'Every change in me really is being recorded. Nice.'

It was morning and time to go meet up with Melvin.

"You ready, Seraph?"

"Just a moment...yes!"

This time Seraph chose to wear an emerald green vest, and a white skirt. Her long black hair was tied up in a knot while a thin necklace nestled against her collarbone.

She looked up at me with those pale pink eyes, "Your jaw's on the floor. Better pick it up."

The woman was beautiful and she knew it.

We had bought ourselves some new clothes by selling my gun as an ancient artifact long lost to time. Some dumb beastmen bought into Seraph's made up story of how we uncovered it from the ruins to the north of the continent and we sold it for a good sum.

There was no other choice since we needed money to pay the innkeeper, and for food. It was good that we made enough to get ourselves some clothes too.

"Why black?" She asked me as we walked out of the town.

She referred to the black leather vest I had on.

"Black is kind of my thing. Plus it goes well with these blue cotton pants I'm wearing. "

The meet with Melvin didn't take long. He handed me two thin books, two sets of uniform and a pair of daggers then turned to Seraph, "So, what's your decision?"

"I'll join. But will I really be able to find my mother?"

"Oh you will, kid. There's no information in Baldur we can't get our hands on eventually. And take this."

He handed her two sets of uniform too and a thick book, "Fire is usually a very area of effect magic, in this you'll learn how to control that to use it for assassination purposes."

Then he turned to me, "Don't lose the daggers, young man. These are Cloud Daggers. Very expensive magical weapons, and for a good reason. Quite a few wind spells need a weapon to cast them. So keep them safe. Now off you both go, and here, this is a pouch full of copper coins. Get yourself a map of the continent and a compass, since you'll be travelling a lot soon, and also a mechanical messenger bird."

We did as he told and soon returned to the inn. There was nothing mechanical about the mechanical messenger bird except that it was made of metal. And some sacred metal at that, according to Seraph.

It operated by pouring one's mana into it and telling it the location it had to go or the person it had to go to. The mana crystal within its body along with the countless spells engraved within the body did the rest.

Just as she was going through the spellbook she got, I looked up from one of mine and asked, "Hey, I've been thinking. Why is it that an assassination guild is allowed to recruit so openly in the public? Don't they have a lot of enemies?"

"It's all because of the previous king," she pushed her book away and stretched her arms, "in order to avoid any large scale wars within the continent he removed his own royal army, and banned the possession of an army of any kind throughout his kingdom.

Which is why an assassination guild is allowed to exist and isn't interfered with, because the nobles and royalty still need someone to get their dirty deeds done."

The previous king sure might have been pretty powerful then, to not need an army. Same could be said about the current since he hasn't abolished that ban.

I looked back at the page I was on. After reading through a lot of explanation on magic in general and then wind magic specifically, I had finally arrived at the spells' section.

Feather Steps. A basic spell meant for increased speed, dodging and moving around the enemy.
