Jel looked at Osbert talking with Val and couldn't help the smile that came on his face, before it faltered almost immediately. 

Wait a second, why am I happy about this? It is not like he is supposed to be accepted into this family or something like that. Why … why am I behaving like I am introducing my partner to my family.

You need to remember, Jel, that this is not real. It is just a formality. It is nothing you should be too serious about. 

Just as the man was thinking that, he saw Osbert looking at Barrette, looking completely awestruck, with mouth agape. Instantly, a burning sensation filled Osbert as he stared at the man beside him. 

A burning, awful feeling that filled him to the pit of his stomach. Unable to stop himself, Jel kicked Osbert on his leg, startling the man as he turned to look at Jel. 

The moment the two made eye contact, Jel suddenly realised what he did and could feel embarrassment raising up in his entire being.
