.

So it is true that mum loves Hye-mi more. As long as she's around, it doesn't matter what I do...
