19 18. Fully Kaiju

A bearded old man sat by my bedside, dressed in a long robe adorned with gold, and stopped crushing herbs into a small bowl just as he noticed that I was awake.

"I've never seen a body more damaged that wasn't dead, kid," he said.

It was then I noticed that I was in an unfamiliar room. It was painted white, but the curtains, and the pillars were of gold colour. There were many other beds beside mine, but only one other except mine was occupied. And lying in it unconscious with multiple fractures and dressed wounds, plus being attended to by a woman in white, was Seraph.

"How long was I out?" I turned to look back at the old man who was now spreading the paste of crushed herbs across my bare chest.

"A week, kid. A week. And it's been six days since Lord Gadarla has been asking to see you both for another match. I've never seen him so excited..." he paused, "sadly we couldn't regenerate your post half arm. Even your own healing abilities didn't seem to help with it."

It was then that I noticed my own state. My left arm was still missing half of it. It stopped right before where the elbow should have been. Perhaps Gadarla's saliva had some curse effects that prevented any form of healing and regeneration.

But I was distracted by something else. Black lines ran across my arms... forming two concentric circles and vertical lines emerging from those circles. And on the sides of my neck were wide gills, plus my skin tone was now brown. And as I would learn soon, there was a symbol on my forehead. A symbol that looked oddly like an eye.

Even the scales on my body felt harder, nothing changed about the demonic mouth on my right palm and the horn stubs on my head though.

It was a few hours later that Seraph finally gained consciousness. And the old man went over to her side and fed her a potion to increase the healing speed of her own body.

Apparently he was the imperial doctor, which he told me after making sure that Seraph was feeling okay. Well, it was obvious from the setting itself, but I didn't say anything.

After a day more of rest, we were allowed to leave but not without a scroll that listed the strict diet we were follow for the next 15 days without fail.

Although we would have loved to return home right away, we first needed to pay our respects to the King and thank him for taking such good care of us. That was not all though, there was something else I wanted to talk about.
