2 Chapter 2: Adjusting

After finishing my lunch, I decided to go back to my room and study since the Dursleys were not at home and I was free to do as I please. The Dursleys are another problem I'll have to deal with since I can't really run away from here because of my dear godfather, Sirius Black. Today is 2nd of August which means I'll have to stay here for 5 days before I can blow up Marge and run away.

Clearing my mind of such thoughts, I started reading 'A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration' and completed it after an hour and a half. I was able to discern the important points mentioned in the book which Harry had overlooked as he generally pays more attention to the practical aspects if the class. The main points mentioned in the book were -

1.When Transfiguring, it is important to make firm and decisive wand movements. Do not wiggle or twirl your wand unnecessarily, or the Transfiguration will certainly be unsuccessful.

2.Form a clear mental picture of the object you are hoping to create before attempting a Transfiguring spell.

3.Beginners should say the spell clearly. More advanced wizards do not need to say the spell aloud.

4.Incomplete Transfigurations are difficult to put right, but you must attempt to do so. Leaving the head of a rabbit on a footstool is irresponsible and dangerous. Say 'Reparifarge!' and the object or creature should return to its natural state.

5.Larger creatures are difficult to Transfigure except by skilled and powerful wizards. Know your limits.

--Transfiguration skill raised by 1 Level--

After finishing with Transfiguration, I studied year 1 and 2 coursebooks for other subjects which helped in raising my knowledge and skill to a decent level.

--Potions skill raised by 2 Levels--

--Herbology skill raised by 2 Levels--

After reading all books for year 1-2 I decided to take some rest and make my plans for the future.

1.I need to change my elective from divination to arithmancy and runes.

2.Find Room of Requirement and use it to further my spellcasting.

3.Learn Patronus Charm as quickly as possible.

4.Make some more allies who would be helpful in the war with Voldemort.

5.Explore the Chamber of secrets and render down the basilisk.

These are the more immediate plans which I need to execute and see where it goes from there.

I sat at my desk and start writing my letter to Professor McGonagall requesting a change in my electives.

Professor McGonagall,

I, Harry James Potter, would like to request a change in electives as my current elective choices do not coincide with my set goals. I would request of you to let me attend Arithmancy and Ancient Runes in place of Divination. I would also like to attend Care of Magical Creatures. My reason for the change in electives is that I would like to focus on my studies from this term, as opposed to my previous mentality of choosing easy courses to laze around. I hope you will consider and grant me my request.

Your student,

Harry J. Potter

Completing the letter, I give it to Hedwig to deliver it to Professor McGonagall as quickly as possible. Looking out of the window I realize that I have been too engrossed in my studies and failed to realize that it's dinner time.

After finishing my dinner, I decide to head out for a small walk around the house.

After the walk I had back to washroom to take a bath and head to sleep. As soon as I lay down on my bed, I receive two quests.
