5 5 The Deciphered Version

I was on my way to meet up with Flavio at the library. I was impatient to know the content of the ancient document. I started running multiple scenarios in my head.

What if it was about an antique civilization who knew how to contact with 'Jennis', or a forbidden magic spell, or even a way to create matter from nothing!! The possibilities were endless.

And as I was thinking about this, I was already near the gate. Now, the only thing coming between me and knowing the truth is this door. I stood there for a few seconds, gathered up all my courage, and opened it.

Flavio was sitting at the table, examining the manuscript at his hands. I went to his table and saluted him while bringing a chair to sit on. He looked at me shocked as if he didn't notice me coming.

I didn't give it much thought and said "So, were you able to translate a part of it ?". He looked at me surprised and said "A part of it ?", "Yea, I mean it is basically impossible to translate a whole manuscript from ages ago! " I replied not knowing what was happening inside the poor guy's mind...

✦✦✦✦

Oh no..., I mean I am used to translating documents quickly for the university, so I didn't think much about it.

But this document is really huge compared to the ones I do usually so if the university knew about this, they will demand me to translate a lot more, and then maybe they will brag about it and then a mad scientist who will be super curious, will kidnap me to run experiments on me.

I really have dug my grave this time by bringing unnecessary attention. I really hate my stupidity for doing this.

How ironic, I'm stupid enough to make silly mistakes even though I have one of the brightest brains of all time! I'm really regretting wanting to help this kid now... if only I minded my own business...

Oh, shit, I started overthinking again. Just relax and remember, act normal and maybe he won't even notice how weird this was.

After that train of emotions that lasted less than a second and felt like an eternity, I said half-jokingly "Well, I was able to do it easily since I'm already accustomed to translating large documents for the school. So I guess, I'm just built differently..."

✦✦✦✦

"WOW, so you are used to doing the impossible huh, well, I don't believe it !" I said teasingly, but suddenly his facial expressions fell off as if he heard the date of his death, his eyes were terrorized, he turned pale, his hands started trembling and his eyes became lifeless.

As I saw this, I stood up and and put my hand on him trying to find out what's wrong. But he avoided my hand as if it was that of an abusive parent.

He looked afraid, and then he started mumbling "Please, don't tell anyone...please".

I didn't know the reason for his sudden change, maybe it was because of something I said that reminded him of a traumatizing experience, or he was afraid of something or someone.

But I knew for sure that I needed to make him believe that I won't sell him out nor tell this secret.

I breathed deeply before saying "Don't worry bud, no soul shall know from me anything about this, I swear on my dead father.".

He didn't seem convinced and at all and was trying to put his work and documents in his bag to leave.

So I said, "I know you probably won't believe me that easily, and I know nothing about what you've endured until this moment, what harsh and hurtful experiences have you gone through in your life but I know that I definitely won't cause someone's dear to me any pain"

"Not after what I've done to my dad..." I said looking all sad and pitiful which made him believe my sincerity.

His face turned to that of relief, and then he returned to his cheerful state as if nothing have happened. I really can't read this guy.

"Anyway, I'm really sorry for troubling you, and thank you so much for doing this to me, a stranger,". He responded smiling "No worries man, I'm glad I was able to help you. "

After that, he gave me a really long paper, with a big title saying 'The way to contact the "Jennis" '. It was the decoded version of the manuscript.

My jaw dropped open as I read the title, my entire body started trembling, I've gotten chills, and my happiness couldn't be contained anymore.

I screamed happily "Yeeeeeees! HELL YEAH!! Thank god I took this book at the moment I felt the weird aura around him, I'll always trust my guts !!" I said jumping as high as I could, fortunately, no one was at the library at the time, or else I would have been warned severely. I felt someone's glance but when I looked around I saw no one other than me and Flavio so I let it go.

Then, I looked at Flavio and screamed happily" And you...YOU ARE A BLESSING IN DISGUISE !!" I went and hugged him while thanking him too many times, he looked undisturbed so I guess I didn't make him uncomfortable.

After calming a little bit, I continued reading. This document was mainly about a ritual to summon a 'Jenni', trap him in the body of a rabbit and force him to answer one and only one question.

But it wasn't just about that, it had a bunch of spells to use for protection if something wrong happened and some knowledge about the way to get everything necessary for the summoning.

It was a really long and difficult ritual.

I had to get the bones of a killer, a living male rabbit, a concentration of any instant-kill poison, a feather of a furious eagle (you have to take it from him alive), the leather of a newly born deer, a thousand years old stone dagger, and a bunch of other stuff.

The needed things were weird and hard to get but I had my connections so I thought I could get them if given enough time.

The ritual has to be done at the top of a mountain on a new-moon day, so I can't do the ritual until 19 days, which seemed like a reasonable time for me to get the required obje-

"This manuscript was really interesting to translate, I don't believe the whole tribe was believing in this stuff!" Flavio interrupted my thoughts by saying that playfully.

I wasn't surprised by his reaction, I mean no one would believe in such a ridiculous and convenient thing like 'magic' without proof.

I wouldn't normally want regular people to know about this since they will probably abuse this power, but Flavio seemed like a good person that won't do such a thing, plus he was really knowledgeable about old languages and that would definitely come in handy if I found another manuscript or if I wanted to understand the concept of spells.

So I decided to share with him this new world and turn his life upsidedown.

I said "Hey, do you believe in the supernatural..." while looking him in the eye and casting my one and only spell: Emotion Sharing.
