15 14. An Unexpected Guest

On waking up I found myself back at our new home and Seraph at the bedside, looking at me with her eyebrows furrowed.

"I'm guessing we took down the Sentry then?" I managed weakly.

"That's none of your concern now, but yes we did. What happened to you? It almost looked like you were possessed by something."

I didn't understand what happened much myself, except that I should have asked the System what Berserker Mode was before trying it out. Well although now I had an idea of what it was, but they were merely guesses.

'System, what is Berserker Mode?'

[ Berserker Mode: An ability that unlocks the full power and capabilities of the user for a temporary period. Side effects include losing control of oneself and one's decision making capabilities for as long as the ability is in use. Prolonged usage can lead to falling unconscious, coma or severe damage to brain cells. ]

Guess I was lucky to get away with facing just the first option of prolonged usage.

Plus the Berserker Mode sounded a lot like what the Berserk Sentries probably experienced.

No sooner after I had recovered from exhausting myself to such an extent, an unexpected guest arrived.

"Melvin?"

The man looked the same as ever, with his cropped charcoal black hair, blue eyes, the reddish brown skintone and the long black cloak.

His expression was grim, "You made quite the spectacle two days with the day you dominated the Sentry."

I had a terrible feeling about this.

"What are you really, Taeyang Kim? Your body's appearance keeps changing over time," his eyes narrowed, "and the kind of abilities you used recently have never been seen before."

You don't get selected for a mission like this without being someone who can predict and prepare for events like these.

I let out a sigh, "I've never wanted to tell this to anyone. Even Seraph here didn't know the truth until recently." I slowly looked up into his eyes, "The truth is, Melvin, that I'm a Kaiju. A creature that begins its life looking almost nothing different from a human, but the more it battles and feeds on its prey, the more it evolves into its true form."

His eyes said it clearly, he was a little surprised at what I had just said but he was also skeptical of it.

"I understand it doesn't make sense. But my people are a very reclusive tribe. The first of us, the elders tell, were born from the blood shed by a dying Sentry long ago. Thankfully we can mate, so our tribe had lived on, and I was the first to venture out of our habitat. It's a mission, Melvin, to see what the outside world is like, learn about it and report back to the elders."

Even this wouldn't be enough for someone as intelligent as Melvin, but it would suffice for now, since there was no other possibility in the eyes of someone who didn't know about the existence of a different dimension.

The Mer folk had kept the appearance of objects and sometimes corpses from our world a secret. If anyone knew of it, they would consider their island cursed and would stop trading with them. They only ate the humans, the other species were welcome to trade.

Although none were allowed to step foot on their land, and with three Sentries guarding the island, none dared to.
