1 I-I I just died?!?

Summer 2022

Protagonist POV:

"Woah! That is a lot reports I have to fill up by 6pm, I have to really get going with this damn work or else it's gonna be the axe for me if I don't get this done. "

Now, you may be wondering, who is this freaking guy? Well, I'll promptly tell you, I am just any regular ol' guy that you can find in any normal place or city.

My name is John Miller, and yes I know, how quite original. I was was working as an part-time intern for Marketing/Advertising Company, as for why? It was mainly to just get some more work experience and it was only part time that has a decent salary, although I sometimes wonder why I should work in this position. (Sigh!) though it is very tedious and I work a 3-day 8 hour shift, it at least pays me enough to pay my rent for my medium sized apartment, bills, and some other utilities.

At 21, studying at a major university for a bachelor in business and minoring in Marketing and Philosophy, I also sometimes pondered why I spent thousands of dollars of student loans to just a get quite frankly, a stupid piece of paper to show proof of my own worth of knowledge and skill.

And why did I take philosophy classes in the first when I could've chosen something much more useful as my minor. To answer that question, I don't know. It was just something that I thought that it would be interesting to learn. To be honest, I'll admit that in that philosophy class, I learned quite a lot and I never thought I would enjoy it.

My professor was great at teaching and is clearly enthusiastic to teach the class the wonders of philosophy, I have learned how to debate, argue, and persuade other people due to this class. It was great!

As for my other classes related my major and my other minor, I just wanted to learn to be a successful businessman. That is all.

A few hours later…

(Sigh!) "Whew! Finally done with this obnoxious reports, those things are torturous! Why should we calculate how much this specific brand of pet food is going to worth based on some arbitrary surveys we did a few weeks ago determining why this brand is worth less despite the fact they're basically the same freaking thing!! Ugh! At least I am not responsible on narrowing it down based on it's age, nutrition, and health."

I closed my tabs and shut down the computer, packed my things inside my backpack and left for the night. Granted, the outside is still quite sunny as it looks more mid afternoon than early evening. Well, it due to the summer weather here. I walked out the grey, drab office building and took a brief stroll towards the bus stop.

After a swift waiting period, I went inside the bus, payed the fare and took a seat nearest to towards the bus door.

"I at least have manage find a seat that not too close to any person or a seat too faraway."

I quickly relaxed and looked around the scenery of the cityscape. Tall, Blocky buildings full of grey and glass. Stony, drab, few storey car parks that looked like an eyesore when I briefly gazed at them. Flat, dark grey pathways filled with intersecting patterns of cement and bricks. Heavily congested roads and traffic with loud honks roaring all around as if it was contest. Though here and there, there was an occasional fountain, small or medium sized trees, and bushes to break it up.

That is what I can describe the city that I lived in. A big, messy, yet boring cesspit of various types of people. What is the point of living here, when there's barely any historical buildings older than 70 years or rent prices across different apartments in the Central or inner city area steadily increasing. With that in mind, I had to basically choose to live near the outskirts of the city as it was much cheaper to rent.

The place that I live in is an 50+ years old 4-storey apartment complex built in a mixture of Brutalist and modernist architecture. It's not the most beautiful looking building nor was it too ugly, It was just an old generic modern looking building. Luckily it had been recently renovated before I moved in, at least the amenities, bathrooms and everything else was either retrofitted or somewhat new.

After nearly an hour, the bus stopped close to the place I live, I just had to take a small walk from her. I stood up, left the bus and started walking outside.

"Thank you" as I thanked the bus driver.

I walked in the sidewalks for about 5 minutes and eventually I arrived home. I went inside the apartment complex and saw the walled mailboxes, I would usually go and check what I've have inside mine, but I'm too tired. I walked towards the elevator and pressed the button and went inside, I pressed the 3rd floor while listening the boring elevator music.

The elevator door opened and I arrived to my floor. After little bit, I manage to reach the room 315. I grabbed my keys from my pockets and opened the door. I quickly closed the door and dropped my backpack in the sofa, after that I went to the kitchen, opened the fridge and grabbed leftover pizza while also grabbing my favourite drink, Mountain Dew. I reheated the pizza in the microwave and that's pretty much my dinner for tonight.

"Well, what am I going to do now?"

I pondered a bit, and looked around. I paced around the living room until I saw a remote and thought "Should I watch tv?". But I decided not to as I am not in the mood. I promptly left the living and went inside the bedroom. The medium sized bedroom was not much interesting as I only have a full sized bed, a brown bedside table I found in IKEA, an old, but still working table lamp I found in a vintage thrift store, and a brown office desk and black office chair. On top of the office desk is a computer monitor, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, a PC under my desk, and some random notebooks and a jar filled with pens and pencils.

I decided to go my computer and browse around for bit. I looked up some recipes to cook, watched some YouTube videos/tutorials, and chatted with some friends and family members.

After several minutes of browsing and idle downtime, a random pop up appeared while I was reading a wiki on aesthetics.

"Huh?! Why this annoying pop up appeared?"

Just as I started to click the exit button on this pop up, I saw bright, bold text and read it. The text states that this was a survey and aforementioned "do not exit this important survey, it will be of interest to you" after I read it I was pretty skeptical, but my curiosity took over me and on a whim I decided to enter on answering the survey.

"Well, I did it, I entered the survey! What's the worst that would happen? The only worst I could get is a virus, but at least and I hope that they didn't sneak a hack client on my computer."

As soon as I entered in the survey, I was met with some strange or unusual questions. I wondered why and swiftly thought I might be entering some random contest or thing.

[If would died today, What world would you rather reincarnate in?]

I thought for a bit and came up with 2 probable answers, Harry Potter or Tensura. As much I would like to think that Tensura would be a cool world to be born in, I rather choose a safer option and chose Harry Potter due to the fact that it's closer to modern day and I don't want get involved with that complicated world.

There were some questions like,

[If reborn to another world, what timeline to start at?] Around Marauder's era but a few younger than them.

[What type of family standing do you want to have?] Moderately wealthy and has some connections to important individuals.

[Would you like to keep your memories?] I hastily answered "YES!"

Thankfully, this was the last question and I clicked submit. Suddenly the computer screen turned a very bright light that it's flashing my eyes and next thing I heard was loud banging sound. I was then promptly knocked out and went unconscious.

(BANG!) Aughhh!!!

The next thing I know when I woke up was seeing an endless pitch blacked void.
