10 9. No Longer Human

I sat down near the scorched corpse, pulled out a Cloud Dagger, tore open a vein in the neck and started drinking.

"Is this going to be your thing after every assassination now?" Seraph said as I heard the sound of her dusting her uniform.

'Identifying the fauna...

Specie: Dragonborn

Extracting DNA information...

Extracted.'

I spent a few more minutes on the body until I felt that I couldn't drink it anymore.

'Kaiju, is this enough?'

'0.65 gallon. It is sufficient.'

'Alright then, display.'

'Specie: Dragonborn

Strength: 2500

Agility: 1800

Magic Affinity: Fire

Abilities: Can fly, self-healing, can breathe fire, can cast upto intermediate level fire spells.'

That sounded about right. The guy was crazy strong. Took all of my and Seraph's combined efforts to take him down, that too only after we separated him from his bodyguard by paying for a few hookers to act interested in him and take him away to their place for the night.

'Kaijufication continuing...'

When I woke up from my unconsciousness, the last things I recalled were feeling as if worms were crawling underneath my skin, screaming my lungs out in pain and getting knocked out by Seraph.

"You should have only been out of commission for a few hours, Tae," my mermaid friend massaged my head as I noticed that we were in a carriage, "but you were out for a whole day!"

It was great to have her around. She was a good friend. I smiled at her, "Thank you."

'Kaiju, status.'

'Taeyang Kim

Specie: Human (+ 10% Kaiju)

Strength: 800

Agility: 550

Physical condition: Tired

Mental condition: Good

Magic Affinity: Wind

Spells: Wind Sheath (B), Feather Steps (B), Breezy Blades (I).

Abilities: Self-healing.

Kaijufication initiated.'

An increase in strength and agility was to be expected and even a change in the Specie stat wasn't completely out of the blue, since that was inevitable if I was truly mutating. But the addition of a new stat was beyond my expectations.

"Does anything seem different about me, Sera?"

"Yeah," she brought her face a little closer, "your irises are red now. What is happening to you?"

The worry was written all over her face. " I myself understand it only a little, Sera. I kinda know why it's happening, but I also know that I'm obligated to keep doing what's causing it. I owe it to my country."

"No you don't, stupid. But well, I'll lecture you later. Just close your eyes and sleep for now. We'll be back home in 2-3 hours."

When I opened my eyes next, I was back at our room in Wingbeat City. Seraph was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps she was out to give a report about our mission to Melvin.

I walked up to a mirror, my guild uniform was torn in places, but all my wounds had already healed. My irises were indeed red now, although my pupils remained black.

What else would change by the time my 10 yrs here were done? Would I even look human anymore?

Even though I'd love nothing more than to give my life for my country, it was obvious now that once I returned, I'd become a lab rat for the scientists. Was I really willing to go that far and live such a life out of patriotism?
