Chapter 4

Hybreed then carries the offerings as Gregory and Katherine watch him disappear into the woods as he runs off in superhuman speed. During the course of the day, Hybreed trains Jasper, but he often displays more and more arrogance.

Hybreed: In order to get better at controlling that urge, you have to start with not letting your mind fool you. You will become your own worst enemy,

Jasper, I promise you.

Jasper: How can I not cave in when it feels like my insides are being ripped apart? It's impossible.

Hybreed: No, it's not. You are making it impossible by letting it take you over. The first time you smell blood, you want to consume it. You have to fight that urge. Feed on the blood of wild animals.

Jasper: It's not enough. Humans provide more iron.

Hybreed: We don't harm humans unless provoked and we don't feed on them.

Jasper: When are you able to realize that I am not like you? I never will be! I'm not even a full blooded Iris.

Hybreed: You may have been turned from another, but I couldn't let you die alone.

Jasper: You are a fool for bringing me in. I am an outsider and you know it.

Hybreed: Is that how you see yourself? After all we have done for you? We've given you a home, took you in as if you were one of us and still you see yourself as an outsider.

Hybreed starts to get agitated and Jasper starts to get intimidated seeing his eyes change. Hybreed walks towards him as Jasper backs up only to fall backwards and look up at his mentor. Hybreed's eyes are now a golden yellow color, making him appear more menacing than before. Jasper holds his hand up, but Hybreed slaps it away. His breathing becomes softer as he growls.

Hybreed: Unlike you, I can turn whenever I want. I don't want to hurt you, Jasper, but my patience is running thin.

Hybreed offers his hand and Jasper takes it as he is helped to his feet and his eyes return to their normal color.

Hybreed: Now, are we ready to begin?

Jasper shakes his head and the two set off to train.
